How does this applyforce-thingy work? Is it somehow related to Forcers?
people over exaggerate applyforce.
That. And people also underestimate it.
pff applyforce come back and talk to me when you've spent hours agonizingly placing each and every thruster on a beautiful hand crafted mech and then we'll talk little luddite. you just dont appreciate the skill that goes into true fine mech crafting.
I've done the Aforementioned and, This is alot better.
I honestly don't want to spend hours messing with elastics and thrusters,
I want to built ma mech chassis.
Sure it is abit iffy at first, but once you tweak it right, it's all good.
Honestly, from the first days of mech building, Lots of people came along and said "Oh meh gawd use Hydwalics, Thrusters smell",
Guess it's the same these days too, Just advanced a little :D

Tru.Dat
It looks like its walking backwards and its ugly
Cute, you found the bearing() and elevation() commands. I use straight vector positions and I have an occlusion sphere to allow for a mech canopy and pinpoint aiming while being covered by armor.
What you're showing me there is what equates to a e1 delta turret. I hope you're proud.
edit: also, applyAngForce? Who uses that? applyOffsetForce allows for more finesse. Also I'm moving the entities not the chip so it can remain stationary and aaaaaaaaaaa why are you doing it so wrong jeet christ
Also, you don't have to make fun of people for not knowing your super leet coding skills for your mech. You seem to me like a Hitler type person.
Heil sestze! (?)

I'm an "accepted non-goon allowed in the server." So says Pokesmot and Kyle and Lazer and...well you get the point.
Actually, I was in Strofe Empire back in GMOD9, and that was run by Pokesmot. So yeah.

Wait what?
Edit: Today i met Sestze. He proved me totally wrong. I was ignorant and acting a little stupid when i posted the original comment. After seeing and using one of his mechs in person and asked about some of the details i learned that every thing i addressed in my post was wrong. All i can say now is im sorry and was assuming things that weren't true.
This is not a true mech because the feet don't actually control the movement. This should be called a hover tank because the legs are just ascetics. This is just the wiremod way of making a hiden wheel mech. Oh and before you ask i have build a true mech. The process is not that hard.
[editline]01:49AM[/editline]
Well you dont even need vector thrusters for a mech. I did it with 5 regular thrusters. Oh and I do under stand applyforce as well. You are just finding the easy way out. I am giving you a chanlenge build a mech that only uses 5 thrusters numpad controlled. I dont care what you use to keeps the legs up: sliders, hydraulics, elastics, ropes, ect.
Nice bump.
Yes. The "easy way out". Indeed. I didn't put hours of work into coding the expression at all. The expression itself only strives to maintain the position of the hip over the center of mass. The movement itself is governed by the feet.
How about a 100% hydraulic based mech? I've done that already. The other systems' "realism" (really, thrusters? What?) is stymied by how Source handles friction. If you'd like to take a look at the expression, I made the simple WASD based version available in this thread.
I don't think you fully grasp how long it took to create and tweak this system to where it is now. I've explored other avenues and found them significantly lacking.
To be perfectly honest I've been saying the same sort of shit over and over and over again. The point of the expression and/or walking system isn't to be ultra realistic - I have other methods for that if I truly wanted them. Instead, it's a tool for people who don't have the knack for making mechs to dip their feet in and try it out. Also, the mouse-aimed system that you see in the video is pretty boss for combat itself, you don't get confused while you're frantically mashing the numpad to walk and oh christ i cant keep this up
really? really? you're going to tell me to use numpad thrusters to make something walk? after I've come this far? you want me to go back to gmod circa 2007/2008? why the hell would you want me to do that, nay, challenge me to do so?
it's hilarious that you tote realism and then say "the proper method for this is to use thrusters", I can keep regressing that statement back until we're doing nothing but awkwardly slapping a lot of wheels and hydraulics on a mech. the big plus to my system is that it is almost lagless and is fun to drive - your system fails on that count.

god knows why i posted that shit, it's not like you're going to show back up again and discuss your point of view.
