This isn't bad for a first release; as **Chris** says, though, you're not going to learn Lua by letting a program do your work for you. I suggest looking through the Requests forum for ideas, or coming up with your own - try to make something that does something new and original. "Shooting bullets" is a theme that's been absolutely run into the ground. :)
And can we stop fucking flaming? It's his first SWEP, god damn it. He's still learning, and instead of kicking him in the balls can we at least give him some constructive criticism rather then just shooting him down?
No, because he didn't even take the time to make a five second script, all he did was open a program that does all the work for him. Hell, if this is good work then cheesylard is a lua king. Think about it. Is this really a good first SWEP? Generating one by a program, not actually doing any coding at all?
Just shut up. I use a swep generator as a base for nearly every SWEP I make then add customization who's to say he didn't? Its much easier to generate a swep then code it all out. At the moment I am working on a customizable weapons mod ,and generated my 3 base sweps with it to save time.
Hey, are you blind? Read my post, as said twice now, I've opened his script, and another one generated by the swep factory and they're the exact same. meaning no editing was done
Oh and Houston, if you are gonna criticize me on my SWEPS on how they were made, I'll criticize yours on how bad they look. EXAMPLE ONE: G36 IRON SIGHTS ARE NOT THAT DAMN BIG. Just to let you know...
Good one. Instead of criticising the lua scripting, you're criticising the model, which I have no control over. Maybe I just wanted to have a G36c model in the pack? So if you're going to make pityful insults against me go bitch to the author of the model. Models have nothing to do with lua.
But he used it
So what? As Headhunta said, I just wanted a G36 model. the point is, not only is using this swep factory not at all lua scripting in any way it says on the damn thing not to release them!
So what? As Headhunta said, I just wanted a G36 model.
Well you could have chosen the one with right ironsight size :) (fpsbanana is full of g36c's)
Well you could have chosen the one with right ironsight size :) (fpsbanana is full of g36c's)
Why does it matter? It's not a very big deal.
Why does it matter? It's not a very big deal.
It doesn't matter, just wanted to win this argument
What are you talking about. I found another SWEP generated by Mblunk's factory, opened it with NOTEPAD, then opened your file with NOTEPAD, and saw they were completely identical. Go to the proper forum and you can see my SWEP's. Here's my 30 page thread for my SWEP's: http://forums.facepunchstudios.com/showthread.php?t=309240 The demo was released in the correct forum. I've also released a tranquilizer SWEP.
Correction, *Supposed to be sweps that I gave up on because I'm too lazy
Encouragement is one thing, but being able to create these SWEPs with a fluffy little GUI with no effort or thought process involved is another. I can't prove if BritCommando did or didn't put any effort into this. The script is identical to something the MBlunk SWEP factory would make. Either way, I discourage the use of things like Mblunk's factory if you really want to learn about something like LUA. It might be good for look-and-learn sessions, but using it to actually help create a project is lazy in my opinion.
People, seriously..... I used Mblunks as a BASE. I hexed them and the original was a SKIN, I turned this into a SWEP. So techinically I did do some work so Houston kiss my ass and shut the hell up. Edit:
Correction, *Supposed to be sweps that I gave up on because I'm too lazy
Good point CrailPlox... Edit:
It doesn't matter, just wanted to win this argument
Well you won it alright I'm with you...
I think this britcommando guy's butthurt over the bad reception of his 5-sec swep.

You're bragging that you hexed? That takes less than 5 seconds, I've hexed over 80 SWEP's for SAWPack so don't brag about it.
Thank god i'm not in the Lua section very often if this is the way you guys treat new people. If they release something made in a program or something it doesn't necissarily mean they're lazy they could just not know how to code properly, so instead of raping them about how fail they are try giving them some pointers or tips on how to do it properly. If you guys are so fucking pro then i'm sure it'd be no trouble to you.
Oh god, oh god, OH GOD!! Not again, not again, PLEASE, someone make using "Tactical" in a swep release a banword. 'Tactical' is a horribly misused buzzword, how the fuck can a gun qualify as 'tactical'? If it has 99999 damage with every shot? If it fires in a perfectly straight line with no recoil whatsoever? If it has some shit ironsight, or silencer? I HATE the word 'tactical' when used to describe a SWEP.
Houston, why do you in almost every SWEP thread, have to beat up on the new guys? Its a good weapon. It works. It looks nice. I don't really care how he made it but apparently you do somehow. This is the third thread I've seen you pick on a guy for his SWEP. If you really don't like them, just let them be.

Moreover, posting a weapon that has been generated in 30 seconds is kind of useless. If it's his first weapon, he shall keep it to himself, and only post something more consistent, with more options that he thought through.

