( I'm not sure if the checkered scrollbars is a problem with me or everyone )
Everyone experiences this problem and it is not the easiest bug in the world to fix.
Needs a folder tree view on the left, like GCFScape does. Would make it much easier to use.
Wow. Amazing this is. And this is all ingame?
Yep. All Derma, too =)
very nice piece here, have a lua king!
Excellent, I can see this being very useful for finding sounds to use with wired sound emitters and getting the exact scene names of VCDs without having to alt+tab.
oh man I am going to be using sound emitters so much now
I. Love. This.
Do all the file directories have copy to clipboard options like the spawnicons? If so awesomely useful :D
Any idea when the next version will be out? :D
Edit:
I plaid around with it for a while today. Here's a few things I found.

Scroll bar, your mouse has to stay on the bar which is kinda small

When you open any type of file and open another, those windows stay there. Add an option to keep open windows because I always end up having 58268926349 windows open that I had to close

Text viewer doesn't have tabbed viewing so it's kinda hard to read

I wasn't able to view models. I got some error. I'll post in a few.
Other than what's listed, I love it!
Alright, another quick progress report:

- Added a file tree as suggested by Huntskikbut on the left
- Settings window implemented
- Fixed scroll bar madness for text viewer
And previously mentioned features:
- Find in Files added
- Image viewer
And stuff I hope to finish before release of v2:
- Help window
- Extended material viewer
- Fixed address bar problems
Update 2:
So no-one's posted since the last update, so I'll just put it here in this post.

- Fixed address bar problems
- Filter presets / examples / history
- Folder history
Pimpage!!!
This totally kicks ass. Make it so you can easily coppy the file with its extension to your clipboard so you can minimize your game and paste it in your code.
Great updates dude!
I don't suppose it'd be hard to add a function to allow you to open DEM files, right?
Great job, by the way! :)

Err, copy the whole file or just the location of the file?
Right now, you can right click on any file and do "Copy to Clipboard", just like in the spawn menu. If you're referring to copying the file itself, that won't work on anything other than text files - file.Read and file.Write only work on text files.
Awesome!
I think i have some suggestions for improvements though.
A way to automatically close open sound players when a new one is opened.
And an option/console command that can turn the "beep" sound off, like when opening sounds so you can hear the sounds more clear.
Progress Update #3 - 6/26/08 5:15PM MDT
Alrighty, so I've been working on making the browser more compatible with Derma ( so it draws right with all the skins and such ). The major result of this is that the Text Viewer now fits into the skins, but I also re-arranged a lot of the other panels and put options into DPanelLists ( which are very handy ).
The following screenshots are taken with Jippiex2k's Vista Skin

The new home window ( this may still change ).

Improved map change dialog.

Vastly improved properties dialog.

Also vastly improved sound player dialog.

And of course, the text viewer, which you will notice now has a scrollbar that fits in ( as well as the scheming of the textbox itself ).
I also added a settings window, as per request:

There are already a handful of settings I've implemented, and they automatically save/load and such as you'd expect.
So, this brings the changelist to:
- Added find in files
- Added options
- Added help window ( contingent )
- Added presets / history for locations and filters
- Folder tree on the left
- Vastly improved derma compatibility
- Scrollbar for textviewer fully implemented
And, these are the things I want to finish:
- Improved material viewer
- Model viewer
- Help window ( contingent )
The best ETA I can give on this at the moment is by the end of Friday, but I'm not promising anything :)
Let me know what you guys think or of any suggestions. ( please ! )
Very very sexy, can you slip in a font browser too?

I pray that is your derma skin... :(

As for a font browser.. I'll see what I can do, but are you talking about something that looks at .ttf files, or something that looks through all the registered fonts in the game at runtime? 'Cause that would be something different. Not a bad idea either way, though.
Both?
Both?
Hmm, I'll see what I can do.
In the meantime, just a small update. I implemented and currently have working a resizeable frame for the browser window and text viewer ( these are the only two that really need it, really ).

Another small update:
Everyone makes mistakes...

Message boxes and pop-up errors added.
Another Update: June 27th, 2008
So I finished refining the text reader. You can now turn on/off word wrapping and line numbers. The scrollbar has also been fixed to work more as expected ( though it still isn't perfect ). I also added the horizontal scrollbar ( to support word wrapping off ).
Image one: The text reader

Image two: Same, but with word wrap turned off

Image three: Same, but word wrap on and without line numbers:

So now, all that's left to do is:
- A help window ( shouldn't take long )
- Refined material viewer ( last big part )
- Model Viewer ( shouldn't take long )
Update: June 27th, 2008 - 7:00PM MDT
Material viewer is almost finished. Here's what it looks like:

Right now, I'm still shooting for a release tonight, but it is possible that it may slip over to tomorrow morning.
Update: June 28th, 2008
Ok, so I finished everything up; I didn't add a few things because I've run over my estimated finish date ( I said I was going to get it out Friday evening and it's Saturday afternoon already ). The following features didn't quite make it:
- Help
- Model Viewer
These will be in the 2.1 release =)
So I'm writing the changelog and readme right now, and should have it uploaded within the next 15 minutes.
Alrighty, version 2.0 has been released!

[Change] Text viewer greatly improved:

Still no font viewer.
I'll write my own! If you want you can add it to the main program latter.
Now I have an easy method of mic spamming by simply opening up my sound files!
Thanks!
Very, very useful. One of the best gadgets I've ever seen released for Gmod.
Have a LUA king.
Amazing script here. :)
Make the model viewing using DModelPanel and add sprite viewing with DSprite. Then it will be complete. :D
When I go into settings and try to check/uncheck the tick boxes, I get a yellow-texed lua error. I will try to copy it down when I play GMod again
Is it the stack overflow error? I'm not entirely sure what's happening there :(
Edit : My right hand is in a cast because of a bike accident, likely for at least a week. Don't expect any updates too soon :(
Edit 2: Whoo, my news finally got posted on garrysmod.com! Hooray.
Yeah it's stack overflow:science:
Awesome work exitus, downloading.
