I'm setting FF damage to 1% and making damage reflect, maybe this will discourage it a little.
If i need to, i could make the reflection increase based on how many times you shoot a player. So if i shoot the same guy 10 times, the damage bounced back to me will be like 5 times higher or something.
I'm toying with making the stalker use a refract texture instead, i think i just tweaked it to perfection.
Friendly fire is causing people to go crazy/causing drama because some people just shoot at teammates
So true, I think on each round I get shot more as a Unit8 peep than the stalker does.
Awesome job on the game mode sell. It's definitely one of the top choices for the dedi I'll be running. I haven't played it since my last post. But the ONLY things I would change is make the stalker more visible, and decrease the health degeneration. Also, would it be possible to use a generic weapon inventory rather than the e-menu? Something like on sandbox or even ttt, it might be easier.
Another thought I have is that the stalker could start out more visible (25% or so) and have a 'stealth mode' that works similar to the ESP, which would greatly reduce his visibility.
This is an amazing gamemode and I would love to host it on my 16 player, 24/7 UK server.
Can I have the gamemode files so I can run it?
Did a big update.
- The Stalker now uses a refract material instead of having his alpha set low.
- Added convar for friendly fire damage reflection (if you harm a teammate, then you also lose health).
- Changed how the Stalker bleeds out.
- Added bleed out effects for the Stalker.
The bleed-out effect has been rustling a lot of people's jimmies so i made it much more forgiving. When you spawn, you have a grace period before you start bleeding out. The grace period is defined by a convar and defaults to 40 seconds. If you haven't killed anyone within that time frame, you begin to lose health. It's currently calculated as 1 health per 100 health you have. So if you have 200 health, you lose 2 health every 1.5 seconds. If you have less than 200 health, you lose 1 health every 1.5 seconds. As long as a Stalker is actively playing and killing soldiers, the health drain effect won't even be a problem for them. If you don't even bother attempting to kill anyone, you will be punished.
Also, the content pack in the OP has been updated.

he's right in front of the yellow sign by that doorway, you should change the effect somehow because that was incredibly easy to spot in the light, and he was actually moving he'd be spotted instantly. Maybe change it so the stalker can control his blending colors somehow? That way it can be changed to suit different environments but without making it so he can make himself completely invisible.
Yep it's a very good gamemode played it in gmod 12 it's scary, but fun.
I'll tweak the refract amount if i have to, but i actually had a hard time seeing myself when i was running around with thirdperson enabled.

He was pretty much completely invisible half the time
I wouldn't mind running 1-2 dedis, if you would be so kind to give SVN access.
Hey, I was wondering if I can I get SVN access to host this Gamemode for a while. I have a Dedicated Server hosted in Germany, pm me if you would like details/specs :)
I'm almost done redoing the bullet system from scratch, i've also gone and added custom blood effects for the Stalker. He has yellow blood now so you'll be able to tell where people have shot him.

probably just the picture that makes it easy to see.
Yeah i had to move around until the Stalker was blocking something obvious. He's very hard to notice when up against "noisy" textures like gravel and stuff.
BIG UPDATE:
- Fixed decals drawing on the Stalker.
- Added custom bullet effects for when you shoot the Stalker.
- Added custom decals for Stalker blood.
- Added convar controlling scaling for reflected friendly fire damage (defaults to 200%).
I'm thinking i want to add a gimmick for spectators that will also help force the stalker to play aggressively. Once you die, you spectate for 2 minutes. After 2 minutes you have the option of becoming a Scanner (ie. a manhack model) which can float around the map and help locate the Stalker. You would move very slowly but you would be able to hover wherever you want. The Stalker would also be able to destroy Scanners i guess, i haven't really looked into this idea too much yet. In longer rounds this kind of gimmick would keep people entertained i think, and i also would be able to use the custom flashlight system to make the scanners flash colored lights and help the soldiers look around.
you should make the stalker be able to play a hella loud scream noise so he can scare the living shit out of people
btw the scanner idea is p unique you should do that
Please remove the friendly fire feature. It serves no purpose but to enable a group of people to troll/grief.

that's been a feature of this gamemode since its creation in gmod9, peep the OP

it's pretty low right now, and the reflection is now 200% so i can't see it being a very successful griefing thing anymore.

I guess the server isn't updated yet because that wasn't the case
The NCIX servers' datacenter was flooded and lost power, i guess they managed to get back online but the admin for those servers will be afk for 2-4 days due to the storm. In the meantime, other servers SHOULD be running the updated versions of this gamemode. If they aren't then pester the admins to update. You'll be able to tell if a server is updated if you shoot the stalker and it has yellow blood.
I really, really loved The Hidden: Source.
I hope it gets a downloadable release soon, so I can finally try it. (no test servers in Europe, sadly)
Thanks for making it.
I found an old mostly-complete map hidden away in my harddrive so i figured i'd turn it into a map for this gamemode.
It's not all the way complete so if there are any skilled mappers here who want to help finish it up, feel free.

I'm on a roll today, i added scanners. If you die, then after 2 minutes you will respawn as a scanner. If your scanner breaks (if the stalker punches it) then you're stuck spectating until the round ends. Scanners move pretty slow but they can hover to any height which makes them great for checking places that soldiers cannot reach.
As a scanner, you have free use of a tool similar to the NV Range Scanner. Additionally, your primary fire will do a trace in front of you. If it hits the Stalker, you will shine a light on him for a couple seconds and sound an alarm. All it takes is one punch for the Stalker to explode your Scanner so you need to stay out of his reach.

Alright, so I just tried out the Stalker its pretty fun so far except the weapon glitches and such. One thing really peeves me though is the lack of a weight system. Honestly doing all the damage to the stalker and then having someone take a pistol and end his life to become him isn't exactly fair.

If i made it the other way around then the people who land the final shot would be complaining how it's unfair, you can't please everyone.
There should not be any glitches currently, if there are then the server is running an outdated version or garry broke something with the recent gmod update.
I found some recent-ish gameplay footage, added to the op. I also committed a quick fix for the gmod update that broke playermodels, so if you're hosting a dedi server please udpate your shit.
I finished beta 1 of my map, let me know if you find any earth shattering problems on it. in particular i think the cubemaps might be fucked, i need someone to verify they are okay.

i'm planning to release this map with the gamemode when i do a workshop release. for now i need server owners running my most recent updates and testing them.
You should make the stalker scream damage/disable the scanner for a few since the claw strike isn't the most accurate for a small moving object.
Yeah that's next up on my list, also making telekinesis either kill the scanner or turn it into a prop that you can throw.
I dunno if i like the current flashlight thing it uses... The stalker can just jump away if he's spotted so it's kind of pointless.
Here's an idea i had: If you successfully lock on to the stalker as the scanner, then for 3 seconds your laser weapon turns on. You can freely aim and shoot it for that time span. There's no auto-lock on so you actually have to aim.
Heh, scanners are already annoying for the Stalker as it is. Often when I'm the last person I ask all the scanners to form a giant circle around me or atleast get a couple so they can take all the damage while I hose down the Stalker, its very funny.
As far as I have played, the Stalker model is broken, taking the player model of one of the citizens. In the past rounds, all the stalkers have died, however, I was the only one to manage to win as one. :v:
