I'm not looking to be a killjoy here. I never am. I just don't want anything in my pack to follow hollywood's pseudo-realistic (and fairly retarded) take on guns and explosives, which is what I see almost every video game doing these days.
I only zing'd him because I had no idea it was actual movie pyrotechnics.
Anyhow, back to the pack discussion.
It would be nice if you were on steam more often as well.
Anyway, i got a request of sorts, even though i doubt you will do it time soon, if ever, mostly because you have so much stuff planned already, but a thing that i think could improve this significantly is the ability to make more powerful explosives, perhaps som kind of explosives editor or simply different types of explosive.
Couldn't you just pile a bunch of C4 together? It has cumulative effects, you know.
What do you mean?
I reckon he means a fuzekit style editor, but for explosives, so you can set radius damage etc. But I don't think that's really needed.
I reckon he means a fuzekit style editor, but for explosives, so you can set radius damage etc. But I don't think that's really needed.
Well, you can do that with wire already. IRL if you want more explosive power you have to use more powerful explosives or more of them or some combination of the two. If he means more types of explosives, then that will come eventually, I suppose.
Ugh...
I mean real explosions.
What you're seeing in that video is what appears to be gasoline pyrotechnics explosives (specially rigged to create a fireball) combined with tracer fire.
Every explosion you ever see in a fucking movie is pyrotechnics. Real explosions are fast, violent, loud, visually unceremonious and messy. You get visual drama when you use things like firecrackers, sometimes carbombs, fireworks, etc, but almost never with real military-duty plastic explosives, and especially not grenades. The most light you'll get is a brief flash from some kind of high explosive in the first fraction of a second before the dustcloud and smoke engulfs everything. At night, it will be more obvious, but my point stands. You'll never be able to use an explosion to light something up, and explosions prety much never start fires (except in the case of igniting some kind of other highly reactive substance).
Sometimes if you accumulate an insane amount of high explosives (enough so that the explosive's shockwave won't carry far enough to light all the other explosive and it all must be detonated externally), you can see burning (as in, a dispersion flame coming from within the smoke) that results from the partial detonation of the explosive. This is the case sometimes with huge munition disposal explosions, but never controlled, utilitarian explosions. If you're using a uniform explosive, and detonating it efficiently, then there's at most a flash for a split second which can really only be seen in dark conditions.
And we're dealing with grenades and plastic explosives here. No fucking pyrotechnics.
[editline]25th June 2011[/editline]
Noobcake, stop being immature and counter-productive. He posted an irrelevant pyrotechnics demonstration video and you know it.
Grenades are messy as fuck, btw, did you make it so the grenades have a fairly small explosion effect, but throw shrapnel everywhere and have a split second trail from the shrapnel moving at Mach 4?
Grenades are messy as fuck, btw, did you make it so the grenades have a fairly small explosion effect, but throw shrapnel everywhere and have a split second trail from the shrapnel moving at Mach 4?
Yeah, that's about how I did it. The grenade explosion is just a normal HL2 explosion with a little extra smoke.
The "shrapnel" pieces are just bullet structs, and I believe I left their tracers on...
So yeah, that's about how I did it. Why, do you not agree?
Seriously Jackarunda... Great job!
Everyone on my Zombie server absolutely loves this pack!
The realism and models are intense, and all of the additional items (backpack, suit) make it that much more involved. We where long over due for some updated and realistic Sweps!
Two things:
1. I use this in conjunction with another Mad Cow Base... Zombie Hunting Weapons to be exact.
http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=979567)
Is this going to conflict with each other, or crash my server? (I have noticed more frequent crashes)
2. Could you recommend a method so players can download the needed models for this pack when they join a server? Like Mad Cow 3.0? I realize the models are huge, but we have access to a quick FastDL Server...
Thanks!

