If animations are bugged have you considered replacing NPC's with props, perhaps? Like a bulletin board or something.. I'd appreciate something similar to the darkrp style of job selection (as it's slightly simpler than running across town to an NPC), but without the constant access to it that is found in darkrp. Maybe something to do on my own. :v:
Thats actually a cool idea. Do you mean like having job boards posted around the map?
Yes, or one board near the PD where you can scroll across all the different jobs. :v:
The problem is that the job system isnt the same as DarkRP, there is a fixed amount of jobs, thats why there are NPCs for the jobs. A job board would be perfect for DarkRP or a gamemode with dynamic jobs.
Why wouldn't it work? There are about 4 jobs or so, post them on the board with 0/X and a "Select job" or "apply for job".. It beats running to the NPC's in my opinion..
Ill open a ticket for it. Would this remove the NPCs?
Ill open a ticket for it. Would this remove the NPCs?
Oh god don't remove NPCs this will end up being more like darkrp. There's already too many DarkRP servers.. this is something different, should keep it that way ;)
The problem is, the way my gamemode works, there are no vendor NPCs since you are supposed to make your own stuff, so removing the NPCs would mean there are no NPCs except for vehicles and realtors (And dodgy ATMs :v:)
Well there are 2 options I'm willing to consider:
1. Reanimate the models for NPCs. This will mean that there will be essentially 2 of each of the models (1 for the player and 1 for the NPC). I dont like this idea since its a lot of work, theres duplicates of models and I'm lazy (and also you cant have 1 model that works with NPCs AND players).
2. Remove job NPCs and add in "job boards".

Perhaps instead of applying using the job boards, there are job specific board that hold information about it such as; if they are "hiring" or not, job specific duties that could change throughout the playtime, and general information. You would still "apply" for a job using the npcs

Just set the NPC model to the player model and set the activity to match the player's animations.
Just set the NPC model to the player model and set the activity to match the player's animations.
Currently the NPCs are set to use the player models. I never really got into playing with NPCs so uh.. reckon you could give me a nudge in the right direction please?
Just in case you didn't know, the fire_ent effect doesn't have a ParticleEmitter defined. It's trying to work off 'Emitter' which isn't created in the code. Easy fix though.
Ehhh there should be a ParticleEmitter defined in cl_init last I remember. Ill look into it.

Ok I fixed that issue, the changes are now on the repo.
Excellent work Gambit, I'll be hopping on that test server later today Sam ;)

Hehe no problem :p
I think the job board / menu brings back that darkrp feel.
It's a lot nicer to have to travel distances instead of just switching jobs on the spot

Its not really DarkRP-like (or its not really supposed to be at least). Just as a proof of concept there are money printers and the ability to drop cash.
Also, in the case that noone has noticed, there are rocks that you can mine :l
I knooow :P, i can tell its not meant to be like darkrp because of the NPC's and realism that is being created. Adding the job board would remove the SSRP feel

I have no idea what SSRP is but i think adding in job boards that display the availability of jobs then going to the NPC to apply for the job is a good idea, I just need to fix up the damn animations D:
Semi serious roleplay,
Suppose you could just make a billboard with 3d2d over it

Thats the idea.
"He (G4MB!T) caused a whole hoo har, like 1-2 years ago. He made gamemodes and impregnated them with scripts that enabled remote access. He's stolen gamemodes, had a mass hoo har about stealing perp. DDoSing people. Haha he's a fucking troll..."
So basically a fellow developer had been complaining about DarkRP being broken and how there was a need for a better RP game mode and I saw this and gave him a link... that was his response... care to explain?
Stop trying to create drama, yes the gamemode has some code from other gamemodes but you dont need to make public shit over it.
Just let him get on with developing the gamemode.
I can draw up a quick idea for the job board if you want?
Not trying to create a 'shit storm' but this is related to this thread for two reasons.
a. It is similar in many aspects to PERP
b. He is apparently known for putting back door code into his GameModes
I personally wouldn't download this having been told that due to
a. People who host code similar to PERP tend to get DDoSed quite a lot
b. The creator has a past reputation for implementing back doors...
This might be baseless but I would rather be safe than sorry and I felt that others should know what this gamemode might entail before downloading it... I know I would.

Nobody cares whether you download it or not. Unless you can find backdoors in his code, there's no reason to for us to listen to you.
Having in game menu's for job makes the rp worse in a sense, people just switch to cop no matter where they are and abuse it etc..
As for "backdoors" the gamemode is clear of the common ones.
He is an admin in the sql file though but thats got all the data from when he was testing the server out.
Probably not even intended.
-snip-
on your phpmyadmin import the sql file and then you can set the host and all that for the database inside of init.lua.
SQL Format is like this for init.lua
PGRP.Database = Database("Database host", "Database username", "Database passowrd", "database name", port);
-snip-
gambit_roleplay is the database's name i believe.
you can just use my database as its a free one, not being used for anything else important
gamemode: PGRP.Database = Database("sql2.freemysqlhosting.net", "sql250899", "hI2%mV3%", "sql250899", 3306);
admin:GA.Database = Database("sql2.freemysqlhosting.net", "sql250899", "hI2%mV3%", "sql250899", 3306);
Surely anyone could just use that now?
Yeah, its not being used for a real server just for test purposes.
If i hosted it, i would never give my real sql info out :P
