Exho, send me your PayPal and I'll send you $5 so you can buy a TF2 hat you'll never use
Woah, I almost forgot that I have a dumping ground of original downloaded .zips in a folder that I collected from garrysmod.org in 2009-2011. Who should I send them to that would responsibly reupload them to the new site? It's about 200-ish addons. 3gb of mostly maps, models and other filming assets. I can probably identify some of the authors, too.
It looks like https://garrysmods.org/profile/1 is uploading stuff from the old site.
You can choose to upload as garrysmod.org when doing uploads
I might be misunderstanding what someone said in the thread but are you capable of uploading content from the old garrysmod website in some way or are you saying that people are ALLOWED to upload old content to the website?

[editline]29th March 2015[/editline]
In roughly 1 week, about 1800 people have signed up to the site :)
And another 800 since you posted this!
You should add something in the rules telling people they can upload old addons as the garrysmod.org user if they don't have permission.
Are people supposed to be able to download without owning gmod? I ask because this guy appears to have downloaded stuff, yet he doesn't seem to own gmod.
Just uploaded my copy of Kitty0706's Bowling map, complete with the original readme file! https://garrysmods.org/download/109/map-from-heavy-goes-bowling
You should add something in the rules telling people they can upload old addons as the garrysmod.org user if they don't have permission.
Done this. I mean yeah there's the issue of files being re-uploaded to other sites for people who haven't bought the game or whatever, but a lot of the content can be used in other games too anyway.
I was going to block external url's linking to the workshop but then forgot to.
I hope it's not a problem when we are redirecting to workshop now, as it is quite handy for addons that are updated often.

Ok, I will change it for mine later then. Will be a way to upload .gma files, so they are converted to and downloaded as zip files?
Ok, I will change it for mine later then. Will be a way to upload .gma files, so they are converted to and downloaded as zip files?
That'd be useful, will look into it. [editline]30th March 2015[/editline] Great news, garry has given me access to download all the old files from S3. There's so much stuff it'll take some time before I can get them all uploaded. They'll all be without descriptions or author crediting but WILL have images! :) I'll try to remove as many duplicates/old versions of uploads in the process.
Wait, whats S3? What does this mean?
Wait, whats S3? What does this mean?
Amazon S3. The place all the old files were hosted.
So you now have access to all the files that were originally on the site??

Thought I'd share some nostalgia from the earliest days of garrysmod.org. The files for these don't exist but the images still do. [t]http://i.imgur.com/XRlbUHe.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/zY3SkOt.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/OpVs2jQ.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/L9LpXPB.jpg[/t] This is the oldest available file: https://garrysmods.org/download/112/facepunch-playermodel The last upload before the site went down is nothing special unfortunately.
Could you make a 'special category' for old addons? (talking about addons that use old lua code) So we don't have to navigate through old broken addons to find a working one. (It would be a nice touch if you could implement the old theme for that category, if you're going to do it.)

I've always wondered
How big are they combined? I've always wondered
I left it calculating for a few hours at work and it hadn't finished so I'll post when I've got everything downloaded.
Amazon S3. The place all the old files were hosted.
I thought all files and backups had been accidentally deleted in December? If they had a backup available, why didn't they just say so?
I thought all files and backups had been accidentally deleted in December? If they had a backup available, why didn't they just say so?
The database is gone, but the files are intact.
The database is gone, but the files are intact.
Would you like help? I think a few people, myself included, would be willing to help you go through all of the addons to organize them.
Why would you want to upload broken addons anyway?
A lot of them have unique models that would've been lost otherwise. Plus broken scripts are always fun to fix
imo, you should have a separate section for old garrysmod.org files, so they aren't mixed in with the new and working stuff.
I CAN GET THE FILES I'VE BEEN NEEDING AGAIN YAA :D
imo, you should have a separate section for old garrysmod.org files, so they aren't mixed in with the new and working stuff.
Just tag them as not working?
