The ring system is here. Same as shield-core. But facepunch community does not deserve for it. Yet. You (community) have to grow up a little bit for that. Hovewer I gave you an opportunity (as for community) to use my unfinished stuff. But I demanded starting a fresh Stargate pack, that would make it even better than Cap is now. No one wanted to do it, so how can I give you my stuff? Just to see it's integrated in cap, while half of other stuff and addon conflicts are still here (for example old legacy addon support instead of workshop)... So, cartman, you really want a not-finished-projects flame war? Fine! Mine not finished: - daedalus sim; - shield core upgrade; - rings upgrade; - x302 with realistic fly; Note, that I've suspended them for a reason (like Izi left because of work, or I'm making engineering ending project), not for something like a lackens of knowledge. Now, yours not finished projects: - a terminator hud, aka a red overlay for gmod with text showing up above props; - a hud pop up with 3 buttons and a text saying you died; - a element toy, the wonderful pixel drawing game with realistic physics only without that physics part; - a "Quest gate", print a random string on the screen from a list of predefined strings, gamemode; - a program in visual basic (you failed here) that generated random adrress for stargates; - a "lua interpreter in visual basic" probably abandoned because of need of study regex and formal languages for that; Seems like you are starting a new project every 3 day ;) Anyway, end off flame war, I'm tired with that. Seems I shouldn't be here any more since i left Cap, so bye facepunch community! You shall not see me any longer.
I like how you say we aren't grown up enough when you yourself just left FacePunch because of people asking for what you promised and made a big thing about for a while before quitting... also I think it's kinda funny that you say we aren't grown up enough when you yourself DEMANDED a whole new stargate addon..... word of advice that you have said to others, "You can make your own" I think it's safe to say now that you are the child in this. you made promises you could not keep and then called us children. CAP is also the best stargate addon out there currently, with the exception of a few minor bugs, why replace a HUGE thing that can be fixed? At least Cartman has made recent contributions to CAP and has had ideas he's seen to the end. It seems you haven't finished a lot of things lately. I also agree with Alex, Legacy system is better and easier to update.
(for example old legacy addon support instead of workshop)...
Aren't you the one that yelled at me on Steam for asking you if it's possible to add it to Workshop? Why the sudden change of heart about it, or just want to put as many arguments as you can?
I've noticed a conflict between the atmospheres in the horizon gamemode and the atlantis transporter and rings. the transporter and rings transport the horizon atmospheres too.
Well according to the wiki, transporter rings transport all matter within them, including the atmosphere:
All matter the rings contain when they are activated is dematerialized and teleported via matter stream to another set of rings in a different location where it is then rematerialized. A unique feature of the Transportation rings is that it "swaps" matter between the two locations. If there is a person or object within the receiving set of rings, the rings simply exchange the two simultaneously. This is a safety measure to prevent transmitted matter from "fusing" with ambient matter – an occurrence that would damage inanimate objects and kill organic life even if were merely atmospheric gases in the way.
http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Transportation_rings
Well according to the wiki, transporter rings transport all matter within them, including the atmosphere: http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Transportation_rings
1. this is gmod 2. it's not supposed to in gmod 3. and when i said atmosphere, i meant the ENTIRE planet's atmosphere.
Well according to the wiki, transporter rings transport all matter within them, including the atmosphere: http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/Transportation_rings
Smart answer, but that is not what Kibbols means. They are transporting the entities which define a planet's atmosphere, which is not what should be happening. They used to do this to spacebuild as well, all the needs to be done to fix it is to add the entities class to the ignore list, which I'm sure AlexALX will get around to in due time.
1. this is gmod 2. it's not supposed to in gmod 3. and when i said atmosphere, i meant the ENTIRE planet's atmosphere.
Oh god, can you imagine the fun with that.
tl;dr Madman is a guy who never gets anything released, and thinks closed-source is the best thing since sliced bread Atlantis transporters are now weapons Go cartman.
tl;dr Madman is a guy who never gets anything released, and thinks closed-source is the best thing since sliced bread Atlantis transporters are now weapons Go cartman.
Well that sounds rather unjust, he prob didn't release because he quit cap...
Approaching SGU levels of drama here guys >.> As for the rings/asgard + horizon's atmospheres, the config has a list of entities they should ignore. Either make a user_config, or have someone update the config to ignore the atmospheres (I think sb atmospheres also have this problem if you're in the centre of one). The atlantis transporter will probably do the same now I think about it.
