I grew up with Garry's Mod... God damn 12 years past... However GM never die. I meet many friends there. :)
I've played Gmod for 5 years since 2012 I guess and if Gmod will move towards on the way it's now moving, it will be as bad as it now. Workshop that flooded in the garbage of riging, model porting and dupes. And these updates that break addons every time. I remember that time when expression 2 was a thing and a lot of people making amazing creations, when you make a little simple plane or car, and everybody say something like "Whaaa, how did you do this, it is amazing!!", and that people that call "Minge" doing some weird stuff, uhhh that time was great :cat:
play on better servers then. If you're getting called a minge because you build simple vehicles you're playing with toxic people. My total E2 knowledge level is arithmatic and if statements, yet I dont have that problem. The peeps on Cre8ive are nice folk and dont have any E2 elitism. Hell, I got a compliment on a WIP i was driving around by Jackpody not too long ago.
Hopefully has a better audio codec
Can't wait for VR! Hopefully there's Vive support!
I personally think the gmod currently on the store will be taken over by people who are late and veterans (like currently happens on CS 1.6 where you only see veterans and brazilians/russians). I really do believe Garry and the team are working on a new gmod with hopefully a better engine (Source 2?). Hopefully it will still have GLua :)

In my opinion, i think gmod should be written in java and feature mining, hunger games servers and weird attacking npc's called 'creepers'.
In my opinion, i think gmod should be written in java and feature mining, hunger games servers and weird attacking npc's called 'creepers'.
I think it should be written in Rust with a Vulkan rendering backend and Bullet physics.
A younger audience will enter the game, and the quality of the servers / content will go downhill, just as it has in the years following 2010, and 2015. As long as there are Steamsales for Garry's Mod, there will usually be a playerbase, because as a poster above mentioned, it is whatever you want it to be. Just as we've seen young Gmod tycoons find ways to capitalize on gamemodes by offering 'packages', 'perks' and weapons to donators, I'm sure we'll see more exploits in that regard, more creative ways to capitalize on players. I saw a server not too long ago using advertisements, and you had to select an option citing you had looked at the advertisement in order to resume playing. The server offered an advertisement to get free-health as well.
According to Steam Charts the player base has proven to be balanced for the past two years after the Gmod 13 incline. Unless a new major update is introduced or a lucky trends pops out of the blue it's likely not to increase by any significant value and is bound to (slowly, given the nature of our community) drop over time
Kids arent kids forever
Just curious to hear opinions, what do you guys think Gmod will look like in 5 years?
More downtown edits
Probably the only major thing changed would be GMod 12 tools brought back and minor gm_construct edits, though I doubt even that will happen.
It's kinda funny how it's been like 12 years since the game was first released and there are still no any games even close to GMod in it's originality and its epic [sp]toxic[/sp] community.
Highly doubtful for the Garry's Mod devs to learn a new engine if its ever coming out it will be running on source 2 maybe.
The devs are working on their own map editor for unreal 4, so it's more likely that the sequel will be in UE4 Source: https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1550950&p=51788762&viewfull=1#post51788762
i definatley would buy a new gmod, it just wasted so much time in this game and it was a part of my life. i dont care about the graphics or different gamemodes other than sandbox. all i want is: -bigger maps and a better way to make them. -a working physics engine, not that the one right now is shit. but many important things arent working as intended. -revolutionary community made additions like wiremod, acf and phx many years ago. gmod is the only game that allows simple and complex stuff. there will be no other game that can do this. except a future version of gmod made the by the same smart community that made this one succeed.
I just wanna fly planes made from ductape, dreams, and cardboard in something that's not a tiny "Is this even a mile^3?" box.
I really don't like this new switch to a new engine. I just want it to be on source. I'm to use to it.
I really don't like this new switch to a new engine. I just want it to be on source. I'm to use to it.
The devs are really doing their damnest to make it as similar physics-wise to source (airstrafing, drag, etc) Don't worry.
