The reason there is no shell is because the slide is only just beginning to cycle. Look at how close the bullet is, there's no way the shell would already be in the air when the bullet has only moved a foot or two.
Muzzleflash is way too overdone.

Well since you can see the sound barriers break there shouldn't be any motion blur.
I think it would have looked nicer with a smaller muzzle flash too.
