Sweet stuff!
Woh this is ausom, thanks finaly no more weard jumpy snapping :)
Wow, he only lost 26 smartness for this post? I've lost twice as much for a single minor grammatical error. I would have thought this many spelling errors could get a guy banned. Anyway, nice work. I'm downloading this now, and I'll come back later with feedback and/or suggestions. Edit: Hey, this is pretty sweet. The only thing that didn't seem to work perfectly for me was when I tried to use an axis constraint on the center of the wooden barrel model - the axis was not dead-center and so the barrels spun unevenly. Still, a great tool to have, and well worth the download. Ignorance Edit: Oh, wow. I'm sorry. The welds end up close enough to perfect for me when I do it right and hold down the "use" key. Ignorance is not bliss, it is aggravating. Wonderful addon, and I have ZERO complaints.

If the center line isn't dead center it is possible to modify the bounding box yourself (exaplained shoddily on the front page), by default SmartSnap uses the bounding box reported by the model which in most cases works very well, in some cases does not. I've bundled "optimized" offsets for most of the phoenix props and a few very common HL2 props.
Is there going to be an update? Since the new version of Gmod busted it.
Latest version works fine in the new update.
The latest version works in Single Player. Has anybody got it working in Multiplayer?
General notice, you must run 0.9.3 from now on, released on the 23rd of decemeber! 0.9.1 is not compatible with the new update.
The latest version works in Single Player. Has anybody got it working in Multiplayer?
I just tested myself in SP and MP, worked for both as far as I could see. EDIT: There will be an update to smartsnap very soon, 0.9.3 works, but this works around some very strange bug with loading/saving the settings, and it will now use the "preset"-system instead, which might even be a good addition.
OK the trick is to not install it on your dedicated servers. It only works if it's only on the client side.
OK the trick is to not install it on your dedicated servers. It only works if it's only on the client side.
Really? That's odd... it really should work, are there any error messages?
Works fine for me, client and serverside.
Works fine for me, client and serverside.
Hmm ok, good to hear. If anyone is having problem getting it running on servers please tell me what you can figure out and I will look into it. On another note. SmartSnap 0.9.4 released Very minor update, but uses presets for saving settings and it should also fix some of the rare bugs around here with the grid not showing although smartsnap is working (because something failed when loading the settings).

I will try to get a video of this .

Bug: Sometimes trying to use smartsnap on a center line doesn't allow it to snap.
This is an option, not a bug - disable "snap toggle" or something like that.
Hey thank you, I thought this was broken. I guess I am just parinoid with this new update stuff I am thinking everything is broken.
Hey thank you, I thought this was broken. I guess I am just parinoid with this new update stuff I am thinking everything is broken.
Odd however, you must've turned it on yourself just now if you installed 0.9.4? Because settings should've been reset and it should not be on by default.
Bug: Sometimes trying to use smartsnap on a center line doesn't allow it to snap.
Some models are bugged and actually have very small holes in the middle, sometimes just moving them around and changing the angles slightly helps. (A few PHX problems has this, also the combined blast doors (check closely and you'll see a hole))
I get some crashes with the update in multiplayer when using "undo" in between 2 smartwelds. Nothing serious but maybe someone else has this too. Anyway, probably the most useful script for builders. Keep rocking.

Sorry, typo. I mean fastweld.
Hey Syranide. I hate to break your ice but the mod deosn't work with the NEW update.
There is a fault in you spelling: 2007 1 17 Shouldn't it be: 2008 1 17?
Hey Syranide. I hate to break your ice but the mod deosn't work with the NEW update.
But are you using the latest version, 0.9.4, released yesterday? It seems to be working for everyone else, and those who it doesn't work for have got it working once they downloaded the latest version.
There is a fault in you spelling: 2007 1 17 Shouldn't it be: 2008 1 17?
You are correct! I made that error on basically all places, but apparently forgot to fix it up there. :v:.
Srry didn't know about the smartsnap update.
Well that'll teach you to try and go ice breaking without doing your research first! In other news, thanks for the update. Don't know what I'd do without Smartsnap. :keke:
Thank you very much for updating this. It was always one of my favourite addons.
Has anyone else had an issue with SS causing their frame rate to take a quick hit after using any of the tools? It seems that no matter which tool I use, if I am locked onto the SS grid and then say, click one prop and then another to weld them, it causes my FPS to drop down from high 200's to almost 25. This doesn't happen though if SS is switched off. This also seems to happen even if I am not locked onto the grid, and just move around with the SS grid in view, it will cause my FPS to fluctuate a lot. Any thoughts on why this might be happening?
I found something: This is the settings i have it set to: However this is what happens: When a weapon is equiped it works, fine. But when you use the Phys Gun it doesn't work? Edit: Thanks for making Smartsnap, i can't live without it! But one suggestion, can you add an option, that you have to hold E for 1 second to make it snap? It always snaps when pressing +use on objects, that's annoying :(

This also seems to happen even if I am not locked onto the grid, and just move around with the SS grid in view, it will cause my FPS to fluctuate a lot. Any thoughts on why this might be happening?
Shouldn't happen, smartsnap has no alternate states and no memory of any kind really, if you aren't pointing at anything, the grid isn't drawn, if you are pointing at something the grid is drawn. And that is basically it. The fact that you even get a drop when the grid is in view makes me wonder if something is screwing you over badly. Even I with a "decent" computer can show a 250x250-grid and still maintain reasonable FPS. How big is the FPS-drop? But then again, it depends on your settings, anything over 100 FPS is just arbitrary and it doesn't take much to bring it down, especially if you are running an older cards on minimum settings. So bottom line is, it really shouldn't happen and I don't see any reason why snapping and welding would cause any drop. Your best bet is to temporarily remove your other addons and see if it persists. Something might be doing some bad hooking of the USE-function. That is the best I can say at this moment, specifically since no one else has reported anything similar.
I found something: This is the settings i have it set to: However this is what happens: When a weapon is equiped it works, fine. And, secondly, since the phys gun moves the prop and smartsnap changes the aim, well, let's just say that it is a bad idea. :P If you are really persistent however, you can snap using whatever tool you like, then switch to the phys gun while still holding, but as I said, there is no reason to do it and it will just get weird.
Thanks for making Smartsnap, i can't live without it! But one suggestion, can you add an option, that you have to hold E for 1 second to make it snap? It always snaps when pressing +use on objects, that's annoying :(
What other reason do you have to press USE on objects? And objects that are interactable shouldn't have a grid. But I'll keep it in mind, might be a nice function actually. By the way, you can bind another function for snapping if you like and turn of snapping with the USE-button.
I also have the FPS drop problem, it's really annoying, whenever the grid appears, all I have to do is move and my FPS drops and fluctuates like hell. I am only using a very few addons which are 100% compatible with the latest gmod.
