Working on a placeholder model for the mobile mining facility: [img_thumb]http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/6855/mobileminingfacility.png[/img_thumb]
Been round since sunrise development, I can say this is looking great, I was missing the old ones
Ok, small WIP: [img_thumb]http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/6498/holyshitxh.png[/img_thumb] Also, the material generator seems to work nicely: http://pastebin.com/jzZDHE2J Heres a list of ALL the possible names so far: http://pastebin.com/HM5x3Vq9 Ok, so I added an extra word to the name generator and then I decided to do some calculations on possible combinations: Total materials in game: 1488 Total possible recipes in game: 4902433652736 And that's just for one category of recipes... You can specify what category of items you want to research in for new items.

Hey, just a thought, what if on the log in screen you put your current selected ship hovering in the background to give it a "personal" feel?
This is fucking amazing.
Working on the Pirate AI... Fine adjusting them a bit, but seems to go smoothly :D [img_thumb]http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/5351/pirateai.png[/img_thumb]
Will players be able to become pirates?
Yes. Players can choose what ever they want to do to others, whether it's helping them mine or killing them on the spot. Pretty much an open world, do what you want. (in-game)

This looks awesome. I'd never think you'd be able to do this in the source engine, let alone in many others. On another note, this reminds me of EVE without the boring gameplay and the complifuckingcated interface.
Found some wonderful HD textures for the planets: [img_thumb]http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/641/planetscreenshot.png[/img_thumb] I love taking pictures :D [img_thumb]http://imageshack.us/a/img209/4197/screen1sb.png[/img_thumb]

Looking good.
Heres a couple of more: Exams are coming up this month so I wont be able to focus that much on the gamemode, so far I've been optimizing the shit out of the gamemode.
How much more can you optimize it? Holy shit.
Can't get enough of them...
How much more can you optimize it? Holy shit.
I think he wants to be able to run it on an 8686
I love taking pictures :D *Metric Butt ton of pictures*
That's fine by me, love looking at them and can't wait to play!
also, I think these would make for amazing planet textures, although it would probably only work for 2D planets http://www.flickr.com/photos/christopherjonassen/sets/72157607271359052/with/4351345666/
Just a note gents, this is my exams periode this month, so I won't be able to focus that much on anything at the moment. I'll work on it again at the end of the month and perhabs do some smaller updates on the gamemode.
Why don't you ignore all this hollywood crap and add some physically realistic aspects ... to the warping.. http://youtu.be/lD08CuUi_Ek?t=6m50s
Oh yes, because we all want to sit there watching a blank white screen!
Speak for yourself! I think that the more realism the better! Though in the end it's the developer's choice.
To be honest, I think a blueshift/redshift warp effect would be kinda neat. Maybe not go as far as to show just white, more like what they did with Mass Effect's FTL.
after 4 years, this is probably the most amazing thing i've ever seen on garry's mod

Sorry if this has been asked before, is everything really small to allow it to fit within source boundaries? Or are there some special view hacks going on to make it appear massive?
For the speeds you'll be getting when warping, lines aren't enough. You'll have to go to plaid.
Sorry if this has been asked before, is everything really small to allow it to fit within source boundaries? Or are there some special view hacks going on to make it appear massive?
No. It's just some rendering tricks to bypass the limits. Concept is: Moving the map instead of moving the player, so basically using "fake" vectors to tell where the different objects are in space and then calculate that relative to the players "fake" vector. That way the player will always remain at 0,0,0 and all the other objects in space are moving around him. Most idiots think that you can just scale down to absolute super small sizes, but we have proven from time to time that this causes "jigging" on the movement, as in teleportation due to the floats rounding up because of the insanely small sizes.. Alternativ method had to be made, which is what Devinity 2 is using today..... Moving the map instead of moving the player. :) A nice rendering trick :D For a precise measurement to how large the map is thanks to this method, go here: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/Devinity2/discussions/2/864951657970882552/ Other news is I managed to improve the client prediction on the players. It's now PROPERLY predicting the path of the player, which was a problem before. More specifically the aim being screwed over occasionally but this should no longer happen anymore. The downside is I had to add latency to the aiming but at least there won't be any "teleportation" due to off-synch. Don't worry tho, it isn't that bad of a latency.
