Why are you even on the thread if you don't give a shit about the pod? Lol.
Lol joke?
Lol joke?
Ha, it's hard to get sarcasm and jokes being typed. Your avatar sort of goes with your pessimism lol.
No it doesn't. You're probably doing it wrong. Get the multi parenting stool if you haven't already. Get latest wire or something to make sure your adv duplicator doesn't suck. Put a wirechip on your contraption. Parent everything to that. Dupe. Paste it. Unfreeze what you pasted and try it out. Should be no problems at all.
Never thought of parenting it to a chip(I'll have to try that) still, like trooper said, it does tend to lag a bit.....
Never thought of parenting it to a chip(I'll have to try that) still, like trooper said, it does tend to lag a bit.....
If you parent it to a wire chip you can recolor it, rematerialize it, remove it etc etc. And trust me, a car body made of 300 props will lag alot less parented than welded. And if collision is that much of an issue, Just put a big box around it, weld it, color it invisible. These are just tips of course. Edit: Constraints is what makes shit lag. The more constraints the laggier. Parenting is a constraint. But instead of having to nocollide and weld a prop to like 5 others, you just do it to one. Making it less laggy. Fps lag is no issue either, Because the game still has to render the same amount of models.

So basically parenting will not give the pod that weird effect where the top will sink into the bottom on impact and go back up, like a spring?
Alright, I'll try it with two versions. So basically parenting will not give the pod that weird effect where the top will sink into the bottom on impact and go back up, like a spring?
It won't impact. Only the pod and other stuff you didn't parent will impact.
Parenting isn't a constraint
Parenting isn't a constriant
It is... when spawning a bunch of props, parenting them and saving them with adv dupe you see that you got as much constraints as you got props
Parenting isn't a constriant
Well, Then, It's even better. Hooray.
It is... when spawning a bunch of props, parenting them and saving them with adv dupe you see that you got as much constraints as you got props
When i think about it, It isn't. When you do shit in hammer, You see that parenting is an entity property, and not another entity. Like ropes.
read my previous post :]
Just because advance duplicator thinks it's a constraint it doesn't mean it is. I could be wrong though. But there is no such thing as ent_parent or the like. When you have a prop_physics or whatever, you don't add another constraint entity, You just set a setting saying that it should follow that prop instead. Maybe I'm still wrong though. It's possible that it's just as stressful for the engine as a constraint.
Well, Then, It's even better. Hooray.
read my previous post :]
Never thought of parenting it to a chip(I'll have to try that) still, like trooper said, it does tend to lag a bit.....
It takes the stress off of the cpu usage, just make sure the props being parented are not already constrained e.g. welded to something. Use the phx elevator model Miscellaneous\lift2x2.mdl as your base prop.
Ha, it's hard to get sarcasm and jokes being typed. Your avatar sort of goes with your pessimism lol.
Lol its randy marsh drinking a beer making eggs
Lol its randy marsh drinking a beer making eggs
Haha, Randy's great. I love the Guinea Pig episode. [editline]11:02PM[/editline]
It takes the stress off of the cpu usage, just make sure the props being parented are not already constrained e.g. welded to something. I am just forming props together and am going to parent them to a single, smaller base prop that will stop it from bouncing. I might even make my own frame, but the elevator would be way too big for this pod. Maybe a custom pod, but surely not this one.

By the way, the new door looks much better. I think i like the exterior of the version 2 one more, but the new rt monitor setup is much better in this one. One other thing: I do like the aesthetic of the original version 2, but you do what you feel is right(just my personal opinion.).
Hm, somone else uploaded their ODST pod. It looks good, but the door's windows are way off and it has no RT screens. My V2 is in production (the actual pod now). And I looked at the Pod opening a bit more. 2 flaps at the sides of the door open up but stay on the pod and then the pod door flies open, and I will attempt to reproduce this effect.
I actually think I'm beat you guys. The other guy's pod looks really nice, and to be honest I'll never finish my pod. He got the shape perfect and the door looks good too (it's still a little off tho lol). Test his pod and tell me what you think, do I need to continue making my pod or just stop, because its killin' me here lol.

The others really aren't that perfect, and there biggest flaw of all is that some times on the way down, they spaz out and get tangled up within them selves. Also, what do you mean they got the shape perfect? Its petty far off(like i could do any better, lol :p). Yours is just fine, so keep at it! I'd hate to see this die(like most cool stuff does....). Merry Christmas you guys! P.S: In the event that you do not celebrate Christmas, Happy Hanukkah Kwanzaa, or whatever it is you celebrate!(Btw, I didn't realize Kwanzaa was spelled with a k....lol) -Cheers Mate! Btw,(in Darth Vader voice)"I find your lack of Edit button skills disturbing....", lol :p

