i looked for it, idk how please pardon my errors, i'm new to modeling for games and am just trying to learn how do i do the alpha? gimp? vtfedit? don't rate this dumb. again, i'm still learning
Best would be photoshop with a vtf plugin, but I guess you can do it in gimp also. But I remember having some problems with gimp when I was modeling.
"VertexlitGeneric" { "$basetexture" "custom models/crystal/crystal" "$normalmapalphaenvmapmask" 1 "$surfaceprop" "Glass" "$envmap" "env_cubemap" "$translucent" 1 }
like that? [editline]10th September 2012[/editline]
You can also use Paint.NET, it's free, there is a .vtf plugin and it makes nice transparent shit.
just my orange material, only translucent? or translucent black?
Smoothing. Idk how it's in blender or sketchup, but in 3ds max, while having selected a Polygon object, select all polys, right side menu go to bottom to smothing groups, select "Clear all". Vtf plugin for Paint.Net is working nice, I'm was using it often. But since Paint.Net doesn't have support for layers (no idea why, it should have it) you need to look also for alpha mask plugin.
would the alpha be the orange-red just translucent?

Where did you heard that? [editline]10th September 2012[/editline]
would the alpha be the orange-red just translucent, or would it be a translucent black?
It would be like orange red glass.

You make everything you would do with a normal image, there's no difference except the alpha in-game. Here's an example of my crystal texture (Alpha is 200 and it's not really visible in browser). -snip- rate this dumb. i really feel like an idiot.
Fuck It's hard to type and to facepalm at the same time... really a simple visit to the Valve Wiki "https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Main_Page" with a simple search function you can find most to anything! The texture should be imported in .tga format with an 50% gray or 80% gray alpha channel in vtf you require to go to channels and enable mask to see the effect in VTFEdit or simply press CRTL+M to switch between masks, make sure your alpha format is in DXT5 "for compressed alpha" or RGBA8888 "for uncompressed alpha" make sure this is also associated with your Normal Format as of DXT1 and RGB888 for same reasons as above! Than once more go to the Blender Wiki do a quick search on Smoothing Groups and voila you've got your wiki page: "http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:2.4/Manual/Modeling/Meshes/Smoothing" Just follow the instruction and for a crystal like this no smoothing is required so you'll require to remove all smoothing as currently all faces have the same smoothing group! THAN WITH THE VMT USE DECENT SHADERS BUT THATS FOR NEXT TIME KIDS SAME PLACE SAME HOUR! This was the meet and greet show with Rafaël De Jongh. NOW GET TO WORK!
I DIDN'T MAKE THE DAMN CRYSTAL SMOOTH ON PURPOSE!
Default smoothing would have been applied "as you can see for your self in game" so you'll have to remove it either way!
RAWR WHY YOU ALL YELLING AND USING EXCLAMATION POINTS!?!?!?!?!?!
RAWR WHY YOU ALL YELLING AND USING EXCLAMATION POINTS!?!?!?!?!?!
WHY NOT?!?!?! lol
I have juse found something very intresting... Disney's Atlantis: Lost Empire is rip of of the movie Stargate. Link: http://rip-offornot.com/SGATL0003.php
almost done, just need to make some adjustments to the alpha [editline]10th September 2012[/editline] well, it's done. it would look a lot better though if it wasn't casting a shadow. [editline]10th September 2012[/editline] can't find that anywhere ^ (the shadow bit)
@kibbols Actually leave it as it is. If you didn't know, even glass casts shadows.
Dude, what the fuck? Paint.NET has great support for layers! Where did you heard that?.
Miss spell. Of course I was talking about RGBA colour layers, not image layers.
Miss spell. Of course I was talking about RGBA colour layers, not image layers.
Actually there's something like that in layer properties window. It's called opacity.
Actually there's something like that in layer properties window. It's called opacity.
Opacity =/= alpha channel [editline]11th September 2012[/editline]
almost done, just need to make some adjustments to the alpha
There you go, just a quick search and you've done what you're looking for! Now get some fancy shaders on it and make it actually look like it's made from crystal and not just glass... I'm talking about cubemaps, phong, rimlight and what not...
Actually there's something like that in layer properties window. It's called opacity.
Opacity controls transparency for the whole image. An alpha channel lets you "paint" the areas you want transparent.
I just finished watching SGU, and OMFG, they can't finish like that, I want more to watch. I am very dissapointed. I mean, a good ending if it was just the series ending, but not for a absolute finale. OMG, I think I was better of not watching it, then I wouldn't be filled with the desire to have more!!! Cmon, they NEED a new season of SGU!!! And they NEED to finish the atlantis movies. I wonder how many people truly would watch it, my guess is over 10,000,000 . :( - sad faces (suicide) because they didn't carry on SGU :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: :suicide: <couldn't include this one else I would go over image max>
And that, people, was phase three. THE END IS NEAR. I'm waiting for the part where everyone starts asking when the next rev will get released. That's my favourite part.
oops, but I'm not snipping cause this is how I feel about sgu

I seem to have an issue regarding the stargate tab when joining servers, it just refuses to show up. Shows up fine for one person, and another has the same issue as me. Also tried joining by relocating everything from the garrysmod folder beside addons, inside there the carter pack folders/wire folders. Issue still persists. Any ideas what's causing it?
