The only problem with something like that (well, there's actually two) is that it can only (as far as I know) read and write files outside of the .gcf files, thereby reducing its usefulness.
The second problem (though I'm not sure how prevalent this would be) is that loading up a whole bunch of people with raw i/o, then having them run off to some random servers, is that malicious server operators could take advantage of the unprotected nature of raw i/o. If I did add something like that, I would definitely be adding some security measures to prevent this kind of stuff from happening before it starts.
So, find me a raw i/o dll that supports the steam files and that I can modify the source of, and I'll get you full I/O :)
Awesome. I loved v1, and I downloaded v2. Now to try it out! :D
Good job man, good job. Makes finding sounds for your contraptions a hell of a lot easier.
Really awesome! I hate browsing the gcfs.
Also, a suggestion: I guess you could spawn the models but since you have a material viewer, how about a model viewer right in the gui? It would be awesome!

Yeah, as suggested I do plan on adding a model and sprite viewer. Unfortunately, however, half of my right hand is in a cast ( the fingers specifically used for doing brackets, parenthesis, etc ). So the next release will probably be a while.
It will probably also not feature as large of a feature set change as 2.0 did from 1.0; it'll just be a 2.1 release, with bugfixes and the aforementioned model/sprite viewer. ( and maybe some other stuff ;) )
I have a question:
So lets say I want to put some info on the game (Console commands, Server lists, Tutorials, Etc.). Could I make a folder in my Garrysmod/Garrysmod folder called "Notes", put my .txt documents in there and read them in game?
Sorry for the massive bump...
yes you could
Cool
I will rarely use this but for those one off blue moon occasions, it is definitely getting a download. Thank you.
WOW. That is all I can say. Awesome job.
Sorry for the bump but it isn't a pointless one.
Could you make it support models by using a DmodelPanel and getting all its animations etc then you could browse models and it could be used as an animation viewer without opening hammer!
This tool looks very useful and I would love to try it, but whenever I use the browser_open command in my console it gives me the unknown command message. I have tried the version 1 and 2 both of them are this way. I put the rBrowser folder in my addons as the read me says and I can,t figure out what I,m doing wrong. Can anyone give me any suggestions of what to do differently.
EDIT: ah I seem to have fixed it , but my material viewer does not work. Good anyways nice work
*old bump*
are you still working on this project?
need make it default browser!!, not that shitty garry stuff
Oh hey, I finally found this.

No I installed it correctly. I even uninstalled/reinstalled it. I know someone else fixed this but I don't know how...

It's browser_open
Read the readme.
Still one of the best addons out there. I use it all the time for sounds and materials.
1.5 years after release and it still works flawlessly? Can someone confirm?
I confirm, I used it to browse some sound files. Quite amazing that this still works.
Well it does't work 100% flawlessly but if there's still interest I suppose I can fix a few things up, maybe add a few things ( some of which I had originally intended to add anyways, like a model viewer ).
I am interested, this is a very useful addon. if you make a model viewer, could you make it show attachment points, like in the source SDK model viewer?
I would love to see more added to this already great addon. @CowThing thanks XD my friend was telling me its open_browser. lol
