I haven't, but I remember it working fine in the beta. I'll give it a test some time.
I'm testing it too. Just gotta clean out these spiderwebs out of my TortiseSVN
I've not tried... has anyone attempted to run this gamemode since the update? Let's hope Megiddo doesn't have to rewrite it for yet a 3rd time. :)
who knows? Don't forget that gmod is now based on the orange box engine :)
who knows? Don't forget that gmod is now based on the orange box engine :)
Ooh! Use Portal to our advantage! They've practically scripted walking around this way and that way and upside down (I think...)
How do I get this to work? I svned the ULX along with the ULib and put them in my addons? and It's still not there! Please help I went onto the site and it tells me to copy the highest folder with the info.txt and that's the actual ULX ans ULib folders themselves! Help my this looks so sick! Also I tried to update the link on the main thread page (this one) in a folder called UU in my addons but nothing happened. Does any of this work? HELP ME!
*sigh* Funnymonk. Go back and read all of the first post of this thread. Explanation and install instruction are there. Though by Ulysses Team main developer, Megiddo, it has _nothing_ to do with an addon, very little to do with ULib library, and nothing to do with ULX admin mod. This is a gamemode project Megiddo has been working on (and rewriting) since Gmod9 got Lua.
Download is available only on SVN at this point. Please do not redistribute the files on SVN via any other method. We will hunt you down and poke you until you remove it. URL for SVN: svn://ulyssesmod.net/Universe/ Username: anonsvn Pass: anonsvn Extract the gamemode zip to garrysmod/gamemodes and the map to garrysmod/maps.
What I do is a make a folder called UU in my gamemodes folder and use the svn checkout into that folder then I open the map .zip s and put those in my maps, but I cannot find the gamemode .zip and it won't show up in Gmod so I'm stuck because the instructions are kinda vague? Sorry to be a nusance but I can't figure this out by myself :(
SVN hasn't been updated in a while :(
Sorry to bump, but is there any videos on this?
Ooh! Use Portal to our advantage! They've practically scripted walking around this way and that way and upside down (I think...)
I don't recall ever walking on the ceiling. Didn't LS or something have gravity plating?
I've not tried... has anyone attempted to run this gamemode since the update? Let's hope Megiddo doesn't have to rewrite it for yet a 3rd time. :)
Just tried tonight and I get a CTD during loading. It could be a conflict with an addon, but I doubt it. Since the SVN hasn't been updated since November 2007 It's no wonder it doesn't work after the update. *sigh* I remember once upon a time being able to play garrysmod without a heap of Lua errors. This just puts the icing on the cake... Edit: Since this has been in development since Gmod 9... and it's only on SVN revision 4, can we ever realistically expect this to ever be completed?
It has only been on SVN for a very short time relative to its overall development lifetime.
I don't recall ever walking on the ceiling. Didn't LS or something have gravity plating?
When you flip over while going through a portal. Though you probably can't walk on the ceiling, it DOES change your model's orientation to look like you are. As for Spacebuild, it's always been flat. No walking on ceilings. No view reorientation. You walk on the floor. And if your ship rolls when you're standing, then you'll end up on the ceiling, still orientated on the X axis of the map. Gravity plating just pulls you down on the X axis when you're standing/floating over it.
Wow, now just add this, and we have Prey in gmod! :wooow:
Prey-like Gravity on a Spacemap Planet? That would be awesome!
Prey-like Gravity on a Spacemap Planet? That would be awesome!
Yep, that's what this gamemode is aiming at but at the moment the development seems to have slowed to a halt. Megiddo's probably busy in real life. :( If there was an easy way to turn players feet (and the views 'down' direction) point at the local source of gravity, then it would have been done months ago. :sigh:
Yeah looks like development is stuck. There hasn't been an SVN revision since last time I posted - on the 29th of January. I'd at least think Megiddo would at least make it run under the Gmod 2007 update.
Hmm, I _think_ it does run on current gmod version? Only problem I had last time I tried it was that the sphere map had no lighting and an invisible skybox which causes all kinds of psychedelic graphics garbage to run across the screen. :hmm:
Would this be like super mario galaxy or something? I seem to have got addicted to walking around planets aimlessly. Also sorry if I bumped a 5 day old thread.
5-day bump? That's nothing! Look at the previous posts' dates... :v: Anyhow, we - must - not - let - this - thread - die! :eng101:
*Gives CPR to the thread* Megiddo! BREATH! *Continues CPR* NO! *Looks at watch* Time of death... "Valve Time" We need an update of some kind... anything... just toss us a rotten apple core... anything...
Maybe I'll just post "Don't Die!!" every few days...
I tried running this and my Gmod just crashed out, maybe I installed it wrong, maybe it just doesn't work with the latest update. any ideas?
Wow, the thread's still here. I thought it got deleted by the FP archiver. Anyways, still alive. Came up with more ideas today to implement in the next couple days. Thanks for your patience! Summer's coming soon and I'll probably have a lot more time then.
I remember when you were experimenting with this stuff back in Gmod 9. I guess it's now made possible to go "upsidedown" thanks to portals implementation into the source engine. Nice, keep up the good work.
I remember when you were experimenting with this stuff back in Gmod 9. I guess it's now made possible to go "upsidedown" thanks to portals implementation into the source engine. Nice, keep up the good work.
Only the portal models are added, the code of portal is not.
Only the portal models are added, the code of portal is not.
Roger that. Meg's code is all lua. The map has to include a special entity that tells the lua where to start enabling the gravity. That special entity is custom. I forget exactly where it even says that. (It's in the first post or readme (or both)). Edit: See first post "instructions for mappers". It explains how Meg's code knows to start enabling the code involved for walking upside down.
Sorry to bump, but this is the one gamemode I'm most looking forward to. Any idea if it is even still in development or if it has been abandoned? Maybeeee release date? :D
Megiddo just hit summer break and started his intern job which means he'll have more time at night and on weekends. As he (and I) have said a few times, this baby is one of his slowest growers. It's still in development, but has been on the back burners for a while. Perhaps now he'll find time to work on it some more. I too have been looking forward to it since he first invited me to a test map. As for release date, uh, no, I'm betting even Megiddo would say no idea. I believe he mentioned he was also having trouble getting his mapper to commit (who also is busy in real life)
Megiddo can you change the svn so people can just extract it right to their GMod folder. It seems lots of people are having problems, including me.
Is it possible (at this point) to have more than one working planet in the map? And is this going to be anyway like Spacebuild in it's final state? (lifesupport? flying between planets in self-build ships?)
