Wasn't this admin mod really easy to use?
Yes. Yes it is. He was confused about *everything* not just MOOCOW. I talked him through it, with the same instructions on the wiki.
But... but I like citrus :c

Ha, Yeah I was very confused. But Now it's running pretty well, only I've run into a Lua error. While on my server (this was while multiple people were on) i tried to edit the restrictedtools, but instead of getting to edit the restricted tools, a lua error came up saying that MOOCOW was trying to use a NULL entity. All of the other commands work but the restriction commands have this lua error.
Rare error, unfortunately he didn't save the actual error message, so I don't know what line to check.... I'll get on this as soon as someone can report an occurance with a line number. For now, he restarted (could've just did moocow_load) and is running fine.
Finally tried this, Good job dude, one of the best admin mods i've used
But... but I like citrus :c
I think that was almost as bad as newadmin.
and I'm not quite sure what you mean by that Nevec?
I'm sorry, I just sometimes critically comment on everything people post. You don't write mods in a library. You write them with/using a library. Remember, there are people who not only want the end product, they also judge you by your own knowladge.
I think that was almost as bad as newadmin.
Explain to me why. Citrus, despite some other yet unweiled systems, was the best one ever relesed. It was just hated because of its creator.
Welcome to MOOCOW, the Manual Obedience Operations Control of Win!
Sorry, but the name is just stupid. Makes it sound like the mod was written by a 14 year old kid. Admin mods are there for security and ease of administration. I wouldn't trust "MOOCOW Admin Mod" on my server any more than I would trust "MOOCOW Lube & Tune" to fix my car. Sounds very unprofessional. Sure, it's just a name.. but the name is the first thing everyone sees and it is a reflection of the competence of the author. ULX on the other hand has a nice solid, bold name... no attempts to be cute/funny.
News: MOOCOW VERSION 1.0 RELEASED!!!!!!! (4/6/09) - 27 days after starting
That is not something to go around bragging about. If you say "2 years in the making", it sounds like a great deal of time and care was spent in development. "27 days after starting" makes it sound like it was rushed. You jumped straight to 1.0 way too soon. Should have given it a lot more time in testing stage. There's no shame in calling it alpha/beta while the masses have a chance to thoroughly test it out.
Please take this as constructive criticism rather than bashing your mod. I haven't tried it yet, but probably will one day soon. I don't care much for ULX.
Judging from all the stuff, I'm thinking turck is a semi-inexperienced (not in the bad, OMG UR SHIT way) Lua coder who just did everything...mostly right.

If you don't like the name, that's your problem. Quite frankly, it's origin is a meme that started over at www.wiremod.com .....so of course you wouldn't get it.....
27 days 'is' a long time if I spend 12 hours+ coding each day... it's not like most projects where you have people working 'maybe' one hour each day... it was not at all rushed, and it did in fact have a beta stage... hence my thanking the testers on the first page........
It had a large enough testing phase to fix most of the errors that it did come with, even though those were few and far in between.
I assure you, you are 100% wrong in thinking that this mod wasn't tested.

I normally code C++/Java this is my first lua program ever, it doesn't really matter though: experience in code is experience for all coding languages. I've been coding for several years, and the practices I use in my other languages show here too because of my familiarity with the structure/design of good code.
I didn't get lucky and just do everything 'mostly right' because I'm new, I did it right because I know how it should be done.

Rare around FP these days.
looks nice I will be adding it to my server.
Rare around FP these days.
This guy came from the Wiremod Forums, he probably already had a vague understanding of how shit should be done. Unlike most new scripters he didn't release it till it actually worked.
As I already explained, it's not because I came from the wire forums, it's because I've been coding for years, it's what I do. And as for why I didn't release it till it worked, it's because I like to break down FP into categories of users:
1. Flamers
2. Idiots
3. Smart (0.05%)
4. Silent
and I didn't want the flamers to have their rampage stick.
Wow, awesome. Does this support sui_scoreboard? If so, I will download this. And when you add ranks/groups. You can change colour, health, armor, weapons?
No, it currently has no scoreboard, I will be making one in the future. You will be able to change color, but not health, armor, or weapons based on rank.... I can write a plugin for that though. Be aware though, I have put MOOCOW on hold for new features (I'll still fix bugs) for a bit while I work on my next project, when that is complete, I'll add more to MOOCOW.
When you get back to working on it would you be able to implement a gloabl ban function? The community I am from has 2 servers and it would be very useful being about to use on command to ban a player from all servers.
Another feature I'd like to see is a vote function. Something as simple as /vote <question> <option1> <option2> <option3> etc.
can you rename it? "MOOOOOOKAW HAZ BANND MI" sounds strange
global bans.... I'll look into it....
voting is already in the plans, you will be able to use it with any preexisting command that the server owner allows.
No, I won't rename it, but that's not a message either :P.... it would just say "BANNED: <time + reason here>"
Please add an option to remove this spam from my server console. I don't give a shit about loading plugins.

If you need help working it out, you could look into how UBan works.
@Overv - It's debug information. I'll add a setting, still, it's not like it really makes any difference.... it's just a few lines
@BlackOut - thanks, I may or may not look at that particular source, but it's good to know that I can use something as a reference.
EDIT:
disable_load_msg 1 will remove the MOOCOW LOADED: messages.

Stop attempting to find fault with this addon simply because it competes with your own. I could understand honest attempts to help through constructive criticism, but instead you're being a dick over simple things that normal people overlook with ease. I run a server using this mod and I could not care less about the stupid "X addon loaded..." text. Hell, even if you do care, you're a Lua coder yourself, couldn't you simply fix it instead of telling someone else to because you don't like it?
Now, that said, extremely useful mod sir. I hope to see updates in the future, perhaps a more organized GUI? By organized I mean separate different commands into different categories such as Administration, Fun, Messaging, and Item Management (giving health/armor/weaponry/etc).
While that could be done, I personally like the alphabetical layout, it makes it easier to find what you're looking for.
Overv is totally against any text notifications what so ever. He wrote NewAdmin and said it was better than ULX because, and I'm paraphrasing here, it doesn't have an annoying MOTD or have to spam itself every few minutes in chat.
What I find funny is that if Overv had taken all of 5 minutes to read the readme file, he would have seen a reference to a ULX server configuration file where tons of features can be set up including....yep, you guessed it, the ability to remove/disable ads and MOTD.
Turck3, ignore Overv. Many others do. Keep your chin up.
I won't say it's better than ULX (yes, I'm biased), but I don't mind occasional competition.
Thanks for the constructive comments, I don't take anything he says in offense, quite frankly, I think he's just pissed about the reception of his mod vs MOOCOW. I only added that setting because I had been meaning to anyway, I figured someone would ask sooner or later.
Another thing a lot of administration mods lack is a prop logging system. If you don't already know what it is, it pretty much just prints in the admins console when a player spawns a prop, their SteamID and the prop they spawned. On Sandbox servers it makes it very easy to track down who's spamming.
Thanks again ;)
That info goes into the logs, but not admin consoles, I can look into adding a flag for that kind of thing, but that'll be written when I finish my other project :P

Well seeing as you're busy on something else at the moment, how easy would it be for me to go about adding my own groups of commands into the GUI?
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
