This cannot die!
I don't want it to. In fact, I want to help revive this. If someone can post the scripts for it, then maybe someone else can pick up the project. I have been trying to get planet models from Super Mario Galaxy, because I want to try a few things with this. New player hull commands should help with the player's view position while on undersides of planets and I am sure we have the right binds now to make our own player movement/edit friction, so it is entirely possible.
Uploading what I have. \/LINK\/ http://hiddenmyst.pap3rback.com/Uploads/uu.7z /\LINK/\
It's not the scripting side that makes this impossible, it's that the engine simply crashes on any sphere-based maps.
Could you cut the sphere into quarters to spread the load across several geometric objects instead of one? Oops didn't notice it was already in quarters. Might have to go with the idea of making the sphere a model.
Uploading what I have.
Oh cool, I got a similar idea a few months ago, without knowing this already existed, but couldn't figure out how to deal with players, and also make props sleep properly. This will certainly come in handy, thanks, I certainly won't forget to credit you guys if I re-use some of your code.
It's not the scripting side that makes this impossible, it's that the engine simply crashes on any sphere-based maps.
I used a model sphere on my map that I made. Works just the same as a disp sphere, but doesn't crash.
Men, contact Spacebuild mappers and coders now. THIS MUST BE INCORPORATED! [editline]12:13PM[/editline] This is possibly the most important breakthrough in SB history!

If they added this to SB, I will be ashamed.
Pretty sure we invented this in Gmod 9, way before Spacebuild. If they added this to SB, I will be ashamed.
Didn't think it ever actually got anywhere in gmod 9. I watched it for a bit, I don't know what happened to it.
as far as dealing with players walking around a sphere, look at the new spiderman mod. it has players sticking to any surface that's greater than 45 degrees, and displays them correctly.
Didn't think it ever actually got anywhere in gmod 9. I watched it for a bit, I don't know what happened to it.
It had point-based gravity with falloff distances. No view control.
I'v been following this for a while now and it seems that instead of brushes for the planets models would be better.
Sorry for the bump, but I have figured out how to make brush based spheres without crashing the engine! :buddy: Notice the lightmap shadows, which aren't possible on models. .... Now, that we have the sphere-crashing problem out of the way, now we need to fix the sliding players bug...
Haha that looks awesome!
The planets size makes me think this should be like Dyson.
LOL it does remind me of dyson, great job on the planet to
This combined with SB3 would be the most awesome thing EVER!!!
Bump?
This combined with SB3 would be the most awesome thing EVER!!!
Umm no. This isn't meant to have ridiculous life support systems and whatnot.

Perhaps compile the map with a brush sphere then replace it with a model so the lightmaps are the same but its a model. Probably impossible but thats just a stab at it.
I am curious as to your methods for that sphere.
I'll give you 3 hints. 1. 3ds Max 2. Geosphere 3. VMF export plugin
I'd prefer to just make a sphere in Max then bake a lightmap onto that. I don't care about in-game shadows not being projected onto it. [editline]01:10PM[/editline] All we need is for someone to continue the coding where Megiddo left off. Preferable without stupid spacebuild and life support.
Unfortunately, I've moved onto other projects now and this would take too much time for me to justify going back to it. Excellent job on figuring out how to get around the Source engine bugs. Anyone can feel free to use whatever code of mine they feel is useful.

I'd like to know how you guys are planning to build stuff on a tiny sphere.
I'd like to know how you guys are planning to build stuff on a tiny sphere.
How do people build stuff on a tiny circle in SB?
How do people build stuff on a tiny circle in SB?
We don't. Generally we just build a ship to get off of the tiny circle and on to another one, or build in space.
One of the ideas from back in Gmod 9 was that you could RP across the universe.
