As far as I can tell it's not an issue with my shared data transfer system, but it might be a problem with Garry's EntityVar system. I'll be doing some more testing to make sure that is the cause.

If I could throw in a feature request,
An admin command that can spawn/modify a module to become a certain other module
For system modules (power, LS, shield) while looking at a location (spawn) or at a module (modify):
Command_Name type(Power,LS,Shield) Efficiency(0 for all red, 1 for least efficient, 2 for 8/16 efficiency, 3 for perfect efficiency (All based on the current random roll for perfect efficiency) )
Weapons would be similar if not the same command:
Command_Name type(Vesta,Thor, etc.) Efficiency(Mk level 1-10)
I think that this command either spawning or modifying modules will assist in bug testing, and ship balancing because ships can easily be modeled as 100% efficient, 0% efficient (but fully repaired). As well as allowing weapons to be balanced for speed across the same Mk without having to fish for them in the sea of salvage.

Cool and good for him but that makes it hard to actually update Final Frontier as he may often be too busy to mess with it (until he finishes the project or gets a good amount of free time) and approve pull requests or explain issues. If he had someone maybe in second command of the project who isn't busy too often (could come on github maybe once a week for like an hour or so at least) and review things or pull requests or something this might not be such a silent (and kind of dead looking) project.
I will say that we need someone to keep this project more updated.
Hey guys, been a long time since I've checked in on this gamemode but judging by the OP there isn't much dramatically changed.
I'd just like to say that I hope this gamemode gets some good contributors that can help usher it on to a stable gamemode.
Even if the last update has been a few months ago, I am still pretty hyped for this when it eventually gets polished and finished.
I hope the devs are still working on it, I would take it and do some work on it myself but I'd rather let the devs do it :) if we get word that they aren't working on it then I'm gonna take it and start doing some work on it. What I can at least.

Ziks works at Facepunch now, so I wouldn't expect much unless another dev picks it up.
I am trying to update the gamemode. Right now I added a multi-page tab menu so we have more then four tabs in each screen system. The system is hopefully more dynamic but could someone test what I have done and see if I broke anything.

I'm most likely taking parts of your script, Ziks, and applying it to a project of mine. Hopefully I'll have something to show for it in the upcoming month of February.

He is likely working on Facepunch related projects, i.e. that arcade game. I don't think Final Frontier's coming back under Ziks' development.

I'd love to see this gamemode developed further as I've already had loads of fun with it unfinished. I don't have any right to say you can continue with it because it's somebody else's hard work. I hope you can finish it.

Please do. This is one of my favorite games of all time. I played this non stop for the first few weeks it was out. Idon't understand why Ziks hasn't been more public about his plans. There is nothing else out there that fills the hole in my heart that this game left.

A: Final Frontier is our attempt to make a unique and novel Garry's Mod gamemode centred around the teamwork involved in controlling and maintaining a starship doing space things. Each individual on a ship should be allocated to one or more of the tasks required to keep the ship running, and in times of battle to assist the war effort as best they can. There is no strict job / roll system in the game, players should decide where they would be of most use. The players are also not divided into discrete teams, in fact anyone may defect to another ship or mutiny at any time, so crews should be wary of moral and look out for traitorous crewmen.
The main gameplay will probably be PvP ship on ship battles, featuring boarding and looting the losing vessel at the culmination of the conflict. If we are able to, we would like to implement a simple randomised quest system (like ship this cargo to sector X-Y, or kill this player on an enemy vessel for a reward). We will also try and implement automated but unboardable vessels for filler combat for when a server is underpopulated or if the various player ships want to play cooperatively.
[B]Q: Isn't this like a multiplayer FTL: Faster Than Light?[/B]
A: This game is (heavily (blatantly)) inspired by FTL, a game we all enjoyed playing but felt would be improved with multiplayer. Unlike FTL, you control a single crewmember in first-person perspective, and must manually perform the tasks that FTL characters carried out by standing at their posts mashing keyboards. How well you perform your job is entirely dependant on the skill of the player at that task; there will be no in-game skills to grind that make a progress bar move faster, rather the efficiency at which actions are performed depend on the experience of the player in deciding how to carry out the activity.
[B]Q: What tasks will there be in a ship?[/B]
A: Each room in the ship may contain a system, which governs some aspect of the ship as a whole. The planned systems are:

* Shield Control (Implemented)
* Door Control (Implemented)

* Sensors (Mostly Implemented)
* Piloting (Implemented)
* Transporter (Implemented)
* Engineering (Implemented)

Systems are controlled through terminals, which are interfaced through an in-game cursor (think Doom 3). This means other players can see what you are doing, and there are no annoying GUI windows popping up on your screen.

A: We hope to have a few varieties of ships with different sizes, layouts and themes. At the moment (for testing purposes) we just have two ships that have different paint jobs. We might look for a mapper to help with the other ships, as neither of us are any good at Hammer. We won't look for outside help until everything else is done though.

A: To be honest we are only prototyping the project in Garry's Mod, and if we manage to finish it we hope to port it to a more flexible environment.

Does this mean you want to make this gamemode exclusive for your own community servers?
Because I'd love this gamemode to be open for everyone who would like to run a private server or such for friends.
Again I apologise for potentially necroing but I am glad to announce that our community (gizmoandsmudge.co.uk) will soon (roughly 1-2 months) be releasing several servers of this running a forked and nearly fully completed version of this gamemode
