Glad to see my suggested myth is on episode one. As for source myth ideas I'm not so good, but when it comes to retesting the shows myths, I know my way around :). Due to source not having a lot of real world physics such as air resistance, many of the show myths are out, but there are some that can still work in gmod. Here they are... Myth: Is it feasible to be slung(Is that a word?) over the frontier? Can a slingshot be made that can sling players over a remake of the United States/Mexico Border (200 yards) onto an object such as a matress that will keep the player alive? They Say: Busted Myth: Can a tissue box (Its going to have to be an object equal in weight or a custom model) be propelled forward with enough force in a car crash to kill a human? On the show the just had a truck pull a trailer with a tissue box. They had the truck come to a very abrupt stop and let the tissue box hit a target. They measured the damage to see if it had the force to kill. They Say: (I can't remember :() Myth: (Once of my own)What is the maximum distance a player can fall without dieing?
Great idea. Specificially speaking, doesn't your asking idea contradict with your first post? I will PM you later about more "infomation" since you seem to be keen on getting crew members. :ninja: MYTH: Can you run down cargo containers _non'_ stop while they're moving without getting hurt?
MYTH: Can you run down cargo containers _non'_stop while they're moving without getting hurt?
I don't think I quite understand what you mean. Also, Q, I like the slingshot myth - I'm going to go work on that right now. If it turns out with a shocking ending or if it takes long enough I'll put that in episode one. I'm using that cause I love launching stuff, especially people, haha.
Sweet, can't wait until episode one is finished!
Can I help bust myths?

