Since you are releasing the greater version now and i can't be bothered to update my only partially better than the original version how about adding Male/Female to the colonies (like my branch) and have you done the multiple eggs at a time?
Sweet

Hmm
Ok. Since i'm rewriting it, I may as well add in genders.
Although...
I'm not planning on putting in sexual (i.e. two parents) reproduction any time soon. Might make things a bit too complex. I'd rather do the genetic stuff first, as well as the priority based system.
And yes. All animals can lay more than one egg at a time.
Updates? :D (ETA?)
Why does my Headcrab sit arround all day and play Call of Duty 4! He needs a job!
Updates? :D (ETA?)
If i get time today, I'll do some more work on it. I do have quite a lot of other work to do, but no worries. I may take a while but I'm not copying Valve ;)
Sorry, still no ETA. The new system may work out well, or it may be completely bonkers.

The new version makes them wander randomly and occasionally go on long journeys (in order to spread out the population).
:3
This is amazing, can't wait for future versions.

My version just has male and female but a male +female are not required to make eggs (one of the flaws in my version) Having different sexes would greatly (like half) the growth rate of the colonies as well (though having multiple eggs at a time speeds it up faster than the original). So it is possible to kill a whole colony by killing off the female headcrabs.
Have you made anything random? Like age length and such?

Currently, I haven't made anything random (other than wandering and whatnot).
As i said, the genetic system is very much a work in progress. And I'm definitely working on it.
Listen up, dawgs: this is my current work order (for those of you who are interested):
1) [If necessary] Some bugfixing. I think the wandering code is messed up, will check.
2) Priority based system: makes the AI more modular. Depending on the need for particular things, certain tasks will always take priority. This is already implemented but is a little mixed up, making it harder to understand or modify. Thus, a large re-arrangement is required.
3) Genetic system (this also includes what hogofwar, as well as others, said: that is, gender and whatnot). Please read my numerous posts above for more information.
any news about updates for this lua
if you implemented male and female genders, it would (probably) filter out the weaker genes automatically. Assuming their environment is harsh enough (e.g. not enough food). It could be an interesting experiment.
Are you going to fix that thing where the Antlions (or fast headcrabs) kill themselves with the melons? lol I lost half my Antlion colony because of 1 melon and all the ragdolls killing eachother :)
Ok guys, right now i'm in the grip of a rather bad sickness. I may be able to work some more this weekend. Numerous events have meant I haven't been able to work on it for a short while, but -I have not forgotten-. Worry not.
Is JgcxCub banned :O NOESSSSSSSSS

This would make a pretty good if we factored in color ( no racism intended)
Okay, where is the latest version? All this new stuff looks awesome and I can't tell if the version with it has been released or not.... If it has, where is it? If not, just tell me.

just freeze the melons when there are fast headcrabs around
That would take a long time and the melons keep spawning. :( So that is not an option :D

I'm back. Woop!
And I am trying to get a chance to work on it. Unfortunately, what with impending exams and whatnot, my free time and energy will be reduced. So work will be reduced, but not stopped.
As i said: don't worry!
It's Creatures, ported to Garry's Mod using headcrabs!
I think that this should be made into a gamemode.
[editline]11:03AM[/editline]
Where would you download the new changes people are making? Just the normal colonies download? Or some special place?
[editline]11:43AM[/editline]
Oh, and I know this was suggested on the first page, but would it be possible to make the headcrabs/antlions make buildings(spawn props). I also don't see why its not possible.
Mk2342, Headcrabs and Antlions are not sentient creatures yet (are far as we know), so that would be a little weird if a Headcrab made a house with its tiny claws :D
In answer to your questions, peeps:
1) You can download the original colonies on gmod.org, I'm pretty sure.
However, none of the updates you can read about here (as far as i know) are available. At least, from me. But I do have danharibo's permission to continue work, so woop.
2) It wouldn't be impossible PER SE to let them build stuff. But it would be awkward, hard to code, and probably wouldn't look good or serve any purpose. Also, there are more pressing issues. As you may have guessed, little work has been done on Colonies by me recently: however, I AM working to resolve this.
Please, do not keep fretting that this is dead. Far from it.
What I would like is decent, usuable ideas that you think would benefit the mod. And when it comes out: complements, comments, and constructive criticism. Thanks.
Jgcx
:o Okay compliment, you are doing a swell job keep it up :D; comment, the berd is the werd; constructive criticism.... HUH?; ideas, drugged Headcrabs/Antlions, fix the eating problem, make the melons pie :D.
Word. I would like a colony's function to change in relation to its size. For example: a small colony just starting out would just focus on holding its small patch of territory and reproducing. As the population increases, it focuses more towards exploration and expansion.
So.... Updates :D
Heh, good timing.
By the way, I'm going to ask DanHaribo if i can make a new thread for this. This thread has basically become too old: since the OP hasn't updated it, it looks dead. I might make a new one to show it isn't dead.
So..... that means its finally done?
So..... that means its finally done?
Ha, unfortunately no. I have FINALLY managed to restart work on it tonight.
So nothing has happened since i last talked about it, at least concerning the actual scripting.
But i'm working on it tonight.
So stop worrying!
...... That's depressing :(
