DON'T DIE ON ME
Sorry, I just like fiddling with these theories and plans. I wanna put them on the test, but it requires some.... focus on how to put it in practical use for DV2.
Hmmm...
Also, I might need some suggestions on the different factions there could be. Obviously, humans are too stupid to exist in this universe so we will need some new more improved people, less dick-headed than human beings.
Any ideas? You're welcome to give a nice history about them as well. Ship themes are much appreciated too.
There's lots of potential for factions, so many areas you can work with;
2 Main Pirate Factions(?) then of course some smaller pirate groups.
A house Government / Military faction for each controlled sector, much like in Microsoft Freelancer.
Unlawful factions in each sector
Lawful Traders
Smugglers
Miners
Mercenaries
Alien Faction or some ultimate bad guy for everyone to hate.
You could always take some ideas from the Discovery Freelancer Wiki: http://discoverygc.com/wiki/Player_Factions
Whoever said silence in golden obviously never followed any mod or game developments

Patience...
Heres some news:
- Working on a prototype to make some NPC platforms randomly generated.
- Players can design their own platform for space industrial purposes. These platforms are used for walking and landing on them.
- Pirates are now killable
- NPC shop is up
- Planetary walking still in progress
- Some overhauling needs to be done on the galaxy map.
- I would love to have more people contribute to the project, as in ideas and such. I am very open to this, as I love my players.

I have some questions:
1. I didn't play Devinity 1 could you explain me what it is ? It's a space roleplay kind of thing ?
2. Also you gonna release or sell this mod ?
3.When do you think this will be done ? like in how long ?

Considering it has been in development for somewhere around two years (including the times where development was halted), take a guess.
Why not have it so that instead of coding in specific factions, code in faction types, and have the game generate them, so you could have 3 competing miner factions, a huge alliance of pirates, and allow them to fight among themselves, maybe form alliances, things like that
Development will be picked up again next week, after I've gone through some stressful summer start of college. If nothing is happening, means I've been buried in homework.
Did some new designs on some of the standard boxes of DV2 HUD.

Also the fleet:

on the top right...
I'm currently doing some work at the bottom left corner of the screen, where your statistics should be. It will be a collapsable box, that opens when you click it or something. Definetly working on the shop this time, as I want some grinding done. So with some of the skills coming up. I'll be doing some work with the different factions and player groups inside the game.
Will this be open source? I'd kill to have this, it's fuckin eve on gmod
Will this be open source? I'd kill to have this, it's fuckin eve on gmod
last time I checked, EVE and Garry's Mod were two different games, on two different engines. how could they possibly be merged?
check your knowledge base.

I think he means gameplay wise or at least cosmetically similar. At some points, I would actually agree with him, they are slightly similar, but at the same time there are differences. :)
So is this going to be open source?

No

keeping it private makes him stay above other scripters dude, why would he release it when the other scripters could get their hands on his top secret coding methods?
jesus people these days open source psh this is lua dude it's reputable as fuck he's gotta remain the maw dude if he releases his shit he wouldn't be the maw anymore and just everyone i can think of would use his work!
It is most likely going to be closed source because the goal is to draw in as many players as possible and keep them within the same community/server, as the gamemode's goal is to make a large, open universe that a large amount of players can be in.
If it were open source and being hosted by five or so gaming communities, their servers may have 20-30 people on them maximum, all seperated due to different servers. That all boils down to wasted potential on the gamemode's part.
bit stupid not to be open source imo
bit stupid not to be open source imo
Not really. Its more smart to keep it private for you guys to get your grubby hands on and host a million copys of the god damn amazing gamemode.
-Unlimited map size (18847 trillion cubic source units)
How is it possible ?
He simulates entity movement by moving the map as appose to the entity.
Other ships, other objects, will be rendered according to the 'global' position. The ship you pilot never moves.
Ok thanks.
I feel stupid.... All this time I always said 18447 trillion cubic source units is the volume of the map... Far from true!
I meant 18447 trillion source units in every axis so.
18446744073709551615 x 18446744073709551615 x 18446744073709551615
Equals = 6,2771017353866807628149423224449e+57 cubic source units....

Does Valve know about this method?
