AWESOME! WE GOT THE RED LINE SPELLING ERROR CHECKER BACK! WOOHOO! This is a day to rejoice, fellow facepunchers!
This addon simply does not work for me... I downloaded "Official SmartSnap 1.0.0" and extracted to "addons". In-game I see the correct menus, but when i look at an object with and without the tool-gun, I see no grid :(.
EDIT: Installed older version, working fine.

That's strange, can you make sure it is enabled? and that no error has occured in the console?
And what version worked for you?
I get the same thing with the newest version but every one else that has it works for them.
There are no console errors and it is enabled.

Have you tried looking at an object and pressing USE? (does the grid appear if you do that?)
Please take a quick look at the settings as well, does everything look alright there?
It's a bug with the overlay code, if you look at a prop wrong, the grid doesn't show up, just look at it from a different angle.

Hmm? I've never experienced that?
It should show at any angle as long as you are aiming at the "grid box".
Not really, it's happened to me before in a multiplayer server, usually when someone is going around in a tank made of many props, or with a wire screen. It somehow fucks the overlay over and the grid somehow goes "behind" the prop, as in shows up on a back layer behind the prop.
I have checked everything.
I deleted old data files from past versions, I setup all option, tried diffrant ways to make it come up.
I think I get an error(unless it's from something else).
Which I will verify and check real soon.
I removed all mods that could possibly be interfering with this.
And yet still no smartsnap. :)
The version i installed can be found here:

This is really odd, I'll try to look into it, but I'm pretty bogged down with other tasks so I can't really devote any significant time myself.
As far as I can remember, nothing really major has happened since a long while back, so there really shouldn't be anything that should cause anything significant to occur. Which is why it makes me so surprised.
Just remember to check way up in the log when you create a game, because the SmartSnap errors tends to be all the way up at the top.
A few days back, I suddenly realised that smartsnap simply wasn't working. Grid and menu appear, and the markers colour changes according to manual accuracy...but pressing use doesn't make it snap to grid anymore. I carefully checked my settings, but still no joy.
I check version, and it was 0.9.4 or some such in the info.txt, So I downloaded the copy linked in this thread - still no joy.
Has the recent update broken smartsnap, or is this a random problem with my gmod?
I worked fine for me until suddenly my lines won't showup anymore, i only see the points when i look at them.
Again, problems with the overlay. It happens, just keep redownloading it until you get it working, make sure you enabled the smartsnap grid, and make sure you unzipped it to ADDONS.
I have redownloaded about 20 times and it still refuses to work.
I have tried removing any and all mods that may conflict with this but to no avail.
I have enabled it from the lua and from the game and have tried every single suggestion but it seems to not work. I didn't notice any errors in the conole either.
So I am stuck. :D
Seems to be running alright for me, what other HUD-editing mods are you guys running?
Like I said above I have no hud editing mod that I could find so I am stuck. :D
Where Do you extract it to?
Where Do you extract it to?
the same place as every addon
Like I said above I have no hud editing mod that I could find so I am stuck. :D
Question is, where did you extract it? Other than that, the only course of action is a re-install of the game. Sorry I couldn't help you anymore than that.
You did remember to COMPLETELY remove the old versions of SmartSnap, right?
Very helpful, very handy. Perfect. Good job on this. Lua King for you.
Couple of suggestions, if they have not been suggested yet: Is it possible to build "snap points" into models, detectable by your script? I know many PHX and SBMP models are designed to link to each other, but even with the grid, irregular models tend to be difficult to line up.
Second, can we have a preset menu? It would be great if I could set for PHX, and also set for other models.
This has to be the builders best friend! I just love it :)
And also - Some great suggestions by Anticept there.

There is supposed to be a preset menu there if you have the latest version. Also, I have thought about the "snap points" before, lots of times, but I never really got around to implementing it because it isn't all straight forward and they have to be manually added to models as well.
I'll look into it if I ever have time, it sure would be great for lots of props.
Hmm, would there be a way to check a model for points? Such as auto-create snap points based on vertexes on the prop?
can you turn it off in the options?
Hmm, would there be a way to check a model for points? Such as auto-create snap points based on vertexes on the prop?
Not really I think, since you can't access the geometry, there are still ways but they are not feasible, and it would be hard to create automatic points anyway since it'll probably just end up creating shitloads of silly points or none at all.
I've had an idea, which isn't that hard to implement really and that would be smartsnap on an actual geometry, so that if you have a table, the legs have separate grids etc, but it comes down to the fact that someone has to make those geometries (and it isn't straight forward), and also, the grids settings can easily become problematic as the shapes would be very different etc.
can you turn it off in the options?
I'm you are taking about smartsnap itself, yes there is toggle there for it, there is also a console command and some other toggles to make it visible only when you click E etc.
If you mean that snap-points would be, of course, but there wouldn't really be a point in it because the idea would be that you actually want those points (and they work alongside the regular grid).
Any suggestions for my issue with the smartsnap not snapping?
It started about 3-5 weeks ago, no mods installed between when it worked and when it spontaneously stopped working, no hardware changed. Grid still displays, Options still work in toggling grid on and off etc, but I can't get the mouse to actually snap to the grid anymore ='(
you sir, are a winner.I wish I'd downloaded this AGES ago.
