I can only agree with PredGD. This gamemode is going to be good but judging by the gameplay it will be limited and as said above, This gamemode will be on a 2d plane so there is no way of moving down or up on the axis (e.g. to enter planets) as it's impossible. Plus then this would be spacebuild and although its a nice features, it doesn't fit in this gamemode. Other than that I also agree that fighters will probably be a no and drones will probably be a yes. Maybe simply player controlled drones or player controlled turrets.
Don't kill it before release? I don't really get what you're trying to tell me. I'm just saying. By having so high expectations you're only gonna disappoint yourself when the release hits.
And i'm telling you, Let them. people can dream, So why not just let them. They only hurt their selves.
I never told people to stop dreaming or hoping for the gamemode. Just saying that a lot of those hopes will most likely not be in the gamemode once it's done due to the restrictions of the engine and game it is built on.
Just saying that a lot of those hopes will most likely not be in the gamemode once it's done due to the restrictions of the engine and game it is built on.
People should realize this since the beginning, Source Engine is VERY Limited indeed, granted - People can do some damn cool things with the Engine (Hell look at Gmod Tower for Example), if they expected it to be extremely advanced then yes i do agree with you.
Because I hate it when things look barren I have to ask: Will the rooms be detailed? And will they be of higher quality?
Because I hate it when things look barren I have to ask: Will the rooms be detailed? And will they be of higher quality?
If we get an actual mapper involved and not just a programmer who can occasionally get hammer to run sometimes, yes.
It'd be cool if you had multiple gamemodes. Perhaps one gamemode there could be a traitor that has to sabotage the ship, SS13-style.
Then why don't you just play TTT?
Because I hate it when things look barren I have to ask: Will the rooms be detailed? And will they be of higher quality?
What do you mean by detailed and higher quality? I think the textures at the moment make it look sleak and modern.
Then why don't you just play TTT?
It'd be a huge difference between that and TTT. TTT is basically all about killing the others while this would be sabotaging systems of the ship and kill anyone who gets in the way.
It'd be a huge difference between that and TTT. TTT is basically all about killing the others while this would be sabotaging systems of the ship and kill anyone who gets in the way.
Also there is nothing stopping people doing this on their servers but as you've said; this has more of a strategic and RPG way to it as its not as simple as find the saboteur as its unknown as to if the enemy sends one or not as its ultimately a member of their crew they will lose. This becomes especially hard when there's more than 1 ship layout or if the boarded ship has defences in place for this (e.g. console alert in the sensor room.)
What do you mean by detailed and higher quality? I think the textures at the moment make it look sleak and modern.
They look too edgy for me. :V Also by detailed I mean like extra consoles (static) and pipes and all that spacey stuff.

Any more questions for the Q&A vid? We'll probably film it tomorrow.
New video in OP: Room Modules.
Any more questions for the Q&A vid? We'll probably film it tomorrow.
I've been wondering for a while and I'm sure others are too, what kind of weapons will be used for ship defense and where would these be acquired? (Hand held, not the giant spaceship laser cannons, but we'd love to hear about them too!) (Also, just had a crazy thought. Ever think about automatic internal defenses? To ward off unprepared intruders?)
Registered on the forums just to express my excitement for this! It's looking great so far, I really like the amount of detail you're striving for with the systems. There's a lot of potential in a game like this - keep it up and you'll have a classic on your hands! Don't know if it's too late for Q&A questions, but I was wondering if you were planning to add environmental hazards into the mix like FTL? I don't know whether that's possible or not with how you're designing the game, but it would be great to have that extra tension asteroid fields etc brought to encounters in FTL!
Since players can't really see outside, there needs to/should be a ton of visual/sound feedback in other ways to make it seem more involved. Such as loud weapon charging/firing sounds, vibrations, engine sounds, sounds for the charging/discharge of shields/environmental/power, ship movement sounds (louder as going faster). I'm probably going too in-depth in this, but oh well.
Speaking of it being a classic, Garry plans to hold another gamemode competition soon (the likes of Fretta, TTT, Ultimate Chimera hunt etc where TTT won) and I bet this could be a winner! EDIT: Room Modules look very sexy indeed and a good tease at that. I imagine having some sort of welding tool to repair modules to half efficiency or so and you have to have them in a sort of repair cabinet in the engineers bay to repair them fully possibly? Also it would be helpful rather than memorising patterns to have some sort of 2d3d text on the side of the box or even just when you scroll over the object that text appears telling you the model number of the module. Good work so far guys! I can't wait to see a HUD and some more nice features! :D
Oh damn thats how TTT cane to be? Oh hell. Ziks you guys can do it! We believe in you!!!
Yep, whatever gamemode wins the competition gets put into Garry's Mod for default.
I cant wait for this, looks like it would be really fun to play with friends.
Yep, whatever gamemode wins the competition gets put into Garry's Mod for default.
No pressure or anything. [sp]You guys have this, though. Brilliant idea.[/sp]
Awsome! any more Screens? Outside? :D
Your logo looks just like Fringe Division :o This looks awesome guys, I am very excited. Hope to be able to try it soon!
This is just a suggestion that I assume will be a very long way off from being implemented if you choose to but I think you should head a slight way into the roleplay section and add character creation / selection. This way players can be apart of a crew on multiple ships without confusing their characters. That also leads on to another suggestion which is likely if released to be released after the game is out; medals, awards and badges to be awarded by high up personnel.
Just a heads up, I've started a summer job so development may be slow for a few weeks. I'll try and get as much as I can done at weekends though.
We've just recorded the Q&A video, although it's pretty long so we may need to split it into two. Also, we're planning to upload a new video every Friday, but don't hold us to that.
I'd be interested in hosting a 32 slot official server for this if you would allow it. I'd give you guys full access to the server files etc so you can actively develop it. Plus you will be able to use our forums or I may be able to procure a new one specifically for this gamemode.
I could possibly do a Noobice School Of Final Frontier. Enh Enh? I could possibly get the word out about this gamemode and the servers with on 7Grid.net
