That update works fine, there is one thing that needs changing though. The generators are constantly on, but there is no notification of them working. Their UI is always red. It would be neat if the UI would turn green when they are operational, so people know when things are working.
UI is green when operational

I recently updated the SVN, try updating.
Crossing my fingers for some kind of Carl Sagan reference in your gamemode.
I may have to start playing GMod more so I can mess with this. I got into GMod too late to have experienced the original Space Build, and the current ones are WAAAY to complicated. This looks a lot simpler and more fun.
The simplicity of this gamemode is great, but there needs to be more IMO. There's not much to do at the moment. Build ships, explore, and colonize. That's it. Here's a couple of ideas: Add something like the atmospheric probe from SB, and add Wiremod support. I don't know if Wiremod support would be possible, but it would probably be a necessity for atmospheric probes.
I've never used wire, so I can't do wiremod support. I can however make a probe, but yeah, communication would be difficult. I was thinking an economy system. You can press F2 or something while looking at a container and it would 'sell' all the resources, giving you credits. Credits can be used to buy stuff. You get some credits to start with and can spend it on some basic life support on Earth. Props probably won't cost anything but cosmos ents would. You can make money factories with a lot of generators and containers. It also enforces recycling - if you lose a part in space, you should go and retrieve it, as it's worth cash. This would also give birth to non-life support generators; for example, mining. You could use a probe (ahh) to determine if a planet is mineable (mineable would be a random flag), and if it is, you can set up a Surface Extractor or a Core Extractor - core > surface in terms of output and energy input. The would generate, I don't know, Dolomite, and Dolomite can be sold for quite a bit. That's just an example. This offers a reward to colonize a planet and stick with it, or to have different things to actually do to all the planets. Maybe automatic alien NPCs that when killed give credits? Or perhaps weaponry. I was toying this over in my head if I wanted to do this or not - it can be quite the griefing tool. But if there's economy, the problem won't happen, and people will spawn them for ships. The bomb ent is an example of something they'd be like - more ship damaging than player damaging. Players should be in a space fight with another ship, get hit by this bomb, and have their ship shredded to pieces while they hang on to the distributors and hope the links don't break, while they find themselves exposed to vacuum. THAT's my goal with weapons. Speaking of which, damage to parts. The cosmos entities are, at the moment, invulnerable. There should be some way they get damage and explode, automatically. The gamemode's still very early in development - I'm not releasing too soon until I know it's a fun and enjoyable gamemode for everyone.
I love the idea of mining, and an economy system. I also like the idea of space combat. The bomb that is in the SVN at the moment creates an awesome effect once thrown at a spacecraft. Watching all of the parts float away from eachother as the pilot struggles to keep everything running is quite amusing. A suggestion for mining: Mining resources on a planet should return the most resources, but it would also be cool if there was an option to mine asteroids in space with an extractor laser or somthing. A bit like EVE Online I guess. This could be a last resort if a planet's resources ran out or if the player would just perfer to stay in space. A suggestion for damage to ents: Damage is a great idea. A simple health system would work great for pretty much all of the ents. But specifically, I think that the fusion reactor should have a temperature meter that when the reactor runs out of coolant, slowly starts to rise and ultimately explodes or creates an area that is hazardous to players for an ammount of time. Rather than it just shutting down when it loses coolant.
Quick question: How do resource terminals work? I can't seem to make them do anything.
Get a container with stuff in it. Spawn a terminal. Link the terminal to the container. Spawn an empty container. Spawn a terminal. Link them together. Link the two terminals together. Press E on one of them to transfer resources from one container to another.
OK, resource selling is a go on my PC right now, haven't committed as I want to get generator/dispenser/whatnot prices ready to roll. Exchange rates: 1000 Oxygen = 4 credits 1000 Coolant = 4 credits 1000 Energy = 2 credits
I like the rates there. One thing that I think you should take into consideration is the price of scrubbers. I think that they should be pretty expencive. It would also be pretty cool if you could sell the generators/dispensers etc for around 75% of the buying price. [editline]3rd April 2011[/editline] I also found a few bugs: You can survive in space in a jeep, the mass tool crashes the server if 5 props are welded together with a mass value of 0.
Effect WIP
If it isn't too much, you should add a second, vertical ring to the explosion, considering that in space, you'd be upside down etc. Just my two cents, it's fine the way it is, I'm just saying for aesthetic reasons, the second ring would be nice.
I would think more of a sphere would be best Going to try the particle editor later, wish me luck
Hmm, what happens to the generators when you leave? Do they just go away, along with the money you spent on them?
At the moment they just stay there, will be refunded along with after a while after disconnect and on remove
I love what you have so far, keeping going at it! <3 I'm reinstalling Gmod as I write this, in hopes that I can give this gamemode a test
Looking forward to testing this out. Dusting off my dedicated server files for this :P
How are those particle effects comming along? I'm really looking forward to seeing the updated version.
I'll try switching my spacebuild server over to this, seeing as there aren't many people playing on it anyway.
How are those particle effects comming along? I'm really looking forward to seeing the updated version.
Pretty bad right now, I'm a particle editor novice. Coming along though. Also, ace, what's the IP? I wanna play :smug:
The server's hosted in europe (Sweden to be exact), 88.206.150.92:28016. Right now it's running sb_twinsuns_fixed although it also has sb_forlorn_sb3_r2l and sb_gooniverse.
Let's just say that I'm not the best at the particle editor. Leaving it as is for now :v: [editline]6th April 2011[/editline] 75% is now refunded upon entity removal.
Quick report. The Resource Dispencer no longer spawns for some reason, As dose the admin Bomb ent. If people buy ents from the normal entities tab, they will not recieve a refund if they remove them. All entities other than Cosmic ents are blocked. (Not sure if this is intentional)
Fixed them all.
Just found another issue. You can duplicate ents without being charged for them.
