I like the idea of this. I find the 7HW difficult to imagine.
I'm really impressed with the idea, but you have to take into consideration the fact that the Combine did not start creating Combine Soldiers until after the 7 Hour War, because that's when they had a steady supply of humans to biologically modify. My guess is that when the Combine invaded, they brought with them whatever synths they had at the time (Striders, Gunships, etc.), maybe even synths made from an alien race that is somewhat similar to humans. Other than that, this gamemode looks like it has good potential. Additional note: Your weapon animations are really sexy. Great job. [editline]9th November 2012[/editline]
They won't win, they would just be delaying the inevitable.
They can win the battles, but they don't win the war.

I want to play it right now! I will wait for beta.. if it will be
This sounds pretty awesome; I'll keep my eye on it.
Added new images for the spawn menu. Menu color depends on the team, for better realization on which team the player is on. Added some new class icons. Also added Loadout, not finished but the concept is there. Ignore the placeholders I have atm.
cool, original idea but in the end it seems just like dm
cool, original idea but in the end it seems just like dm
You know, I am trying to make it more than "just dm". The fact that I am adding different options for both sides should help boost and show that it's more than just a Deathmatch gamemode. Besides I don't have a single objective that would have to be something like "Get most kills" or "Eliminate all enemies". I was well aware from the beginning that this gamemode could turn out to be some shitty DM gamemode, but getting ideas from friends and all actually helped changed that. Hell, it's why I made this thread in the first place. To show that you can have a difference from both perspectives and still balance out. On a side note, added 4:3 monitor friendlyness: [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/42HRX.png[/img_thumb]
Speaking of Battlefield, it kinda looks like the Battlefield HUD now. Not that it doesn't look good, mind you, because it looks pretty sweet. ... Although what looks like a level bar has me concerned. You're not gonna go the "level-up between matches" route, are you? I don't even see how that would work in an unofficial game mod; you'd need some sort of central server to keep the stats. Plus, having already gone through three Call of Duty and two Battlefield games, as well as Brink, Alien Swarm, GoldenEye Wii, Killing Floor, Tribes: Ascend, and the MNC games, I'm kinda worn-out with leveling shooters.

For one thing I won't have weapon unlocks based on your level, cause I actually think that is kinda stupid. But the levels might do some function. Say every 2 levels you get +1% max health and +1% max armor/shield. Besides, when you kill a higher level enemy you would get a bigger bonus XP. Say my level is 10 and the enemy is 75. (75 - 10) * 10, so that's 650 xp boost right there. But I gotta experiment. If it turns out to be too OP, I could just make levels to be bragging rights, but we will see. Also, yeah I got it hooked up to a MySQL server, so it does have some sort of center server. Actually scratch that. Had a better idea for the use of leveling. It will stay in the game, but won't make much of a difference at this time.
So, are you keeping the HEV arms on the weapons? I don't think it is very fitting because Gordon Freeman was in stasis during the 7 hour war.
You do not know how many years I've wanted a gamemode like this its FINALLY here after 4 years of waiting ;_;

The videos have gordon hands on them because the guns have an invisible Gordon Hands skeleton. Inter only added the hands in the video so you dont see flying mags or w/e. Otherwise I can bonemerge it with any model that uses the HL2 skeleton bone. [editline]13th November 2012[/editline] Small update: I'm making it so that you can pretty much aim all the way down and up with the guns. Kinda annoying how the player model is clamped to some point. [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/ilLFx.png[/img_thumb][img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/kX33q.png[/img_thumb]

i came in here expecting another dumb RP concept with op as an ideas guy, but it actually looks like a genuinely unique idea with content to match gj op
Are you going to make it so that Humans can pick up Combine weapons and vice versa? If so, I think you might want to get some kind of c_model system in order. EDIT: I just saw an earlier post regarding this. Nevermind.

Since this takes place during the 7 Hour War, will we be expecting to see some more... "standard" human forces, such as HECU? As the resistance was formed after the war, I think it'd be a little more fitting to see marines trying to fight off an alien invasion rather than rag-tag rebels formed out of thin air.

The humans won't be rebels, but something of the Human Army. Not sure if I will use HECU or not though. Sidenote: I feel accomplished.
I'd still implement some rebel theming, though, like the spraypainted λ on their sleeves/vests and such. After all, this is supposed to be a transitionary period, right?

Either I get someone who is very enthusiastic about working on this or start snooping around for nice quality models and textures.

I prefer to animate more.
But everyone knows that in games, off-world weaponry is much better than on-world weaponry. In Halo's case, plasma fire deals more damage to shields than it does to unshielded targets, where bullet fire does the opposite. Otherwise whenever a Human kills a combine, he is gonna take his gun, cause it's ultimately better for shields, which combine have. And vice versa. And yeah it's not gonna be HECU. HECU is for Hazardous Environments.
Oh, alright then. But for the sake of insisting their inclusion, perhaps some missions could feature them instead of normal human forces? Like in Call of Duty, different maps feature different factions, so it could kinda work like that. Of course, it's just more work and completely unnecessary, but it is always a neat touch to throw in.

But I don't have one.
Try using Blender. It's free, professional, and many many tutorials for everything, everywhere.
Try using Blender. It's free, professional, and many many tutorials for everything, everywhere.
As much as I would like to, I really don't have time to learn modeling. I barely have time to code on my mod as it is. I only have like 3-4 free hours a day.