No, this pack shouldn't conflict with anything. All the models that aren't generic I hexed into the pack myself, and the operation of the weapons uses fairly unique variables. I can't say for absolute sure,
but it should be fine as far as I can tell.
There's a lua method that forces joining players to download files when they join an MP server, and it's something that most addons use, but it's also something that I'm unfamiliar with and thus have not even tried to implement in the pack.
I'm pretty sure it's just placing a bunch of command lines in an autorun file, but I'm not sure. You know what? That will be my project for today. I will work on it and release an update that will make this more multiplayer-friendly.
[editline]28th June 2011[/editline]
And by the way... would you be so kind as to link me to your server? I'd love to use these in an MP zombie killing scenario, which is something I've never gotten to do <:)

Great, that's good to hear Jackarunda! Those are the only two swep packs on the server, and I don't see a need for anything else!
I am slightly familiar with the "resource.addfile" function... that's how i've been getting the models and textures to work recently... To my knowledge there are some bugs with it though...
I would be happy to have you try out the sweps on our server Jackarunda... Feel free!
I also don't mind give you extra privileges if you need to test some specific things out too, logs, rcon, and the like... Anyway I can help!
Just message me steam: shawnmd

You're going to make players download over 300mb of content?
That's what I said to him.
You're going to make players download over 300mb of content?
Well then what the hell do you suggest?
Get them to download it themselves. 300mb of content would take far too long to join a server, even worse, it all gets put into their garrysmod folder and they could never uninstall it; it'd just be in their game unused.
Get them to download it themselves.
ಠ_ಠ
Allow me to reiterate:
--> guy asks for there to be some kind of multiplayer content support
--> because you can't get someone to DL the thing themselves before they join
--> jacky counters with notion of using resource.addfile() to alleviate this problem
--> is met with positive response
--> kfj says that's not the solution
--> jacky asks what the solution is, then
--> kfj states the the solution is getting people to DL it theselves before joining
[sarcasm] No circular, self-defeating logic here, no siree bob [/sarcasm]
[editline]29th June 2011[/editline]
And how is this different from any other addon that uses resource.addfile?
Here's the situation:
Problem: you didn't DL the pack before joining a server that's using it
Solution 1: You DL an assload of files while joining in order to be able to use it
Solution 2: You join the server anyways with no addfiles and everything is ERROR
Solution 3: You be Jackarunda and jump through your ass to make a solution that magically avoids all unpleasantness in order to satisfy KFJ and Noobcake even though it may defy the capabilities of gmod
fuck you KFJ, FUCK YOU

And that was kind of what i meant, other types of explosives that are stronger/weaker and such.
And i know i can put pieces of C4 together, but it really is a hassle.
And about the downloading thing, its not like they have to redownload it if they already have it, so i dont see the problem, if they want to download it before joining, then its not like its preventing them or anything.

Exactly. If you already DL'd the pack, you won't have to download anything when you join the server. If you didn't then you should expect to have an assload of DLs waiting for you. It's just like joining a server using PHX or wire when you didn't get one of them.
As for explosives, sure.
So let's see, as far as destructive explosives go, we have C4 blocks for general demolition work on the squad level, frag grenades for killing on the individual level, the tacnuke for the destruction of towns, and not much else.

100kg Thermobaric Bomb
Goes BLAM and in a split second there's a cloud of flammable material that disperses everywhere, and a split second later the entire cloud explodes. Massive destruction.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjeMlSlHhgg skip to 0:36 and dear goodness gracious look at that shockwave ;u;
There's this "in and out" looking vacuum effect with thermobaric things... it's glorious
100kg Cluster Bomb
Goes PLOOM and throws 100 bomblets everywhere that create grenade-sized explosions.
Massive Ordinance Air Blast bomb
KA FUCKING BOOM same sized splosion as tacnuke, no pesky radiation, EMP or heatwave. Also weighs a shit-ton.
Can y'all think of some more?
PHX comes stock with gmod now and wire doesn't make you download 220MB of content. I would say solution 2 is best.
Alright new rule.
If I don't recognize your name on my friends list, you're getting deleted.