You are so funny :) Seems no one remmeber I offered my entire gmod sdk (this contain unfinished priest staff models, new zat and staff models, shield core code, x302, ring system, flyboi atlantis transporter and so on) content about 2 months ago. As I remember, no one was interested in that. SO you cannot really say I'm not releasing it. Hovewer, if you mean contributing to cap as releasing, then I cannot be any longer cap contributor. I'm still at words that cap isn't optimized nor it's bug free. Sometimes it's not worth of fixing something, it's better to start new one. But I didn't demanded new addon. I've asked several times, who want to create new set of addons with me and with Boba. No one answered, because you've all are with yours eyes fixed on CAP, rather to see truth. I changed my mind about legacy addon system because of garry. He made it 'old', so why use it? You have to go with the spirit of time, and not stick to old good ways. I said it quite long time ago it's better to upload pack on workshop as separte packs (autoupdate + users could select which pack they want to). Also, cap is CC licenced, no gpu violating would be. Closed-source is good, i like it. You have no right to jujdge me about it, since it's so personal decission like choose between intel and amd, ati or nvidia, linux or windows. Have you got anything more? I don't want you think I was bad perspon for cap. I wasted many hours of my time, even entire hot summer for it. I've almost started it and bringed it here (however since alex came, he took over my role).
Somewhere I still want to start from scratch again but this time with the knowledge we've learned so far and with proper modeling and what not... but yea gmod's stargate community ain't all to big to have those spare modders in it. I should read the text what this argument has brought up in the first place as I can't follow all the way, but I know one thing and that is that Madman Rocks! So STFU all of you who's bashing his awesomeness!
Oh, no. You people missed the point. i didnt said anything about madman being a bad person or something. only that its not nice to tell people that you have something if youre not going to release it.
I think madman, that we are all very thanful that you got cap to where you did. If you offered it, is that offer still open??? If it is, im sure more would want it now. @cartman what has he told people he has and not gonna release, if he has offered, (and offer still open) then yeah, he is not telling us no. a @the eyes, how is atlantis transporter weapon??? @madman and boba - why create a whole new addon, when CAP already has a community, a great name, and lots of content. Surely it would just be better to patch cap up to perfect standard, rather than start over totally. Like new staff and zat models, why couldn't they be added? Granted, some things prob should re-code from scratch, but no point saying that whole of it needs re-coding. It would be better to re-code the stuff you want, and the rest, just leave it. Also, nothing in CAP is majorly bugged. Everything in cap works how it is meant to well, even if there are the odd bug. Please don't be annoyed or offended with this, I am just stating a point of view.

I told you I'd write a better list :))
tl;dr Madman is a guy who never gets anything released, and thinks closed-source is the best thing since sliced bread Atlantis transporters are now weapons Go cartman.
Oh, so madman doesn't get anything released. Hmm let's see: -- AG-3 satellites -- Apple Core -- Asgard Beam Weapon -- Dakara Weapon -- Destiny turret -- Doors and doors Controllers -- F-302 -- Horizon -- Main Destiny Weapon -- Medium Destiny turret -- Ori Satellite -- Shield Core -- Ship Hangar -- Ship Rail gun -- Stationary Rail gun -- Stationary Staff Weapon And that's just a small part. He was the creator of the Stargate Weapons addon, one of the packs that started CAP, along with Assassins stargates and Ronon's ships. Btw, the cap community's expectation's have dropped significantly since we first started. Two years ago people complained about gates not having model clipping, and weren't satisfied with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7jIphm8_mo Today, apparently this passes as a legitimate stargate addon http://sg-carterpack.com/index.php/topic,312.0.html What the hell happened to the world ?
