Oh god, don't start an argument about lore in my thread too.
Huh? It's got nothing to do with any lore. It's just a picture. Thanks for bringing that in here though, as if people hadn't been whining enough about it.

shhh...
The pic is nice, but the atmosphere is not STALKERish.

Define the atmosphere in Stalker.
If it doesn't include desolate you haven't catched it.
I'm not really impressed by the editing on this one, its not really up to your standards, the scenebuild is great though. The picture looks pretty low-quality in some places (could be the screenshot, just saying) and something bugs me about the shading, also you should've smoothed that horrible ingame-dof a little, looks jagged in some places.
Yea, that's what I was going for.
If anything, I feel like I should have made the hills even shorter, and give it even more sky. With a little more blue through the white to break it up.
Lots of sky might give the impression of openness - a subconscious implication of freedom. Having the picture look like it is entirely surrounded by foreboding forest or impassible mountain makes The Zone seem expansive and empty, but also entrapping and inescapable.
Might have looked aesthetically pleasing, yes, but you may have lost one of the visual metaphors of the picture if you were to include more sky.

Tbh I think it's just the jpeg quality that makes this picture look ugly. I reckon the lighting is just on-par with Vman's usual work. In all honesty Vman's forte was never shading, but rather explosions. I prefer this well though-out piece in terms of build and composition to a Michael Bay fiasco.
Wonderful job, Vman.
theres a blood sucker behind him
The Gas mask lens kins looked like the Black Mesa symbol when I first looked at it.

Yea, this was actually an extraordinarily quick edit. Finished it in a couple of hours. If I had spent more time I could have probably worked up more of the problem areas.
awesome atmosphere, the editing looks great
great scenebuild, imho it would be much better without bloom effect, I don't think that forest should look so bright. Try to make another atmosphere.
Caste liked my scenebuilding :swoon:
