I used and it is good for making sure where you click is precisely in the middle. Great job and lua king'd.
if this is attempt to stop peoples using nail tool to steal other peoples props and break them or hide then it fails, With small tricks it's still possible and if it's pain in the ass then you can always disable it D:
Thank you all once again ;)
its awesome and solves some problems with aligning props corectly, But do u think the next version could include a tool that lets us cut the props into sections along grid lines, and move them independently
I had plans on that (if you only refer to cutting the grids, and not the actual props), but seeing how hard it is to make aligned grids already, it's a no from me, and it would be major work to implement, and I can almost bet that it would be very rarely used (I'm even wondering how well-used per-model grid offsets are). The only viable solution I can come up with would be if you could use some external modelling tool to define all the edges around a prop and then read it in-game, but it would still be major work to implement it all. This allows you to align props with perfect precision (for building), it has nothing to do with the nailer and stopping people from stealing your props. :eng101:
Smart snap is a really good tool to use but you can also use it to kill people from REALLY far away kinda like a hack.
I don't get why suddenly people think SmartSnap is a magical do-it-all. No, it can't hack props into pieces, nor can it help improve your aim against players. It's a building tool. It helps you build.
Smart snap is a really good tool to use but you can also use it to kill people from REALLY far away kinda like a hack.
What? The range that the grid actually appears you can hit someone with a pistol. You can't see it miles away.
Yeah, I thought it would be difficult too, and I can't figure out where to put half of my downloads so its impossible for me. I just thought it would be useful because I often cant find a prop that fills a gap without making it really ugly or too unbalanced to use. Its a real problem when i have to start from scratch again because theres a big glitch in the middle of my props.
This + ECS + Stacker Stool = Best forts ever.
think you could update this one for the beta? the options don't show up now that garry changed the way the menus work
Win x3
think you could update this one for the beta? the options don't show up now that garry changed the way the menus work
Ah thanks for telling me, tried the beta and smartsnap worked, but never looked if the settings were still there :v: SmartSnap 0.9.1 released, compatible with both beta and non-beta versions of GMod10.
Wow this really helped me alot, making my inventions look better.
I have a question, also i'd like to say, this is one hell of an awesome sexual addon, i love it! Now to my question, it seems it kind of makes a un-needed gap if i for example spawn 2, 4x4 PHX plates, and i easy weld the center of the plate, ontop of the other center, on the other plate, i noticed it since it for one seemed a bit too wider than it had to be, and if you undo the weld, it falls a bit ontop, is that related to this addon, or am i just looking for errors here... ?

For some reason when you put things on props etc, they are offset from the physics model, my guess is that this is done in order to be able to actually axis things etc, as they would otherwise be so tightly placed that they couldn't rotate and everything welded onto would constantly collide. As a summary, that is default gmod10 behaviour, with or without smartsnap you will get that gap. But note that it does not affect the precision of smartsnap because the gaps and curves in models are taken into account when snapping.

Gotta say again the precision of this thing is scary.. and even on the curved props, wow :O
Works great. I noticed there was a slight margin of error built in, props don't go exactly together. A simple -1 to the alignment works wonders, though.

It is on the Options tab I believe. It is called Smartsnap settings.
In next version make it snap able to players :v:
AKA. Aimbot?
Doesn't work on players. So unless everyone is a prop...
It is on the Options tab I believe. It is called Smartsnap settings.
Yea, i've been up and down that settings tab... but from what he's saying he found a way to make it go even closer to another prop when you use it to for example, easy weld it to something else ;)
It is possible to snap to players by enabling "enable for all entities" (I believe, or something like that), but it is truly shitty for DMing unless you just happen to walk up to the guy, snap him in the face and ask for a duel, and he can't be moving when you shoot either. The grid doesn't show up at a distance, and if you set it to, you would find it easier to just shoot him than to actually try to snap the head and then shoot.
Yea, i've been up and down that settings tab... but from what he's saying he found a way to make it go even closer to another prop when you use it to for example, easy weld it to something else ;)
I do not think he is referring to the smartsnap settings but some setting in gmod, because as I said, smartsnap does not do _anything_ other than move your mouse.
I do not think he is referring to the smartsnap settings but some setting in gmod, because as I said, smartsnap does not do _anything_ other than move your mouse.
Yea, that's why i'm still a bit puzzled... if anyone would be so kind, as to enlighten me on the matter (so my props would easy-weld closer together) i'd be very grateful. Also Syranide, i know that the snap_dev_offset is only for the grid if it's not fitting the absolute edge as it should, so that's not what i'm confused about :) Once again, great addon, an absolute must-have.
In next version make it snap able to players :v:
It is an option somewhere in the settings to work on all entities. If you set this up right you can make it work like an aim bot!
Syranide, you do know that the functions to make the new tab settings will probably break in the next update?
Syranide, you do know that the functions to make the new tab settings will probably break in the next update?
If he changes the API for adding entries to the tabs again I'll just issue another update.
Alright, just thought you might want to know. He said he was tweaking some things on how sections get added to the spawn menu.
Alright, just thought you might want to know. He said he was tweaking some things on how sections get added to the spawn menu.
Not just tweaked, but changed completely.
Not just tweaked, but changed completely.
He said if Garry updated it again. He's already updated it to work with the current beta. http://forums.facepunchstudios.com/showpost.php?p=6534682&postcount=131
