So I'm kind of considering removing everything and starting over with a new codebase.
I think that would be best. Gives you a chance to branch out as well. Try to implement things never tried before.

then again I don't even RP on GMod anymore. I don't know I'm really really torn. I have things that I want to try like animations loaded from BVH, streamed models and textures, more immersion.
Dunno I guess I need motivation, something money can't give you.

Then try something different that isn't RP? Maybe something akin to Trouble in Terrorist Town except instead of actively going around trying to kill opposing or threat-seeming players, it's objective-based and players want to put on appearances of something or another. Then again, that'd probably have the objectives being camped unless there was some unmarked, random element to it.
Whatever the case, if you've given up on RP like you said you did, then try something out of the box; something out of your mind that uses what you want to use. Of course, these are just ideas, it's not like we're trying to chain-and-anchor you to coding if you're that exhausted.

money is everything. if money isn't motivation then it can get you motivation.
Imo, your mistake with tiramisu in general is that you assume people actually rp. they don't, they want the script to do every last thing, with a little bit of moving room like /me's and shit. openaura is popular because it has stats and simple clothing etc. anything that requires more than a click of a button is considered by your average gmodder to be a pain in the ass. don't make anything over complicated, simple, easy, script controlled.
I think you should start with a new codebase, the more you know your script the more you can do with it. Also more to stand behind, it's all your style, you can do everything the way you want.
Also, leaving the RP scene would be cool, something more RPGish, not really rp but local voice and stuff to give immersion. That's what I like, and a lot of others( Take a look at Experiment/phase four/whatever, i think that sort of stuff is fun, Risk for Reward )
The guy above me says "something like ttt". No!, make something original, or remake something less-popular and have yours be popular(try anyway). If you can't think of anything, then don't make anything, the best ideas will come to YOU. Whether it be finding them, hearing about them, or just thinking of them. That's where you get motivation, your own ideas. not others.

How can you even say that when everything on Tiramisu works by right clicking? I mean simplicity is not the problem, this is literally one of the simplest RP gamemodes there is to modify in game. The problem is that the general RP community or at least, what is left, is generally very stupid. I mean, stupid. They really don't know what's best for them, what's going on, what even RP is. They're better off without me it seems, cause I don't want to adapt to them.
If I do consider quitting Tiramisu for good I'd go for doing actual games though, so it ain't all that bad.

It's not like I was telling him to do it, it was just a suggestion based off of something that already exists. Kind of like how all RP is now usually based off of something or another, whether script-wise or setting-wise. And I couldn't really think of something original yet allowing for immersion myself. But in any situation, it's all down to Big Bang and his fellow coders.
Why don't you make a base gamemode? I'm an RPer (well not RPing these days due to the lack of RP in "RP" servers) but I'm a coder too. Instead of making RP gamemodes why don't you make a base gamemode with stuff like your animations system and other interesting ideas for coders?

If I do finish making the BVH animation based system I would most definitely ask Garry for it to be included by default, it'd make things SO much easier. Animations would be able to be created on an outside program, then streamed to clients and ran like a regular animation.
Also I can genuinely say nowadays that Kuro has caused the community to stagnate, without any regrets. There are no RP gamemode developers out there other than the DarkRP guy and him, considering I'm pretty much gone. The golden age is over, really.

Need a sad rating.
I disagree, however if you believe that's the case why are you stating that rather than trying to improve the RP community? People use DarkRP or OpenAura because of the ease of setup and use, even though I'm part of CloudSixteen I love parts of Tiramisu that have been the source of inspiration for things in Clockwork.

I already blew years of work trying to get RP fixed when I simply do not enjoy it, in fact, I hate most of it. All while you and the company you represent has gotten rich out of it.
Too much work too little satisfaction. You can keep it honestly, that crappy GMod RP community. You made it what it is now anyway.
I don't think it's ruined because if us, players are the majority of the problem. We've not gotten rich out of it, we've gotten paid for our work which it was your choice to make Tiramisu free although I'm unsure if you took donations or not because I haven't always followed it. I haven't always been part of C16 and for a long time I was completely against it and it's changed a lot. What's stopping you from getting a reward for more quality schemas on Tiramisu?