Kilala says: Well, there is no max height to fall because the default dm settings has to were no matter how high above a certain height you fall, you will only lose 10 health. But if you have realistic fall damage on, that will be an interesting myth to do.
Read what is in bold print to see my opinion.
Yeah, the last one was meant for realistic fall damage. And Rory, I figured out that 200 yards in gmod is about 20 cargo containers linked lengthwise. I managed to sling myself 200 yards but the hard part is landing on something soft.
I did research and made my own map. One unit in the editor was an inch, 36 inches in a yard. 36 times 200 is 7200, and hence forth the map. I finished it but I'm going to test it a few more times. Want to know the call? Too bad, see ya on episode 1!
Here's a myth. Magnatise an explosive barrel. It will now noclip through anything you throw at it.
Here is a myth, do players really crash because Source can't handle the amount of barrels exploding, or is it really because their SYSTEM can't handle it?
System. I run a 24/7 dedicated server with a slow connection (1MB atm i think) and made max props 1000. Spawned like hell (Even recorded video!) and when it was bloody full of barrels, I threw a grenade in the middle. First a small boom... THEN APOCALYPSE! It hanged for a slight second *WHEN I WAS WATCHING WITH MY CLIENT* and nothing happened. That means, Source can handle it. My server didn't crash. But my client computer needs to draw all the explosions with it's RAM. That could have crashed me. However, reason I didn't crash myself was unknown, I have only 512 MB RAM. But the point is, system defines how much you can handle. System is what makes every barrel and keeps control. It's like saying "How many nails can you hammer with a hammer?" "As many as yourself can manage. The hammer is merely a tool."
myth ideas I'm not so good, but when it comes to retesting the shows myths, I know my way around :). They Say: (I can't remember :() Myth: (Once of my own)What is the maximum distance a player can fall without dieing?
Technically, no myths can be tested in the Source engine, because the real world has so many factors that it is impossible to implement it in a game, even with unlimited computer power. I know enough about physics to know that. One problem is molecules, chemical reactions and red-oks reactions, but air resistance, static electricity, weather, water drops, REAL GRAVITY (Gravity is much more than just falling), real flesh, skin and weight on players, headaches and deseases, Mass consistency and even particles and nature laws unknown to the human mind are simply impossible to implement. Even the mattress myth cannot be tested because of many of these. But we could always try get as near as possible, and since this is a simulation of reality, many myths might as well work in reality. Myth 1: Slingshot. I would say, Yes. Very possible, but extremely hard. You'd never be able to substitute that situation in real life apart from when you are in the real situation, because you think and act different. When you are in that situation, starving, desperate, and dedicated your whole life up to it - Believe me, people can do amazing things. Just look at the pyramids to get an idea of how amazing things we humans can do. And simulating that in the physics engine would be a problem. If you land with one leg at the edge of something, your player will stay on it. It's totally flat under your legs. You can't fall or break any legs. You are a statue, just soft so you don't break. You can't experience falling techniques or anything in the source engine and landing standing on a pillow could result in damage in real life. Myth 2: Tissue Box I already know from experience that that myth is true. People have been killed by pillows in the back seat. I knew of a specific woman once. The weight has almost no matter, as mass in great speeds behaves different. If you get high enough speed, the mass will be changed to pure energy, and be as dangerous as a laser beam. Though that is not likely to happen in a car crash, hehe. And when you consider a box, that is not actually any soft, coming at full speed from the backseat.. Aoch. It might even shred and cut your throat if you're unlucky. In the source engine, speed doesn't synchronize properly with mass I think, so you might survive even if the box goes faster than your screen could draw. the game ain't properly designed for that. But still, try it out, you might get results. Myth 3: Max falling Wow. Impossible to say. Consistency of your legs, how much you sweat, how good or bad shape you are, how much you weight, how much the friction of the air is, what you land on, which position you are in when you land... I have thought out a falling technique that if done right, I believe you can fall from extreme distances. It's very complex and almost impossible to do, but if done right, I believe it can make incredible results. Furthermore, a man can lift a small car on his shoulders if his bones are in a position where he uses his skeleton to lift the car. If he lands right when he falls, maybe he will survive. And you think of testing this in garrysmod? Oh well, you can always try. Maybe it's possible in the source engine too. :) And about
As for the crew, I'm interested in join the team, Rory. I've watched mythbusters quite some time and discovered lots of factors they always miss. That was a bore, but it looks like that might be useful here. If you let me in your team, you can always PM me or answer directly. I already have factors for the first video that might be useful taken into consideration. Good luck though.
Please Answer. I edited it a little though. My steam name is masterofdeath566
Special thanks to xfire: I_speel_good for this animation
Well, thank you! :) I can make an AVI version if you wish. Edit:
Myth: (Once of my own)What is the maximum distance a player can fall without dieing?
Nuh-uh. In GMod, whatever the distance is, you always lose 10 Health.
To the above poster.. I will repeat myself, that myth is meant for realistic fall damage to be on.
OK I've read a few posts. Time to end the confusion. This is GARRY'S MOD MYTHBUSTERS. Not "Real Life Using Garry's Mod Mythbusters" We're testing myths that have to do with the source engine and Garry's Mod, not testing myths about things in real life inside Gmod.
^Exactly!^ Thanks for clearing that up for everyone Rory.
We planned to post that announcement earlier QAC, but i guess neither of us got around to it :P.
That is such a good idea.
I have looked on the mythbusters on my PLASMA TV =)! Its very good!
Well, thank you! :) I can make an AVI version if you wish. Edit: Nuh-uh. In GMod, whatever the distance is, you always lose 10 Health.
Unless you set to mp_falldamage to 0, then it's more realistic.
Unless you set to mp_falldamage to 0, then it's more realistic.
Dude, I didn't know that! Thanks for you.
I thought it was mp_falldamage 1? :P Episode 1 should be coming out tonight.
Episode 2, you mean? Episode 2 keeps getting delayed and I think it's not coming out in Q1 2007 at all.
Episode 1 hasn't been released. It's going to be released this weekend. And we have only been making the episode for one week, so quit overreacting.
I would love to be an actor of this since I'm an ardent Myth Butsters fan, unfortunately I don't think you could possibly have anymore people then you do so I digress. Any who, I have a bone to pick about one thing you mentioned: In your "Mission statement" at the top of the first post of this thread you say that ALL myths must be tested in a virgin copy of Garry's Mod and yet in your first episode you use both the Phoenix model pack and the prop stacker stool. So all I'm saying is that maybe you should re-specify your policy or revise it to include SOME modifications.

The stacker mod isn't actually changing anything about the props. It is simply welding and stacking props in a very precise manner. It is making contraptions more accurate.

If you need someone to record, I have a full version of fraps, dual-core processor, and a powerful video card. If you want my assistance, cantact me on xfire, username Killa1769. I'm available 10pm to 5am EST.
Rory, I still haven't got a reply. May I join the team or not? You got my steam name from my previous posts.
