..I used a vanilla vehicle and got critisised for it :/
That's because it's a vanilla vehicle, even worse than using PHX props. You are just using valve's premade vehicles and tacking shit onto it.
Something that would be nice to see: nice remarks and critisism =]
It just seems that if something is done/made in "the wrong way" you get torn to pieces. Take Facepunch for example.. I don't like the way its laid out, I don't like the buttons, or the spelling thing going on here, but I don't go saying it's all wrong, and it should be done like this. It's non of my business is it. I chose to sign up, so I put up with it and live with it. Fair enough. But when people slag off something they didn't make, they chose to look at it, they chose to open the thread, and then they choose to tear it to pieces.. instead, why don't they take the idea, go on GMod, and change the bits they don't like, then reply on the thread with a pic of their 'eddited' version and state why they've changed it? Just a suggestion.
I don't mean to argue and flame all the time, I'm just beginning to get annoyed with getting told how to play a game :/
One more thing, if someone went on a PC forum [I make PCs & repair them], and posted pic and the spec of their system, and mine was generally a better performance PC, I don't go saying things like "it's just a shitty GPU tacked onto an old crappy Intel motherboard.. go buy a new one when you can afford something that's worth posting"...o.O
I've had G-mod for awhile now, but I still can't make very good contraptions and I'm not even fucking close to understanding Wire.
If someone is online right now and could help me with more advanced contraptions and a little bit of Wire that would be awesome. Just reply to this message and I'll give you my STEAM username via PM.
You (or anyone else that wants me on their friends list) can add me to steam friends if you want. I have a dedicated server I play around on, just add Knexpert1 and I can try to help you out.

YOU chose to post your contraption so be ready to accept the criticism.
^Unless it is just flaming and trolling, which Bam has definitely encountered. His contraptions may have sucked, but he did a good job with the Photoshopping; people only focused on how it used a pre-made vehicle, and trashed both of his threads.
Similar stuff has been happening to lots of people, including me, and some dude who made a big, red ship.

When you post here on facepunch you do it to either:
Show off. You made something really cool and you want to show other people how good you are so you can get some extension on your e-penis.
Get help. You made something but it didn't achieve the desired effect and you need help getting it right.
Spread joy. You made something funny and you want someone to get a good laugh out of it.
Now if you are not posting for the third option you are looking for criticism. Almost everyone want positive criticism but sometimes you need negative.
Let's take this as a simple example. I'm meeting my girlfriends parents for the first time and I want to make a good impression. Therefor I get going in the kitchen cooking, because there's been all these guys telling me I'm a great chef. I cook something that tastes worse than a pile of sheit and serve it to my girlfriends parents. They kill me and my friends and wear us as clothes for a while then eat our bowels while raping us through the ears. Now that ain't something I'd like for me to happen... and that's what will happen if you don't get told you can't cook.
People can use PHX if they want.
It's not an excuse for you to flame them if you don't like it. Just fuck off out of the thread without posting if you're going to be a wanker about it.
Part of GMod's appeal is you can make your own models and import models into it and use them within Source. So stop yer whining.
Post in a thread that uses normal props if you can't handle it.
I totally disagree with the PHX part, it's a very useful addon for everything. Also, why people shouldn't use much wire? Using wire correctly is as challenging as building contraptions correctly, and should be as welcome in the forums too.
And more welds do improve the stregth of the weld, just try the Smart weld and you'll see a huge difference.
If Wire and PHX hadn't come along a lot of people wouldn't still be playing it. GMOD would never have evolved and in turn would have died out due to lack of creative control.
Then, probably someone else would've made a modular pack.
Why it this still on top? It should have been unstickied as soon as it turned into an argument thread.
I am unsure, I never thought it would get a sticky really, let alone stay a sticky for this long. However, as long as it still is a sticky (or un-stickied for that matter), I will continue to work on it and watch it. Speaking of working on it... recent events have compelled me to edit the first post.

Edberg has a point. Going Hurrrrrr hurrrr hurrrr...mai stik kill joor tahnk....oooohhhh ooooohhh vs. a Wire Plane/tank worth more than a cr*p is not a good idea.
What is the best method or props use to create the body of a plane.

bathtubs, barrels, headcrab canisters. or you could make one out of phx svn pieces
Phx props are great for using as base props and props that fill in that missing piece of your contraption. I find in my creations that Phx on its own does have a disadvantage in looks over a HL2 prop creation however other people have managed to make really good looking phx contraptions. Creating a work of art out of rare props is not allways the best either. Its a shame when someones says they can't see the contraption, its just errors so the hour putting it together was wasted. Making something that only a small percentage of people can see is not good. I feel limited to just the basic hl2 props which are still fine for create awesome stuff with. For me a Blend of phx and hl2 props work best but use what ever is comfortable and gives you the best resaults i say.
This game is limited to what models we have. That is why I got 1/4 life to set up the svn and add primative and tiled. We should have 4,000,000 custom props by now but too many people are happy with the current spread we have to deal with. If you can model.. DO SO!
Ok, i have a tip.
1. If you try to build something after a picture in real life(I'm gonna say this in capital letters) TAKE YOUR TIME!!!!!1. Dont haste build it it'll look horrible.
Also, where do i find the pipes models many people use to make railers...?
how about the search function
Got any idea of what i should type in the search box?
Just search pipe.
This is a good guide, and I highly recommend newbies look at this before posting a contraption. Facepunchers have a high expectations when it comes to posting contraptions. As do the mappers in the mapping forums. Sometimes it's not the best idea to post a first contraption, unless you are 100% sure it will be well-liked throughout the community.
Also, people need to realize Wire doesn't automatically make a good contraption. Cosmetics, functionality, and purpose all coincide when building a 'good' contraption. This means, your wired clock or LED Display or even Motor doesn't make anything special unless you actually make it complex other than the Wired Aspect of the contraption.

Agreed. Maybe someone should make a side by side picture comparison of "this is post worthy" and "this is a pile of crap"
If nothing else it will be funny.
Somebody (who understands it), copy over the walker and parenting tutorials to this thread so it's easy for newbies to find.
I made Candy Land with Wire and PHX. Good luck making that work without it.