Listen up, I don't waste my time, have that much time, or want to use my time making a script that will most likely have problems and not work. I just wanted to make a SWEP and I have now. If fags like you troop around the forums picking on people for things like this then maybe you just need to get a life. And the whole point of a SWEP generator is to make it easy moron, you know like LESS work. If you can't deal with the fact that coding is becoming easier for noobs then keep it to yourself, we don't wanna hear your bitching. Edit:
You hexed? By the way, I stopped reading your paragrpah once you stooped to the low level of maturity by calling me a f a g.
You call that work? That takes 5 seconds. By the way, I stopped reading your paragrpah once you stooped to the low level of maturity by calling me a f a g.
Houston is a complete asshole, but that doesn't stop him from totally and completely right. If you want to release trash like this, just do it on garrysmod.org and don't waste our time. I worked hard on my first SWEP too. It was better than this. And I still wasn't stupid enough to release it because I KNEW that it did not warrant attention, and furthermore, was an insult to facepunch in general. PLEASE, PEOPLE. DON'T RELEASE THIS STUFF.
[lua]-- This SWEP was generated by mblunk's swep factory.[/lua] You're right, i bet it took you a real long time to make this. You couldn't even open notepad and remove the damn watermark. Good god, and atleast give credits to the author of the model. DAMN MBLUNK.
Hehehehe Edit:
Well Mblunk's SWEP Factory has alot of problems. First of all most of the time the sound doesn't work. And like I said I only used it to create the BASE. And at least my SWEP is better than alot of others that have nothing custom just an SMG that shoots 10 shots and has no recoil and unlimited ammo. Edit: You fail at life....
Wait, how could the sound not work? As long as you enter in a valid sound, it should play normally. If not, either you entered a nonexistant sound, or you've found a bug with the EmitSound hook.
Wrong section. Shooo.
Awesome!
Well you could have chosen the one with right ironsight size :) (fpsbanana is full of g36c's)
Actually, the gun looks like it is closer to the hip instead of at your feet, like most sweps that ae made here.
Everything Houston has said in this thread is correct. Don't release stuff like this. All this is is just a shitty 2 second SWEP that took no work whatsoever. Don't release stuff made with the SWEPfactory. At all. I suck at LUA and even I could've made something like this. And you also claim to have edited it- you haven't. At all. As far as I'm concerned, this isn't a first SWEP- this shouldn't be counted as one, more of a little gun you made for GMod. Not something like anything in the SAWpack, not The Nuke, not anything else. The SWEP factory is good, it gives people opportunities to make stuff that they wouldn't be able to make(even though it is limited), but don't release the stuff. Edit:
Thank god i'm not in the Lua section very often if this is the way you guys treat new people. Stuff like this shouldn't be released. Edit: Whoever gave the OP LUA Kings must have various issues with logic.
You really can't judge a SWEP by its code. Projectile based weapons are pretty much a quick write. And I don't see the problem with speeding this process up a bit by using a generator. Would you rather rewrite everything from scratch every damn time you make a new swep? Or would you copy and paste a template you had? Wouldn't that be just as "bad" as using a generator? Seriously, Sweps should not be judged by the code. It should be judged by the Model, sounds and animations. And even if you didn't make the model it's pretty much OK to release it in my opinion, as I can see some people actually enjoying it.
Houston=douchebag, but it's true that first releases are not thread-worthy.
Does the SWEP work? Good. Does it conflict with anything, if no: Good. Does it cause problems in general, if no: Good. Also, the point of machines, etc, is to make it easier. Maybe he doesn't deserve credit or attention. Don't post, more posts, more attention. He might not have done much work at all, he did more than I am willing to do. I don't feel like downloading this weapon because I simply don't want it. So I didn't download it or criticize the guy. If you did download it and it caused problems, then come in and post about it. Or if it didn't work the way it should. Otherwise I think you should leave the guy alone.
Houston=douchebag, but it's true that first releases are not thread-worthy.
How am i a douchebag for pointing out the faults in doing it. I point out what you agree with, and I'm a douchebag?
Houston, you're not going to win with a lot of these people, they lack the mental capacity to know when to stop, and they continue arguing way past the point where they know they've lost.
Kind of like Houston... and Kalin is completely right and this was ORIGINALLY FOR MY FRIEND! I didn't even think of releasing it in the first place... Edit:
Hehehehe Edit: Wait, how could the sound not work? As long as you enter in a valid sound, it should play normally. If not, either you entered a nonexistant sound, or you've found a bug with the EmitSound hook.
Well none of my sound emitters work and the reload doesn't play sometimes, so yeah, the sounds don't work.
This thread is full of irony :rolleye:
