The bass module being shipped with gmod would sure help this contest.
wait did he finally do this or are you saying it would be nice
would
I managed to make something playable, hooray! Timing is a bit off, aesthetics need a lot of work, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to calculate/draw bezier curves for the sliders. If anyone knows of a way to do so, it would be greatly appreciated if you gave me a few pointers or seven.
Decided to do some lua made holdtypes
is he dancing?
is he dancing?
Was trying to make a holdtype for a guitar :/
Was trying to make a holdtype for a guitar :/
well it's hard to see that without a guitar in his hand ;)
would be amazing if you could add a fixed viewpoint :v:
As of now you can just hold down your context menu button and click from there. Once I actually throw this together as a gamemode, you'll most likely get an option to choose which way to play.
well it's hard to see that without a guitar in his hand ;)
Well there isn't a decent Bass Guitar model anywhere. Besides I'll be needing an Roland AX-7 which is gonna be a bitch to find.
Can the contest end on September 21st or something. I know a lot of people like me don't have a whole bunch of time between now and September 11th.

Garry Channel 13... YESSSSS. YESSSSSSSSSSS. ...but that's if anyone would try to make it...
I'll extend to the 20th.
Someone needs to make this a reality:
Tempting... Ill have to look in to making lua based animations.
I thought it would be nice to be able to read the notes from a midi file, then make a gamemode using those... Turns out it was more work than I thought, and it still sounds pretty bad :P Ignore the crackling sound after every note, that's just the recording Might be better if I get the full range of sounds, and sounds for more instruments, though. For now I'm just borrowing notes from gmod tower's piano, which only covers 5 octaves of the 11 midi uses Well, now it's working to a standard that you can sort of make out the song, I think I'll just get working on the actual gamemode now, and refine this later :P
I don't like the theme >.>
I don't like the theme >.>
God, whenever I see that ">.>" I just wanna puke.
I don't like the theme >.>
You may not, but we have rhythm in our hearts. And to the entrants, good luck, even if you don't win, you have still created a fantastic gamemode. I have always wanted to see more music/rhythm modes in GMod.
If anyone is trying to make a "custom" gamemode that may require actual maps to accustom the gamemode itself, I would be glad to whip some up if anyone is serious about developing something. To get an idea of things I can make: [img_thumb]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/650996245847511117/3D4170890C288426C41C280B419AC10E3A1AAC75/1024x576.resizedimage[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/648745092168714456/38849E1228EE27FA67339FF5794C510760FF5904/1024x576.resizedimage[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/14334887/facepunch_map_pimpage/1.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/576669726762035709/72DF7AD706A26D23CFCFA15629C092D168BF28BF/[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/594697633897651240/E7F70A9C15C540145AB1EA2F18943A603A2DD374/[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/594697633897652820/5B1F9354A41FB3BECBF540E573D1CC1D0B2F0002/[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/595823984022123976/6143B2989AD2F154002D4ADFD950E9B8B5D8FE88/[/img_thumb] Again, only people that are actually planning to develop something that will be completed/know what they're doing. Don't care about the prize, just want to make something that might actually be good.
I'm not sure whether to carry on with this or think of a new idea. It's a complete rip of http://labs.dinahmoe.com/plink/ really. I'd have to make new sounds etc and I don't have the facility to do that. It's completely set up to work for multiplayer like the original too. [vid]http://puu.sh/1017e[/vid] (mouseover it)

I think it's a fantastic idea and you should most definitely continue working on this.

I made a little flow chart while brain storming. Maybe it can help someone out? I don't know if I'm going to enter anything yet or not, but this helped get my brain juices flowing. A better brainstorm whould have been what you can do with music and how you can involve it then think what you can use from gmod to make it ( i mean what do you have and what do you need) then bring all informations together to get new ideas or something. Anyhow it would be good if you enter to have more enemies/ gamemodes :D Honestly i don't really understand some arrows from your chart like the one going from "Non-generated Music" to "Level generated by user(s)" (for example)

The ideas I have floating around in my head abide by this chart, but I guess I could approach from a different angle if they don't work out. Also, by "non-generated music" I meant like actual songs by real artists. The arrow path(s) you were talking about would be for games such as osu or Guitar Hero where there is a definite song used and the level is generated by a human outside of the game or if you follow the path to ingame user level generation it would be a game where somehow one or more of the players generates the level for others to play on (not sure how that would work...).
Level generated by music is perfectly plausible, just get some numbers using gm_bass and throw them together somehow, I literally just took the fft2048 table and averaged across it and managed to get somewhere. It doesn't matter how, just have something change with the music. [editline]30th August 2012[/editline] The best place to start is just to see what numbers gm_bass can give you and how they change with the music, play a song with it and print its output in a think hook or high frequency timer, then you can see what scale of numbers you're working with and how they change with the music.
I thought we couldn't use gm_bass? EDIT: And I also maybe don't know how to use it :v:
You can use it for a song, get the data it outputs, and just use the data.
You can use it for a song, get the data it outputs, and just use the data.
That's a good idea. Now only if I could figure out how to install it...
