Instead of flying in this tiny object ship (Which is really cool in itself) is it or would it be possible to walk around the ship? As in...keep your ship stationary (or moving) and explore your ship. It would be cool to have something like that especially with fleet battles.

that's a lot of work
that's a lot of work
But, given the circumstances that Devinity 2 has done. What's impossible anymore.

It's possible and relatively easy to do. Thing is, I wanna stick to the principles of Sunrise (First version of this gamemode back in 2008-2009).

Alright, I mean it's more of an optional thing to add, but it's interesting to think about.
You're still working on this?
I think it's a waste of time to try to make anything worthwhile on gmod, because in the end only people with gmod will be able to play it. With all this time you've spent on this gmod gamemode you could have made your own engine and had full rights to it.

except for the fact that making your own fucking game engine is COMPLETELY different and way harder than making a gamemode for fun.

I love working within the limits. There are a lot of things you can do to find a way around them. This expands my understanding of what is possible with a language like Lua. Besides...
>implying that people on the gamemode section of facepunch doesn't have Garry's Mod.
it's not a waste of time as long as you enjoy it.

Because if he made his own engine, it would be FAR more stable and more people would know of it and have the technical knowledge to install and play it! *sarcasm*
I think you vastly underestimate how hard it is to make your own engine.
It's not that, I know that themaw could make his own engine because he's a good programmer. I'm saying he would have been better off if he had spent all this time making his own game that he has rights to that he could actually make some money on. The gamemode looks great but it's still only a garry's mod gamemode.

That's the best part.
It is a good gamemode, but many people have made their own engines in 3 years. You could have also used one that already is made, and then you would have had distribution rights.
In the end, it's owned by Garry.
Keep up the good work, though. :D

You fail to see the point. If themaw made Devinity 2 a standalone game, it'd be nowhere near as amazing, as we've already got games like EVE that have been released, and we've got Star Citizen coming, Devinity 2 would probably stand no chance. The part that makes Devinity 2 extremely impressive is the simple fact that it's a Garry's Mod gamemode, and how it bypasses Source's restrictions.

Sunrise also bypassed source's restrictions with a similar system of using dimensions, that itself isn't the impressive part. The impressive part to me is the visuals. Most garry's mod gamemodes lack any decent visuals, devinity 2 is like art.
OK NEWS N SHIT: WORKING ON ZEH GAMEPLAY EHLIUEHALWIEUHALKEB
Ahem... So here's some of the stuff I've been working on today:
- Added Unlimited Item System
- Removed the need of networking between solar systems (Everything is generated through seeds, so no need)
- Progress on some of the ship models
- Additional rewritting of some item and inventory code. Things should be much more reliable and stable.
- Optimized the code on the galaxy map. Making it lagg less.

holy shit nice update
Is it just me or does this remind me of the "space stage" in that game Spore? except this one seems to be more developed. I have got to say, good job on this.
Beautiful new login screen!

- So finally added effects to some of the weapon classes in DV2.
- Fixed the camera jittering when using the "Look at" option when right clicking things
- Finished the group system.
- Added some new variant icons for the different items being generated.
- A lot of other bug fixes whatsoever to improve gameplay experience.
Aaand some pics displaying some combat between me and Durman2008 vs an armada of pirates during some bug fixing:

People who participated in the previous test runs are allowed to join the server at any time.
EDIT:
In order to play, I strongly recommend downloading this file.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8dBBkBt0LuZMHkzRGk3endNUkE/edit?usp=sharing
Once you downloaded it, extract the files inside the content folder into the garrysmod/garrysmod folder. Make sure that a popup comes up asking if you wish to override some folders. If this happens you have done it correckly and you simply proceed.
NOTE: This may not be ALL of the content but it is all the biggies.
I cannot fully express my hnng. This is amazing.
You seem to be speeding along with this, am I correct?
I cant express how amazing this is. I mean, all the work around. I just cant believe it is that old limited source engine, when i see the whole universe. I am java developer and i know, what pain it is to work with limitations of some environment (like android performance and javas bad resource handling), but this is just unbelievable. When someone will give me a question, what engine it is running on, source would be my last guess. Keep it up Maw. You really impressed me and I am really hungry to play it :).
For those who asks for releasing it: Keep in mind, it is huge universe (or galaxy?) and you would be happy to meet one player on one server. Look how bad are TTT server and Open Source mods (sorry for metioning TTT but its best to compare to). There are like thousand servers and i guess 9/10 of them are empty/buggy/unplayable. But on the other hand, there might be more (2 or 3) communities, with different style of playing (one with PvP and one without ), because i think there are several players, who likes one style of playing, so when there will be just one server, lets say one half players will be upset, because it doesnt fit their expectations. But i would recommend to dont release it as i see how bad it is with TTT or similar gamemodes.

Sorry I haven't read the thread at all.
I take it this isn't released?
Is it similar to spacebuild, I haven't played spacebuild in a year and its leaving a gap in my life

So is beta going on still and if so can I participate?
So is beta going on still and if so can I participate?
Maw is planning on doing an open beta once a few more core features are complete, last I heard. Though if you are that eager, you should join the steam group where we'll ocassionally announce group testing sessions.
Sorry, you need to Log In to post a reply to this thread.
