Out of curiosity, exactly why are some of the models yellow again? PHX had stuff like that as well.
The orange props are thinner than the white ones. Since the difference between the thin and regular props is only on one axis I think a different color helps to differentiate them. In SProps regular plates have a height/thickness/whatever of 3 units, thin ones are 1.5 units. In PHX its 3:1, so SProps thin plates are a little thicker.
In tonights update I added some wheels. So far, there are four different styles. I designed these to be performance-friendly. I wanted to avoid using the model for any of the detail, and instead get what I could out of the textures themselves. The screenshots do not do them justice, I think they turned out well. Features: • Low poly mesh(~300 polys each) with custom high detail textures baked from high poly models. • All of the models have LODs which further reduce polycount by around 60%. • All four styles have a thick and thin version. Each version has 10 sizes ranging from 15 to 60 units diameter. • The coloring tool will only affect the wheels, not the tire rubber or treads. • Each model is accompanied by a second material which will hide the rim completely (if you want to make your own). Here are a few ways to access the rimless versions: 1) Use the console command "material_override sprops/trans/wheels/LETTER_rimless". Obviously replace LETTER with the corresponding wheel. 2) Use a skin switcher tool. 3) Use the models as holograms, and use the e2 function "holoSkin(Index, SkinNumber)". 4) Add the secondary skins to the spawn list. To keep things condensed, I didn't do this by default. But its really easy:
"1" { "type" "model" "model" "sprops/trans/wheel_a/wheel15.mdl" "skin" "1" } "2" { "type" "model" "model" "sprops/trans/wheel_a/wheel15.mdl" "skin" "2" }
Don't forget to move the included spawnlists into the main gmod directory. Delete the old ones, too!
What happened to logos? I can't find them anymore.
What happened to logos? I can't find them anymore.
I removed them because I wasn't sure how legal they were, they probably wont be returning; sorry (I did warn you!).
O_o Legal? You are making advertisment for these companies. There is no legal issue here. Look here: http://www.brandsoftheworld.com/ they have no problem with it. Please, upload them again. Or maybe pack them in to zip and allow us to download it.
Worse thing that'll happen is You'd get an email or request somewhere to remove them, but otherwise it's not like they're going to sue you, or garry, or something.. I mean theres no difference between putting logos in a model pack and making all those models of cars that people use for roleplay or whatever
Just a small update; I added 3 more skins for Wheel D (these will only work on Wheel D), a lowercase alphabet, and some symbols that were missing. The new skins can be accessed with the same methods (skin switcher, mat override, etc) as the rimless versions, but I also added the mats to the material list for now. material_override sprops/trans/wheels/wheel_d2 material_override sprops/trans/wheels/wheel_d3 material_override sprops/trans/wheels/wheel_d4 Don't forget to move the miscellaneous spawnlist into the main directory. I need more ideas for useful props/textures!
could you create a reactor like in phx? just an idea
I really quite like these, might add them to my build server! c:
..... I need more ideas for useful props/textures!
Gears maybe? The ones we have are alright, but the teeth of the gears are always so short.
I need more ideas for useful props/textures!
Have you thought about train parts and tracks? I know PHX has some of those but if I remember correctly, some of the curved tracks have alignment issues. Also like dr.solveberg suggested, gears would be a good addition as well. You can never have too many gears. Edit: I was browsing through the addon and it is great so far. Could you make some larger sized tubes in terms of width?
Diamonds and bigger solid cylinders. Alternatively I agree with the color changing from white to a darker color. Same with the orange.
Perhaps you could add this part? Right now there is only the one with 1 tilted connection
Okay, I added some smaller diameter domes. I am going to see about adding some smaller diameter and thickness tubes now.
has there ever been any thought of changing the materials on the wheels so the shadows aren't baked into the textures? Currently the rims look really odd when spinning because the shadow spins along with it.
I could really use length 54 plates and blocks for reducing some part counts. Right meow I use two 30s instead.
Use homograms.
I'd recommend renaming the lowercase letters to make them closer in the list to the capital ones. The capitals are currently alphanum_x while lowercase are l_x. I'd do alphanum_x_l.
Use homograms.
No. Aside from that, the author asks for ideas for new parts and suggesting a hologram instead of a new part is not very constructive.
Aside from that, the author asks for ideas for new parts and suggesting a hologram instead of a new part is not very constructive.
Suggesting a specific measurement for a specific prop for your own specific use is even less constructive, as that is exactly what holograms are for. Aside from that, adding this one specific prop would make the entire model pack inconsistent and I would end up having to add dozens more. Use a hologram.
Already said No. Holograms are the devil, they take the last bit of actual physical construction out of Gmod. I will stuck with two 30 pieces but thanks for the explanation.

Meh, we all build differently.
Its been suggested that I include the spawnicons with the pack. Anyone have a good reason for me to not do this?
has there ever been any thought of changing the materials on the wheels so the shadows aren't baked into the textures?
Also known as: I can't use them correctly, therefore they suck.
no youre just arrogant
no youre just arrogant
I'd argue that people who say things like "they take the last bit of actual physical construction out of Gmod." are the arrogant ones.
I'd argue that people who say things like "they take the last bit of actual physical construction out of Gmod." are the arrogant ones.
actually no what the first person stated was that "holograms take construction out of the realm of physical props" in an exaggerated fashion. while his opinion can be interpreted one way or another, that statement is factually correct; once you are using holograms you are not using the props, and this is accurate to say. his statement attacks nobody in particular, merely the method itself which he expressed disdain for. he then says "to each his own." this is akin to saying "i think that belief in a god is silly, but you should have the right to believe in whatever you like." what the second person stated was "i assume that you don't know how to use this method, explaining why you don't like to use it." he is operating under the assumption that this person doesn't like holograms because he is too ignorant to use it. from there it is reasonable to assume that he believes that all people who disagree with him on this particular subject are simply too ignorant to see things his way, and are thus too simple to understand. this ad hominem jab doesnt really hold any water. in other words, the first person expressed disdain for a method yet recognized that people should be able to enjoy it regardless, and the second person attacked the first by assuming that people who dont like his way of seeing things are simply too ignorant to understand, which is arrogant bullshit.

There is a difference between building styles and not liking a building method because you don't understand it. Also he didn't say anything about people building their own way, just that he hated holograms and that they were the devil, until it was pointed out to him that making the part he wanted was a waste of time. If his suggestion had been helpful or he had said that he simply doesn't like to use holograms and left it at that instead of trying to act like holograms are somehow less then other building methods then that would be a different story. But he didn't leave it at, which is why people reacted the way they did.
On-Topic: I must say I was hesitant that this was another phx prop pack, but this model pack is awesome, when I saw all the various spawn icons in the game I was overwhelmed with excitement. I must admit that the fact that they are actually sorted by size is fantastic. PHX is annoying for that reason alone. Good job!
