i had to set the stalker model to a citizen for now. he's still invisible so you can't really tell it's a citizen.
I've made scanners breakable by props now so you can easily kill them by throwing a prop into them. If anyone wants to host this, just PM me. If you are a host, then make sure you do a SVN update every couple of days.
I joined a server yesterday and a little child thought the Stalker was Hide and Seek, due to the lack of a time limit he singlehandedly killed the server by making people DC out of pure frustration. Please add a time limit because I'm tired along with tons of other people, of seeing little kids who think the Stalker is Hide and Seek.
this is why we can't have nice things. i try and make gameplay for the stalker as flexible as possible without forcing a time limit on them and people find a way to abuse it.
i don't know how he managed to stay alive that long though. if he didn't kill anyone and just spent time running around then he would eventually run out of health, and all it would take is a few soldiers with scanners to catch on to him.
Here's an idea off the top of my head: A 5 minute timer, and once it runs out then the health drain for the stalker becomes more hardcore to the point where he has to pretty much go balls-to-the-wall aggressive or end up bleeding out. I really don't want to end rounds with half of the players in the server alive, it's very anti-climactic. A round should be over when either the Stalker is dead, or all the humans are dead. There are also other ways to combat the passive players, such as increasing the "grace period" you get from kills and making the bleed-out more painful.

Leave it up for the individual server owner/admins to deal with.
Not every problem needs to have the game play drastically changed because theres a lack of admins.
I want to make this gamemode work without admin intervention though. It's as simple as tweaking the current health drain values. I'm going to buff the grace time so good stalkers have more free time to set up good kills, and make the health drain slightly more powerful so that bad stalkers get a kick in the pants for dragging their heels.
Every time the Stalker kills someone, add time to the 5-minute timer.

Twoski already mentioned this. However I do hope that when you kill someone when your Grace time ends it just dumbs down the bleed out as you want the Stalker to feel rushed so that he has to kill people and eat their corpses in order to stay alive long enough. If bleed out ends when someone is killed, then the griefer can just go back on their merry way of hiding.
It won't end permanently, it merely delays it long enough for the stalker to set up another kill. Currently the stock options are that the Stalker bleeds out every 1.5 seconds and has a grace period of 40 seconds. I'm going to buff his grace time to 45 seconds and make his bleed out interval 1 second since right now the bleed out is much too weak when combined with the grace periods.
If the Stalker is killing people in order to keep his timer reset, then the system works. Plus, the more people that are dead, the more scanners there will be. I made it so scanners have laser weapons that unlock for 5 seconds when they spot the stalker. This doesn't exactly aid the soldiers in spotting the stalker so i dunno if i want to add some sort of laser pointer as well. Might be too overpowered.

I do not see any errors in the server console or logs.
however the clientside_errors.txt file that is on the server is full of this error.
I started to get complaints after I updated the servers with yesterdays (07/11/12) GMOD update.

Noticed this on all guns except the SPAS.
I fixed the reload bug.
Also some people have been telling me that they are able to join the server without downloading the files (i assume they are using cl_downloadfilter none). If this is the case then i'm going to just hardcode a kicking script that checks if they have the file. Servers should be using sv_pure and adding "materials/stalker/stalker_skin" to the list of files that need to match, but i guess it's hard to make everyone do that.
Does sv_pure work in GMOD?

I deleted the stalker content from GMOD, launched GMOD set cl_downloadfilter none
I then joined my server, downloaded no files, yet I was still able to join, even though I did not have the files, so everything stalker related was either an error sign or pink and black texture, and I was not kicked.
So is sv_pure broke in GMOD or have I set the pure_server_whitelist.txt settings wrong?
Hmm, that is strange, it looks like your whitelist is set up properly. You could simplify it by just having it CRC check the stalker material, everything else doesn't matter since they aren't exploitable.

Connected to server (did not download any files since download filter was set to none)

Ok so i found a permanent fix for the stalker skin issues. The best part is that it doesn't require a content pack re-release. Update your servers.
SteveUK has helped me make the weapons a bit nicer, they have proper lag compensation and recoil now. Also, you can now see your teammates' laser pointers when they have that perk. The ammo display on the soldier HUD now shows your reserve ammo rather than your total ammo (basically it shows your current magazine, and your total ammo minus what is in your magazine). Teammate names now draw slightly under the center of the screen when you look at them.

Nice, I like scary gamemodes, And maps they help you build up courage to go out to the "real" world.

please tell me it was just the map or does it pretty much always end up like that? i'd test for myself but i can't for awhile
If you're playing on a shite map then i can imagine that problem happening.
I don't endorse the vast majority of maps with the ts_ prefix because they are either way too fucking cramped or designed badly. Here is a list of maps i recommend/endorse. You can find them on gmod.org or in the OP of this thread.

I committed a small update, mostly bugfixes and shit. I need opinions on the flashlight perk. Is it even worth using at the moment? I've slightly buffed it by making your battery start charging sooner if you deplete it completely. I also nerfed the default flashlight a little, if you kill the battery then you have to wait 6 seconds before it starts recharging again. So if you're afraid of the dark then maybe the flashlight perk will be a bit more useful.

That error is a result of some buggy script you have in autorun. It looks like ULX is causing the error. You might want to post this in the ULX thread and delete it for the time being.
I'm guessing that error is what's breaking everything else, i haven't touched any of the stalker selection code since revision ~60ish

Make sure your map has the following:
- Appropriate soundscapes.
- Props that the stalker can possess. My script automatically deletes small props so don't bother placing stuff like glass bottles. My script also deletes all but one randomly picked super heavy prop (such as, vending machines, dumpsters, other heavy shit).
- Spawn points, use info_player_terrorist or info_player_stalker for the stalker and info_player_counterterrorist or info_player_human for humans.
That's it. Try to have a decent balance of light and dark areas in your map so that flashlights aren't useless (dark places are also more scary so it's a win-win).

Ah. Why not make the content a Workshop download like some other gamemodes do? Somehow they even get the gamemode synced with the Workshop file so there's a link to download the content right next to the listing in the gamemode menu if you don't have it.
I'll make this a workshop gamemode when i've fixed all the major bugs. In the meantime, type "cl_downloadfilter all" in your console so that you automatically download content.
I'm having some issues with Stalker on my server. Since yesterday, when somebody spawns, they spawn exactly where they last died (or if they did not die, where they were last standing). It's applied to both the Stalker and the Soldiers, so it's pretty game-breaking. Does the error only exist on my server? We're on the latest revision (109), and there are no errors/messages in the console.
