Woo! Space sandbox! But wouldn't all the sand fall out? :v:
Edit:
First post of page 4 :D
Getting the error
Couldn't include file 'SpaceBox/gamemode/cl_init.lua' (File not found)
Can't find it in any of the versions.

[12:37] scooby32: its an addon
Damn, it's lagging like cheese on fire.
Is there any plugins it might conflict with, such as SPP?
I just installed this, and ran it threw GM_Galactic_RC1. And... my god was it lagging!! I had like 2-3 FPS.
This is in Single Player mind you. I don't have SB 2, LS 2, or even RD 2 installed. Nor do I have GCombat.

I think you placed the files in the wrong folder...
Doesn't this need to be in Addons (not Gamemodes like you did)?

Read agean, he got it working but it lags like hell ;)
I just grabbed this. It looks like it may be great for pickup space battles. I will always like full SB+LS+CDS. But SspaceBox+GCombat looks to be some fun space combat.
I look forward to testing how well this works out. I did get a few seconds on gooniverse. I had about .5 fps until I deleted the station. That did not happen before I got this. That's ok though.

Place in garrysmod/lua/autorun :

A STOOL to make a prop static and give it a gravity well would be great.
A STOOL to make a prop static and give it a gravity well would be great.
A prop_static has no physics so it can't move.
I'm still having lag issues with this. Can the maker of this addon help please?
I'm still having lag issues with this. Can the maker of this addon help please?
He is not here, he has not been online for a week now.
I'm also having extreme lagg issues with this. I think that its kinda funny because you clearly stated that spacebuild lagged. I run sli wired Nvidia 8600 GT's and an AMD2 3.2ghz dualcore cpu. I have 2 gigabytes of ram.
Edit: Got it working, gosh I'm stupid. Couldn't even read the original post :v:.
Set gm_sbx_gravitypull to 0. Lagg will disappear.
It's not a perfect fix but it will have to do until Q42 gets back from whatever he is doing. Maybe he's on vacation :O

What about the gravity effects in general? And is there a way to set this in the lua?
I have no idea. :/ It should be about the same. Read the first post. I suck at lua :/

I meant making a prop_physics become static (as in, immobile) and make a gravity well that affects props similar to planets.

That is possible yes.
Has a way of lag reduction been found yet (except gm_sbx_gravitypull to 0)?
It was lagging my ass off on spacewar.
Umm, I _THINK_ Q42 was testing out a new way of doing the gravity which was supposedly MUCH faster, but haven't heard from him in a while now. He's been busy otherwise, I guess.
As a player who personally loves Space Build including it's added effort of making it actually able to go in space (the trick with multiplayer is build your ship in single player and advanced duplicate it for multiplayer), This looks interesting, and useful for testing a spaceship without having to kit it up with various breathing stuff.
I'll download this, looks like fun.
Awesome for space fights that make little sense.
Edit: Tested, and it's laggier than playing on a server with over 200 ping.
That's unacceptable, deleted.
Q, you are awesome. You seem to have the same kind of playing style as me and my friends, and you help that style with your awesome, well implemented code. You keep your cool with Lpine (I would have really lost my rag with that guy), and as such you are 10x the person he is, as well as being 10x the coder.
Edit: Also, I'm all for the idea of a convar that dictates whether gravity affects players.
Also, I would like to say this is a godsend to people like me. Me and my friend love to have space-fights. Yet, when your main capital ship is just under 100 props, you don't want to add to that with like 50 entities plus lots of rope just to keep you alive.

Man you are way behind on things
I still love this addon
Still seems to work for me, I hope that someone can poke Q42 in to maybe sprucing it up a bit, on some maps it does seem to cause lag for some people (it's epic fail on Gooniverse (I think, there are a few maps with them) until you delete that space station)
I'm going to bump this to request for this mod to have the option to turn player gravity on and off. I personally like it when you could float in space.

Join the club (it's been requested by others as well, I think). ;)
I'd imagine this option would be included in the Next Release _IF_ Q42 can ever get himself to finish it. It was supposed to have been optimized to minimize server stress... :tinfoil:
Did this ever get fixed?
Did this ever get fixed?
Q42 hasn't been on since last July I believe. We could always pester him by email to see if he could resume work on it.
"fly me to the fucking moon, Frank"
Epic.
Well why don't you just make it compatible with the stool with life support. Gravity Plating, all it does is make the prop itself have a gravity bubble around it so you can walk normally. That way everyone is happy, you can walk in your ship and station, and still float in space.
Remember, gravity has an inverse square falloff. That means that it has technically infinite range, and merely rounds down to zero in some places. These places are generally outside of galaxies, or at Lagrange points, which are kinda more the fault of velocities n' such. With the static bodies of spacebuild maps, Lagrange points result in the aforementioned "garbage dumps"
helpful AND not helpful! :science:
Sounds to me that there is friction in the system. If I am understanding "static bodies" (the planets aren't moving in relation the the sun or each other) Then the null point/Lagrange would not become natural garbage dumps as a dead/un-powered ship would just continue *through* it.
Maybe a "parking lot" if a pilot *actively* decelerated the ship within the point. But, for an un-powered object (asteroid, spent rocket motor, battle debris) to be coming at it, at just the right (very slow) velocity to avoid overshoot is highly unlikely.
Space is supposed to be (near) frictionless... think of pool balls on a table that they never slow down on.