@orilla, Better name is Stargate :) It would also have good and lot of content, but better than cap, divided into small packs. I don't like the way cap is written - almost most of functions and statements are dangerous! There should be tons of safefails... @Izi, I couldn't :D @Alex. You know that there are server user who hate svn? Because they have to upload updated files or upload everything, because they're using ftp thus they cannot use svn?? Workshop solves it :)
@Alex. You know that there are server user who hate svn? Because they have to upload updated files or upload everything, because they're using ftp thus they cannot use svn?? Workshop solves it :)
Not really. Workshop on dedicated servers can download only 64mb size addons. Everything higher - will not work. Like garry said "source engine server limitation of downloading files". Maybe he will found some solution for fix it, but right now this not work)
@orilla It's because starting on something new from scratch is easier than editing something that already exists. A good example would be the gates, the current gates in cap are scaled to the Avon size as like we also based upon avon in the beginning, adjusting everything to his sized gates etc though the Avon Sized Gates are incorrect they're just to small to the real deal, so if we would change this we would also require to change: all the ramps, puddlejumper/gatejumper and just everything associated with the stargate. So yea that's only 1 small example and this is what happened in mostly of the cap because we based upon Avon's Stargate Addon, if we wouldn't in the time we started CAP not much would've come from it 'or just the opposite? Who knows' but that's one reason why we would have wanted to start all the way back from scratch with the plain name: Stargate Addon "or whatever name we would give to it" But yea no one answered our call to be in the team so we all lost interest, these days I still wonder why I'm still in CAP... But yea in 2013 I'll prob quit when the forum will be shutdown that's mainly the only reason that I'm in cap Forum Management.
Also, I forgot to include it in my previous post: -svn easier for developers -workshop easier for end-users since it only takes one click to subscribe to an addon, and it updates automatically. No messing arround with files required, more people would use the addon, and less people would complain about it not working because they downloaded the svn to their windows/system32 folder "by accident". Addon development should work like this: -devs work on private svn repository -periodically pack up the files and do an update on workshop This of course would mean that every new version should be tested before release, by a handful of testers, outside the people who are doing the actual development, so the chance of uploading a buggy version, because it worked on the particular dev's computer, is reduced. Time between releases would increase, but so would the quality, and due to the accessibility of the workshop system, so would the number of people using it.

No open source = never care about editing lua files = never start coding in lua = never did 8-9 chevrons activation (on my first gmod videos). Etc etc etc... But fine, i'm programmer (before i start coding in lua i have already know very good php/pawn and some web-programming languages), and this for me logical, but yea, much of people is just users... Anyway in any case this thing will kill fast updates, and i'm working always in one way - when i'm doing something, i'm finish, then some tests, and release, then if there is some another bugs - going to fix it fast as possible and release. Using your way of development is correct, but for me it just slow and boring (and again then i've never did that). No extreme and failures on release :D Programming should at least give pleasure for me (unless it isn't free project, then it should give money). So coding in slow way and releasing after few months is just.... Ok i hope you understand what i mean.
@Alex. You know that there are server user who hate svn? Because they have to upload updated files or upload everything, because they're using ftp thus they cannot use svn?? Workshop solves it :)
Wrong. One of my pals and me host a server on UKs hosts and we just simply tell the support to download a SVN to a folder without actually reuploading everything via FTP. Btw if their host doesn't want SVN they simply can upload changed files, not everything. But that's another story (stupidity of server host users). [editline]11th December 2012[/editline] AlexALX. There's a problem on SRCDS with shield containment mode. It crashes server.

I also don't understand lua language, I barely know HTML5 yet. If given the chance, i could'v done some minor modeling to help, for example; crystals, stasis, and maybe some simple weapons. If you guys do end up making a new SGAddon, I'd be glad to do some minor modeling.
If you guys do end up making a new SGAddon, I'd be glad to do some minor modeling.
Don't expect anything new from us anymore, I've lost interest in Stargate some time ago... + If you would help you would require to learn the basics of Sub Division modeling and Texture Baking! Like how you would bake proper normals from a High Poly to a Low Poly.
...I barely know HTML5 yet...
If you want to learn some lua (or anybody else), try to make something EXTREMLY hard in it. You will, of course, fail, but you will also learn lua. I tried to make an E2 programmable DHD and failed (it's 80% complete). I would've succeeded but i couldn't figure out how to spawn E2 chips with predefined code, they always spawned with errors. That's how i learned it. xD
Hi. Any update on linux support?
Hi. Any update on linux support?
It had been added 40 revs ago...
Too bad there ill be no new pack i was hoping for a stargate where the wraith dart would fit in
Super;38800103']Too bad there ill be no new pack i was hoping for a stargate where the wraith dart would fit in
If u have a site, facebook, google+, social group, whatever, just post an advert asking everyone u know if they are interested in modelling for an open-source stargate modification, and u might get what u asked for.
Super;38800103']Too bad there ill be no new pack i was hoping for a stargate where the wraith dart would fit in
well it fits in the supergate ....... that's sought of a stargate
well it fits in the supergate ....... that's sought of a stargate
Not quite what i meant but the gates are too small. Really good detail but just not at the right size.
