Does Valve know about this method?
Valve doesn't need it for their games though. They might implement bigger maps with Source 2, who knows.

I did a calculation based on Source Dimensions. Total map size is: 3.295066527762037145834615392359501850796625645×10^53 cubic metres [editline]29th August 2013[/editline] Or: ~( 0.01 ~~ 1/91 ) × volume of the small dwarf galaxy NGC1705 (~~ 3×10^55 m^3 ) If that makes any sense to anyone.

Think about the things people could do with that.
You could probably write your own map format with meshes.
If only someone can make a map maker but do what hammer editor does. Like export in .bsp Okay this is kind of getting off topic so...keep up the good work maw
Finally, after ages I got a working algorithm going in one of my side projects for terrain generation, which will be used for generating planet textures and what not for Devinity 2. The experiment happened in Gamemaker, where I will be using the Diamond-Square algorithm to generate a nice looking terrain. (Source code for Gamemaker terrain generator: http://pastebin.com/bCYPZ3Ns ) NOTE: I am still working on the surface normals of the triangles, if you intend to use it. You can try it out yourself here: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8dBBkBt0LuZQmdEZjdKQnI3M2s/edit?usp=sharing Now the thing is that Devinity 2 is pretty much a very dynamic environment. Everything is generated, meaning even the designers or developers don't know what the content or the different solar systems will be. We can only predict. ;P Also, I have a lot of work in real life, due to the fact. I'm going to Texas, Austin from 4th october to 2nd november. I will then have my 20th year birthday on 4th november and on the 5th, I will be starting on the drivers school in my quest of getting a drivers license.. AFTER that I will have time for Devinity 2. In the mean time, only research and research is being done. Thank you for your understanding. EDIT: Fixed some UV issues: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8dBBkBt0LuZWjI2ci1uVnRjTms/edit?usp=sharing
Converted the algorithm into Lua http://pastebin.com/mSQWFJm4 Also, here's some pics: [img_thumb]http://imageshack.us/a/img209/3316/egzj.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://imageshack.us/a/img546/9105/v6fm.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://imageshack.us/a/img802/8451/o04d.jpg[/img_thumb] [img_thumb]http://imageshack.us/a/img854/892/663b.jpg[/img_thumb]
-snip-
many pants were changed.
Lookin' great as always, Maw! Also, you might want to snip that quote, Nightmare.
Those pictures look really cool. Can't wait to see more progess. By the way, I don't know if you noticed but there are a few bot spammers on the Divinity forum.
I never said he didn't have a real life, I was merely remarking on the lack of activity on the thread. I never understand why people are always so cynical on forums like these
The thread has no activity because he is the only dev of the project and is busy. When you bump a thread like this, people assume it's a post showing progress or something insightful, only to find a useless post that does nothing to advance conversation. If the thread is inactive, that's fine. Maw told us why and when he would be busy, so just be patient and wait.
A small hurricane hit Denmark recently. Further delays may be applied to the project. Top speed is about 120 mph (192.6 kph calculated from this danish website: http://jyllands-posten.dk/indland/trafik/ECE6165234/kraftigste-vindstoed-nogensinde-i-danmark/ ) I'll see ya'll 2nd November. I won't be very active until then because of 0.000001 mbit upload and download.
The official forms have been invaded by advertising bots
It's pretty bad, I know. Gunnah do some stuff before picking up on the project again. Being inactive for a month is going to have an impact on ya brain! :P.
...Somewhere deep in the vast nothingness of space, lies a place. A place where even light cannot escape it's grasp. The gravity of this dark place, rip apart time and space and rumours has it, that many more may lurk around the dark corners of Devinity, sucking in all light in the universe. <Footage appearing tomorrow>

Yes i know that was obvious.
The works, the works. It's taking shape! I want to fly a ship into that just to see it get destroyed.

Maw managed to clean up all of the spam and added what might be a fix to keep the bots from registering. We'll make sure that the spam doesn't get that bad again.
Right, these months since my trip to America has been busy, and therefore not much has been done to the project thanks to the massive homework, endless random occasions I have to attend to and of course the driving lessons this month. My best chances of actually getting some kind of progress done for the project is during the christmas holidays. Meanwhile, I decided to work on a very simple design for a watermark for Devinity 2, see if you like it. fuck yes, I remember this from a long time ago
Like the logo, Best of luck with your gamemode.
Loved your gamemodes since the old SpaceAge, you really know how to push the limits of creativity, along with functionality in garrysmod. Im so ready for this gamemode to get released so i can spend months of playtime on it.
Epic :o
THIS CHRISTMAS.. OH MY GOD THIS CHRISTMAS.... ...Yeah so I think I got the visuals n shit pretty spot on and I have even more things to do to improve it even further but I think it's time to start working on some game mechanics. Been a while since I messed about in it. For starters, I'll see if I can get some different minerals placed on the various generated solar systems, meanwhile being able to mine it, refine it, create new equipment and so on. The station on the first alpha test will consist of very little amount of content. Invited people gets to play it earlier on during the production and account wipes is to be expected during development. Crucial things may change you know. The reason why I am only beginning to pick up the project this month is because of the vast amount of things I had to do IRL. The finals, driving school, hanging out with the gangs, all those things, so yeah next week the game mechanics will be pushing forward significantly. I also plan on optimizing some of the things already existing in the game systems, such as the generator, at which you will notice that some solar systems will be deleted to make room for more improved and more intelligently created solar systems. (Right now they all spawn with a mini black hole in it). Some more plans for the player/faction owned stations would be to be able to design the interior of the station. Think of it like the map editor for source engine or perhabs Unreal Engine if anyone's familiar with it. You will be able to design using various of structures you have manufactured from one of the existing stations. Planetary walking will not be presented during the alpha stage due to focusing on the core game mechanics first, which is basically everything Sunrise had (My first version of this gamemode back in 2009). God bless the divine universe.
