I posted a rotary combination lock concept ages back and the only comments I got was that it was "a mass of PHX and wire". I know. It's a machine, not a model.
I think karbine and some of the other top blokes were pretty active at the time and mine didn't compare well enough.

I think it's happening...old builders getting bored, new builders discouraged by high standards. If you don't meet the bar, or fit in, you get flamed. And don't even try to be different or experiment.
Easy-P, parenting, E2...they killed off a lot of the inventive, experimentive spirit that made gmod gmod. I like E2, parenting, sleazy-P, but that "fuck if it doesn't work, I'll give it a shot" spirit is kind of dead. Hell, applyForce() opened doors we never had open before--but we just use it for convenience often, rather than NEW things. Now it's "how many more details can I pack into it so it looks JUST RIGHT" rather than experimenting. Hell, at the very least, bring back Risk to Conquer or something like that.

RedReaper is a noob but speaks truth. I got back from Mongolia and all the Audios and chill builders like Snoop had left and been replaced by cunt punching idiots. Everything was just flame wars and nonsense. And there is this hate for the new. I remember when we were all stoked for hover balls and new possibilities of things like wire and better control commands, but now there is like a huge backlash against it. It's an effing game that I played to relax, not art school (which, irony of ironies, I'm in now). It stopped really feeling like a community and turned into a bunch of ego trips and people arguing about the right way to play an open ended sandbox game :/. The people I enjoyed playing with weren't the most amazing builders, but they new how to chill out and just screw around, but now we're all in college and have poop to do.
And most importantly, Garry killed Gmod 9, and trying to figure out everything I need for 10 has been a pain.
Cool story, me.

But why? The example I gave had nothing to do with wiremod, apart from using it for a weld latch.
Maybe the forum needs some more rules, or maybe a rename. Maybe it should be the "Models" subform. When I think of the word contraption I think of a machine, probably a bit contrived looking, mainly functional.

Evac, whats wrong with physics advanced contraptions instead of just things that have a good model? All of xxxmags physics contraptions got rave reviews because they were amazing, but the helicopters and flappers looked like crap from a model perspective. That combination lock is epic, and I agree that comments like your hatred towards his contraption is a good example of what we are talking about right now. You may not like contraptions like that, but a lot of readers may like them. That lock took a lot of skill and creativity to make, and flaming like yours is preventing stuff like that from being posted on these forums.
