Thanks for spotting that. It's been fixed.
Hey adam, have you ever considered releasing this open source? I think this system would be perfect for another game that I am thinking of, and I would love to port it over (giving original credit to you, of course).
Is there an optimal size for images so they look nice while browsing? Similar to Script fodders 920x260 for the header image.
Thought I'd share some traffic stats! Summer holidays affect week day visitors a lot more than I expected. (The peaks are generally weekends, troughs are week days)
I've added a forum to the site (https://forums.garrysmods.org) which is running Vanilla. It has some nice features like not having to sign in again (separately from the main site) and embedded comments like Disqus built in, so that has been replaced. I'll probably get around to theming it a little better shortly.
I've just redesigned the site which will hopefully be to more people's tastes (a sprinkling of pink instead of it being in your face) and generally improved usability by making better use of screen space. I also made the site mobile friendly a few weeks ago (even though under 10% of traffic is mobile for obvious reasons). [t]http://i.imgur.com/RB0zzGi.png[/t]
so is installing addons from here the same as installing addons before workshop?
[t]http://rp.braxnet.org/scr/1450843592512.png[/t] you should probably update the dark skin too

I can't download anything because for some reason it says something went wrong when I tried to sign in with steam. The sad part is I haven't really played gmod in years and I thought this would get me playing it again but I guess that isn't going to happen tonight.

In the meantime, could you try logging in again please and let me know if you still have issues?
The comments are displaying a "Comment as..." button that redirects me to the steam login page, even though I'm already logged in

Hosting a DOOM giveaway!
So it looks like somebody decided to abuse the site and scrape terrabytes worth of data, causing my AWS bill to be 10 times higher than usual. Here's the usage for April, which came to around $115. And here's the usage for May, which came to $1135. I'm using CloudFlare in front of S3 and that doesn't report the ridiculously high usage, and neither does Google Analytics, so I'm guessing someone got the original S3 IP address and did some scraping. What's weird is that from what I can calculate, I'm only hosting 298GB of files which means the files were purposefully downloaded multiple times. Also before somebody calls upon the relevancy of the site and says 'just shut it down': The amount the site makes from ads doesn't cover the cost of this by far.
What the hell? That's pretty upsetting. Any idea if they're still at it? I'm trying to comprehend what combination of fuckboyism / incompetence / malicious intent would cause that. They managed to pull down more data from you than I did from downloading all the addons from the workshop, so I guess they can have a gold star for that.
I don't know entirely what aws is like but can't you set rules so traffic has to go through cloudflare? My Web server drops all traffic which is direct
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll get all traffic not from CF blocked.
Well it was good while it lasted, but surprise surprise, the gmod community can't be trusted with the internet. For the 3rd time somebody has abused the site and used way too much bandwidth, costing me more than the site makes from ad revenue. Thanks for that, again. The site is down. The database and the files are safe but you can't have them unfortunately because it'll cost me to let you download them. There's 360GB worth of it. I'll see if I can find somewhere cheap to host it. Garry can provide access to the original site files (if you ask him nicely, maybe) and I'll provide my database upon request, minus user data because fuck that.

btw this post is what garrysmods.org now forwards to, in case anyone is confused by our Indonesian friend here. Or why there are over 100 guests browsing this thread right now.
I really support that idea. Sometimes I visit the site and download and fix up very old stuff I used to mess with as a kid, like PCMod or EasyEngine and it'd be a real shame to just not be able to download files anymore.
Yeah, half the maps I've downloaded for my TTT server have been from this site.

Is that true?

There's ~360GB stored and 5TB of traffic was used on just Friday. The 13th. Unlucky for some eh. The reason I know it's malicious is that if it were real traffic I'd see an increase in ad revenue to match the increased bandwidth used.

Should solve your problem with minimal moderation required, and it shouldn't disrupt normal users.

EDIT: would it be feasible to implement a downloads - per - month or bandwidth cap to users? Something somewhat high for a normal user but low enough to shit on someone using it as a file host? edit2: And have a flag like thing if someone hits that cap quickly or whatever so you could look into their account or take other actions.
