I want to see some updates here because this gamemode can be awesome
I tried running this and my Gmod just crashed out, maybe I installed it wrong, maybe it just doesn't work with the latest update. any ideas?
Yeah me too, I just don't get where to put it in...
(Last line of the first post...)
Extract the gamemode zip to garrysmod/gamemodes and the map to garrysmod/maps.
I'm just guessing here but maybe, just maybe, the map goes in the gmod/maps folder and the gamemode goes in the gmod/gamemodes folder? :v:
RE-EDIT: I put trunk and tag and branches in the gamemode folder so that runs now, but the maps still don't work.
Looking at the svn repository it seems the maps (looks like there's two versions) are packed. You need to get it, then unpack with something that understands 7z.
Regarding the gamemode, it seems you need to make a appropriately named folder inside your Gamemodes folder (like UlyssesUniverse) and then checkout the Trunk folder into that folder. You don't need Branches or Tags folders.
Use WinRar or 7Zip to open .7z
I'm not that braindead... :( I know how to unzip a .7z into my maps folder, which I did. The problem is that when I start a game on one of the sphere maps it crashes on the last loading step no matter what gamemode I use. Initializing whatever.
The maps were compiled in the old engine. Like many other pre-new-engine maps, they crash out.
Megiddo has had trouble getting his mapper to re-do or make new ones.
Megiddo, please can you tell me with what code you let someone be upside down?
I tried it with seteyepos but I keep ending with just looking at the right...
Is this still alive? I want an update.
My concept of this game mode
Remove gravity drag and air resistance.
Introduce gravity based on the middle of a planet
Change view angles. (see crysis in no gravity)
Keep the mod separate from spacebuild and etc.
Done.
Then again, I bet this is all really hard, I have no skill in lua so lol. Just sharing my ideas.
EDIT: is nobody working on this anymore ? :(
This is Megiddo's project. I'm guessing he's got other projects and/or real life stuff going on keeping him from this projects. (Of course, that's IF he's still willing do continue this project...) :)

that's what it do .. or used to do
now its only gravity and separated form sb
This looks interesting. I can't wait to test it out.
I might add this (meaning the idea of walking around upside down) to AU: Planetfall, depending on what direction we go (but it won't be a sphere).
Wow, I nearly forgot about this until today. Has any progress been made over the summer?
This is easily the most interesting mod I've seen for Garry's Mod (assuming it hasn't died :/)
Edit: I hope this mod hasn't died. That would be very unfortunate.
And how do you get the SVN to work with Tortoise SVN? I cannot find a place to enter a usuername and password (and I got it to work just fine with Wiremod).

Anyhow, we - must - not - let - this - thread - die! :eng101:
Agree!
*Gives CPR to the thread*
Megiddo! BREATH!
*Continues CPR*
NO!
*Looks at watch*
Time of death... "Valve Time"
You tied a string with a bell on the end of Megiddo's finger before burial right? I'd hate to open up the casket and find scratch marks all over the inside... :monocle:
Edit:
Oh, wait, I was reading page 5... just realized on this page Megiddo is still with us! :)

he said that four months ago.

Somebody should really get him to make an official statement as to weather or not this mod is still alive...

It being dead is kind of implied by his absence.
Stupid question maybe, but am I to understand that you will be able to walk on a spherical planet, and not a flat surface with a spherical atmosphere?
This is gonna be freakin sweeeet
Yes, you are correct. The test planet is/was spherical and the gravity was towards the center of the planet. The players feet always point towards the center but walking still was not possible all round the planet.
I'm not sure if this still works after gmod updates. The test sphere map had graphical issues for me last time I tested but when the test version was released it looken just fine. Only issue with the map being too small (high orbits not possible since stuff hits the edges of the map. :D

Sounds great! So the planets move on orbits? Wow
No, there's only ONE (stationary) planet at the center of the map and the map isn't big enough to put props into high orbit.
Source engine would have a hard time keeping things stationary on a moving planet, so that would take some seriously wicked coding to make the planet appear stationary to Source and all the props on the planet...
Anyways, even this (walking around spherical planets) is proving to be near impossible, so let's just wait for that first. ;)
I fast read the topic, and I'm wondering if we are actually able to make planetes with relief like montaine, river etc...
It _should_ be possible, why not? The test map has only the basic sphere.
Although...
Maybe there's problem in Source or Hammer with trying to do perfect spheres or something. Can't remember.
EDIT: If someone would make a new version of the test map with a skybox (I think the original map doesn't have a skybox, thus the rendering glitches) and more space around the planet, I'd be much obliged. :)
huuum, I don't want to make trouble but the download links are dead and same for the svn, I can't have it!

Yeah, I'm having the same problem... Maybe I should PM Megiddo about this.
Wow, I have completely forgotten about this thread. :O I'm not 100% sure what Megiddo's current status is with this project, but I do know this: The reason the sphere maps are crashing is due to a problem with the orange box engine handling the physics on a ton of displacement maps used to make the sphere. And because of the crashing, Megiddo hasn't really had a very good test map. I've compiled a few maps and found that the problem is resolved when disabling prop physics on the spheres-- but that doesn't help us any. As for the SVN being down-- (is it still down?) Megiddo's servers were having some problems, he has now switched over to a new server, and he also changed a few things with the SVN. I'm going to get a hold of Megiddo as soon as I can and find out some more info.
Stickly Man! Contacted VALVe about the engine bug with planets, they told us that they do not offer support on their 'free' tools.
Sorry guys, unless someone knows of another way to do the planets, the Source engine simply cannot handle this gamemode.
