Xfire is correct but steam isn't. On steam, the hours have reset numerous times and they weren't even counted for a long time.

but my pc is always on and gmod is always on in the background as if it was irc or something

I am not sure any more, actually here's the story, my first G.mod was pirated and I played it about for a year and a half, the PC died and I later on I got the G.mod from STEAM some time in 2009, later on in 2010 there was a fucking update that fucked up my G.mod and didn't worked at all (with orange box or without, same shit) the play time and everything was reset. After couple of months the shit worked fine again and since then I have 98h play time. Also now I have a problem with it again (history repeats itself) the textures don't line up properly on vehicles and the script is fucked up too... so I am really happy about it, that's why I don't even bother log in that much. I noticed there were lots of updates lately so I hope all that shit is fixed now...