Simple. If I leave as the one dude who refused to monetize on something I consider to be fucking ridiculous and sold in an absolutely asinine fashion. I consider charging for the work not nearly as satisfying as seeing somebody playing it. Nobody's playing it though because of the ridiculous business practices of old and new C16 has made people demonize every other script. I want my script to be stolen, defaced, to be modified beyond recognition without me even knowing about it. Because that's what I did for Cakescript, and that's what would keep the spark of the GMod gamemode developer community alive.
Besides, if I were to leave right now, everything I would and would have said or done would be considered saintly while everything you, Kuro or C16 does would be considered bullshit and intentionally ominous just because you have brought yourself that reputation henceforth affecting my own. Like Pontius Pilate, I wash my hands clean off whatever you may lead the "community" to, not my problem anymore.
I'm off to make some actual games.
It's your choice obviously, although there wasn't a need to reply like I was dumbing down your option or creation. Infact I was supporting it in hope you'd continue rather than telling you to quit.

The most of those comments were pretty much venting or just a way to get my thread locked.
My time is up. It's time for somebody else to step up, I guess.

I love this. I'd love to wake up one morning to see someone had hacked the shit out of Tiramisu to make something even cooler.
golden age of gmod roleplay ended in 2007, should stop trying and stop living in a fantasy world
golden age of gmod roleplay ended in 2007, should stop trying and stop living in a fantasy world
Rather than just giving up as soon as shit starts happening, why not take a stance and try and do something to improve the situation? If you've stopped caring about the community altogether, then fine, leave it in its misery. But if you still enjoy roleplaying, and you'd like to see the GMod RP community thrive once more, then instead of complaining about how bad things are, do something about it.
I'd rather make an RP engine, tbh.
I'd rather make an RP engine, tbh.
That would be cool.

There's something about charging and DRM especially which I think skeeves me and Fnox out. I learned how to program from hacking around on Garrys Mod, and moved up to standalone applications and other languages and such now. I feel like by releasing our work to the public we help facilitate that to continue.
I can't believe it took me this long to find a gamemode looking this good. February? Geez! I believe I've been missing out. I'm really excited to put this on my server tonight.
I noticed that a keyword throughout this thread is featured, although after reading the OP I was left wondering just how featured. Is there a chance that a list could be added to the OP with said features?
May you and Fnox see continued success in your gamemode!

Well I've said many times before that everyone is entitled to their opinion on the way we do things, if that's the way you felt and how you wanted to do it then I hope it's benefitted the community in the way you wanted it to when you first set out to make Tiramisu.
Someone should make up his mind, and make a damn srsrp gamemode.
If no one can, then just prepare to say au revoir to the community.

so if no one can make another roleplay gamemode the community will die? your logic makes my insides tickle

I agree with you.
Since you quit to make actual games, what will happen to the animation system? Please don't screw that, it's gonna be insanely usefull.
Hey there. I need some help with this gamemode. So, I created a couple of factions, but I have two questions.
1- Is there any way to make it so that the character has to pick a faction right after getting past the character creation screen?
2- How can I make clothing items? I never understood that.

Clothing is extremely easy, as you can see from this example here
[lua]ITEM.Name = "Complex #99 Jumpsuit"
ITEM.Class = "clothing_c99"
ITEM.Description = "Fixing the environment and shit."
ITEM.Model = "models/humans/group01/male_03.mdl"
ITEM.FemaleModel = "models/humans/group01/female_03.mdl"
ITEM.Purchaseable = false
ITEM.Price = 0
ITEM.ItemGroup = 2
ITEM.Unusable = true
ITEM.Flags = {
"nogloves"
}
function ITEM:Drop(ply)
end
function ITEM:Pickup(ply)
self:Remove()
end
function ITEM:UseItem(ply)
end
[/lua]
Where you've got your regular
[lua]ITEM.Name = "Complex #99 Jumpsuit"
ITEM.Class = "clothing_c99"
ITEM.Description = "Fixing the environment and shit."[/lua]
where it sets the Name, Class and Description you then have
[lua]
ITEM.Model = "models/humans/group01/male_03.mdl"
ITEM.FemaleModel = "models/humans/group01/female_03.mdl"
[/lua]
Where you can set the body that it uses, there's also the flag
[lua]ITEM.Flags = {
"nogloves"
}
[/lua]
Which allows it to use your original model's hands instead of the hands on the model.
That worked, cookie. Thanks!
But eh, what about the faction bit? Still curious.
Just an fyi I finally got a PayPal. kamaitama@gmail.com
If matt ever gets one I'll post it so you can donate to him if you feel like it. This is for donations if you liked Tiramisu 2 and would like us to grow as developers.