I think that the cluster bomb will probably rape everyone's FPS if you actually make it drop around 100 bomblets, beyond that they all sound great.
How about a crate stuffed with C4/TNT/something similar?

It's 03:00 and my judgement is severely impaired. Hush.
[editline]30th June 2011[/editline]
Also, I gotta add a G36 right soon here.
[editline]30th June 2011[/editline]
You all know the tacnuke right?
I'm not talking out of my ass trying to justify that one.
Look at this thing the U.S. made in the 60s: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W54
With a little more expense and technology, Jackarunda Industries could've easily shrunk that down to about the size of a mayonnaise jar and made it weight only 50 pounds. And yet it can destroy like two blocks. Told ya.
Holy shit look at the variants. One of the variants, which shares the same dimensions as all the others, is capable of one kiloton. That's 1000 tons of TNT. That's 100 times the power of the MOAB. FUCK. The power of nuclear weapons is absolutely staggering.
I think in light of this new information I'm going to have to dial up the explosive yield of the TacNuke and change its specs in order to make it more realistic.
[editline]30th June 2011[/editline]
Gotta love gmod... the only place where a 500 pound Mk. 82 bomb has a blast radius of 10 meters :)
That butterfly is made of C3, and its from Metal gear solid 3.
It was a joke.
Why that video?
Uhm... I have nothing against the Tacnuke.
That butterfly is made of C3, and its from Metal gear solid 3.

Uhm... I have nothing against the Tacnuke.
Lol, the video was random.
Here are the real life specs for you guys, so that you can see the reasoning behind why I do stuff:
The MOAB (widely considered the biggest non-nuclear bomb in the world, of course excepting Russia's FOAB because it's so undocumented), is a big (9 meters long) orange bomb (I believe I saw one in garry'sbomb3) that contains 8 and a half tons of H6, which appears to be equivalent in power to C4.
It has a blast yield of 11 tons, which gives it a whopping blast radius of 150 meters.
There's also the smallest nuclear devices ever created, the U.S. W54 warheads. Their smallest yield was 10 tons.
So you see, if I just dial up the TacNuke's explosion by about 30 percent, I can make its explosion have a blast radius of 150 meters and I can say that it's a mayonnaise-jar sized 10 ton nuclear warhead.
Then, I can make a MOAB with that same blast radius and none of the other effects.
But just so you know
I would be justified in making my little baby nuke have a yield of 1000 tons, which of course would envelope the entirety of every map, like most traditional gmod nukes do. I don't really want to do that, though.
Can you imagine a one kiloton explosion coming from such a tiny thing?

And that's 60s tech. Imagine what we could do now.
They did this and made special carrying devices under the notion that they could send in SEAL teams carrying one to plant it at an enemy something-or-other and get out and detonate it to completely annihilate the enemy's base/thing. That's exactly how I imagine my Tacnuke being used.
[editline]30th June 2011[/editline]
Also, as I'm increasing the nuke's power, I'm also giving the explosion a wave-like quality by timing different sized blastdamages. Yay.
Is there any other way to detonate the mini nuke? I honestly don't feel like getting wire to blow it up.
:words:
To be honest i pretty much never use any of the nuclear bombs in this pack, because usually it kills pretty much everyone, even if they are on the other side of the map.
One of the many reasons i would like to see some bigger explosives that are not nuclear in nature.
And yes, Garry's bombs had a MOAB, but if i remember right it was one of those annoying bombs that just blew up the entire freaking map.
Is there any other way to detonate the mini nuke? I honestly don't feel like getting wire to blow it up.
To my knowledge the only way to detonate it is indeed through wire, unless it counts if its leaking radiation, which it does when it is shot.
Is there any other way to detonate the mini nuke? I honestly don't feel like getting wire to blow it up.
Ffiiiiiiinne.
Next update will contain support for JI Detonators to be able to set it off without needing the support of wire.

Its max range is only 6000 units, you know. You must play on small-ass maps O_o
