Cool look what I just made. I made it.
[lua]
--Time HUD thing
function HUDTime()
timestr = os.date()
draw.SimpleText(timestr, "ScoreboardText", ScrW() - (ScrW()-85), ScrH() - (ScrH()-15), Color(255,255,255,255),1,1)
end
hook.Add( "HUDPaint", "timeHUD", HUDTime)
[/lua]
Good game.
It's not about the license, use common sense. People don't like it when you directly port and release their / parts of their code.
How much harm would it do - adding Conna to credits, out of respect for his wish?
edit: I looked up, and my post was horribly similar to Atomiku's :excited:
If he apologises for flaming and saying that I stole "his stool" I will. Note that I used the target finder STool as my base.
Note that I used the target finder STool as my base.
How many other scripts have you used as a base?

That is complete copying which is different. If I rereleased the toggleable hoverballs and called it my own then THAT would be stealing.
How many other scripts have you used as a base?
I rarely completely retype the entire stool/entity, theres too much code which can be reused.
You aren't talking to some incompetent scriptor who just released a 5-second SWep that shoots Shurikans and shotgun blasts. You are talking to an accomplished scriptor who used 6 lines of code he could very well have stumbled upon by himself without your help. Now, yes, it isn't exactly the longest script, yes that means there is a higher chance it was stolen, but you can never be perfectly sure. By my understanding, trying to license such a small code snippet is like saying you invented Lua syntax. You see, you haven't really offered any alternatives. In fact, how do we even know that there is an alternative way to have the same effect those six little lines of code have?
When it comes down to it, I find I lose respect for both of you. Not so much for LPine, simply because He's not arguing much about it. Nothing personal Conna. You have done how many scripts in the past? To me, it seems trivial that you would bother to waste so much time over something so small compared to the total ammount of lines of Code you have done put together.
Yes, I agree, it's common sense and he should give credit anyways. I just don't see why you have to act like he stole your life's work. He obviously did not.
There is NO mention of ANY Licence in the toggleable hoverball Thread so stop complaining, its only 6 lines of code.
If no license is provided, standard copyright laws are used. It's still a breech. It's not "if he doesn't say I can't use it I can", it's "if he says I can use it I can, otherwise I can't".

But you were polite about it.

Actually no; that's like the same amount of lines as what you stole from me.
What makes it different?

It's the same thing. I didn't want to retype you're whole clock function so I just used code which was unlicensed.
Actually no; that's like the same amount of lines as what you stole from me.

I did not take all the code. This is like saying that we stole from garry cause all of our entity's have ENT:Setup.
I did not take all the code. This is like saying that we stole from garry cause all of our entity's have ENT:Setup.
You stole that too??
You aren't talking to some incompetant scriptor who just released a 5-second SWep that shoots Shurikans and shotgun blasts.
Actually, I think I'd call this a '5 Second STOOL'.
When it comes down to it, I find I lose respect for both of you. Not so much for LPine, simply because He's not arguing much about it.
If you made something and someone used it without your permission, you wouldn't be happy either.
You see, you havn't really offered any alternatives. In fact, how do we even know that there is an alternative way to have the same effect those six little lines of code have?
He could have used usermessages.
an accomplished scriptor
I did not take all the code. This is like saying that we stole from garry cause all of our entity's have ENT:Setup.
Wow, you stole from garry?!
Them functions are provided for us, and for us to use. This function was made for me to use, and others with credit.
Edit: D-d-d-d-d-d-ouble post!
This is childish. I won't bother arguing with you.
LPine is the new Conna lol

That sums up my views.
No, you can not use it as you wish. I can't goto the gamemodes section, take a whole gamemode because it isn't liscenced and then re-release it as my own name.
And even if you could, it doesn't mean that you should; that's a very fast way to lose respect on these forums.
And; by the way, how do you know it doesn't have a GPL licence on it? Everything I write it licenced. So unless you wanna lose respect fastfor being know as a theif (Been there done that, except I didn't actually steal anything), then I suggest you remove it.
Says Mr."I may steal your code" :raise:
It was a joke at the time. Jesus Hunts, you pop out of nowhere sometimes.
It was a joke at the time. Jesus Hunts, you pop out of nowhere sometimes.
He sure does, He's a little too good at it I think. :v:
Also, Finally a Model Manipulator with out Hm... oh... fuck...
I do not fail at spelling.
Edit:
I did not copy that segment from you so stop bitching.
Both of you. STOP YOUR FUCKING BITCHING.
Conna is fucking right.
I tested this. It does not FUCKING WORK. People don't like it when you directly port and release their / parts of their code.
How much harm would it do - adding Conna to credits, out of respect for his wish?
Like Ja said. How much fucking bitching is just gonna take? None. If you just fucking add it without bitching.
By the way, Conna. Can you Please help me and erik with the admin secure for the room i was talking about?
If he apologises for flaming and saying that I stole "his stool" I will. Note that I used the target finder STool as my base.
If he apologises for saying that you stole his stool, he and you are acknowledging that you didn't take any of it. Yet you say you will put him in the credits if he does so. Why?
This is very, very really likely to cause crashes.
I know, but someone requested it so I made it.
It was a joke at the time. Jesus Hunts, you pop out of nowhere sometimes.
Just for you ;)
I couldn't resist.
This mod is pretty handy. :)
Besides the already presented facts about this piece of work I felt like asking...
Has anyone else noticed that LPine gives himself Lua King ratings? Or is the account LuaPineapple completely unrelated?
[sarcasm/]
Just asking since it's the top amount of lua ratings on his account. :v:

It is just 2 lines of code like your steal.
I did not "steal" his shit, the scripts on the forum are free to be used as you wish as long as a licence is not presented and he did not even say the word license in his thread.
(User was banned for this post (Reason: You're being an asshole (in post "" by garry)))
Code without a license is still copyrighted... and the only legal distribution license for such code would be this one:
Edit:
Copyright (c) <year> <copyright holders>
Permission is not granted, and is explicitly disallowed, regardless of
fees or charge, to any person obtaining a copy of this software and
associated documentation files (the "Software"), to use it in any
manner, including without limitation the rights to use, copy, modify,
merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the Software.
Oh come on.
Just don't port/steal/copy code without permission. End of story?