Btw,(in Darth Vader voice)"I find your lack of Edit button skills disturbing....", lol :p
Hahahaha, thanks. I worked A LOT on the pod today, I nearly have the body done. As long as I have support I'll keep going. I've tried parenting and all attempts have failed. I'm really good at welding everything and nocolliding it, I need no parenting or smart constraint (although parenting would be useful if duplicator would register it correctly). It makes the parented entity have no momentum and nonresponsive to gravity, also no collides with everything in the world. It sucks, but it'll have to do without it. I'll take some screenshots on Christmas as a little present for you guys. I think that V2 will be my last version, however. The pod is starting to feel more like a burden than fun to make. I make so much other crap that I don't upload though, and that is what's fun to me. Really guys, stop by my server. My buds and I make all these war machines and NPC wars and its fricken crazy. I also pray that Sakarias will continue with the ODST pod, the problem is he can't get the model that easily (he got his godly air vehicles from the military pack). He could easily make a Halo 2 one, but we all want Halo 3 ODST, don't we? I feel like I'm writing a novel here, so I think this is enough on this post lol. Server: Warzone (*WINTER* *ODST* or *SPACE*) Password: odst Maps: gm_ultimateflatgrass, gm_freepsace06v2-1, gm_flatgrass, sb_gooniverse If you join and the server doesn't respond, it means it crashed. Just wait about 2-3 minutes for it to reset.
Is this thing ever gonna get finished
Is this thing ever gonna get finished
Hey, This is some advanced shit. Good contraptions like this takes weeks to finish.
Really? You're just damn slow. Modelling should max take a day of gmodding (A few hours). Wiring it up ranges from 70-100% of the time it took to build it.

Wiring it up ranges from 70-100% of the time it took to build it.
Alright, now wait a second. You build the pod yourself if your going to be trolling me. You take about 30 PHX props, nocollide every single one to another, weld every single one, add all the special effects, wire all the screens, make sure the pod doesn't lag, make sure it's shape is perfect, make a blast off hatch that is an exact replica with the opening doors on the side, make sure the pod doesn't bounce back on impact, take photos of it and present them to downloaders, take videos of the pod to present them, upload it to garrysmod.org, and tell me how it goes. Or, if you can, do your modelling in a day and script the whole pod and release it if your such a good coder. Please, save the 5 year old comments for another thread. Good news. A few of my clan members might port the pod from Halo 2 and make it into a drivable vehicle for Garry's Mod. It's uncertain that it will work but they are doing it, and it shouldn't take long for them. [editline]02:01PM[/editline]
Is this thing ever gonna get finished
Be patient you guys, the pod's gonna be finished. You can't expect me to finish it in a day, you must remember that building a pod the whole day is boring and I might only spend an hour on it a day, but I will say that I have most of the body done, and all I need is to wire the doors and screens, and then give the body a bit more strengthening. Plus I got some new games, but I beat em all already :P. But I'll be playing gmod more often considering my Halo clan just moved to gmod, so yeah, I'll get some MAJOR help on the pod from some great builders. Patience guys, patience. (sorry I sound like Qui-Gon Jin)
im actually coding the odst pod sent right now. i dont have the real odst pod model so i used a modified version of the halo 2 pod model. you can't download it yet but when i feel that it is ready for a wip thread i'll make one. back on topic: great job, especially since it looks good and it is prop based.

You know, Modelling doesn't just mean making shit in a 3d program. You can do a clay model. Draw a model. Cut out a model. Don't be an idiot. Edit: Rated you box.

The clan has all our vehicles planned out, and the pod will be from Halo 2. We also have model creators, so there might be a Halo 3 ODST sent in the future. I'm probably going to stop working on the duplicated version, I find myself not working on it and it just being a burdon, lol. But this is the deal, if my clan doesn't end up making the Halo 2 sent / Halo 3 sent, I'll continue the dupe. Likely they will make them to perfection. So no worries. Also, for more good news, our clan is also planning on making Halo 2/3/ODST sweps. The silenced SMG, battle rifle, all of the weapons you can't ever seem to find (and if there are, we'll make 'em better lol). One of the guys was thinking of making different variations of the guns, like giving them different attachments, size, color, etc. These guys did all sorts of shit for Halo CE, and most likely they will port some awesome models they made for that. Maybe even some Halo 3 Armor models (hayabusa, EVA, EOD, etc.). Also, the SM (our clan)'s dedicated server is up, and can host for 30 players with awesome ping.
Yeah Me thinks that the gamemode will never get done cuz NO 1 can luacodes
Yeah Me thinks that the gamemode will never get done cuz NO 1 can luacodes
Well an ODST gamemode shouldn't be hard to make. It could basically just be a map and a couple hud mods and weapons added and etc. Some people suggested that you start in a ship and you drop down and fight, which would be easy to make. I myself thought that the gamemode 'Firefight' in gmod would be utterly (cow) awesome, and harder to make too. Also, SM has 2 more projects coming up besides the ODST Pod entity. #1 is still iffy, but we plan on making a fighting series between different characters from video games and movies, most likely an 8 episode deal. #2 is making a ghillie suits pack, because I can't find any good ghillie suits for gmod and I do a lot of noob hunting. They'll be ported from MW2 and released for player models and ragdolls when we're done. So there's a lot planned for anyone who still reads this forum (basically no one lol).
im still here(though i wish there was more progress)
