really, it's truly aggrevating that all these features and more (feedback type throttle controls, etc.) I've worked on over various chips, and now I'm told I gotta abandon them. :saddowns: I'm aggrevated enough that ACF things have to be added on server, when I do most of my building offline (On an empty server, on agood day, I get a ping of 200 minimum on toshkent. With people there, I get 400 or 500--unplayable. And I live reasonably close to the server's location). this just adds something else.
god
ACF tank rules are incredibly simple.
- No autotargetting (more specifically, you cannot hold or track entities you do not own through e2 or other means. This includes target finders, entity discovery, or rangers to "tag" a target. No amount of careful balancing or "strategic weakpoint" stupidity will make this fair in any gamemode.)
- has to pass the hoverball test (It must move via rotational motion of the wheels. This prevents truly absurd setups where tanks can climb walls, or can move even when it has had it's wheels blown off, or setups where you applyforce downwards to give it more grip.)
- has to be the specific tonnage that you're fighting someone with. (People can agree to fight different classes, it's up to you. However, the specific tonnage limit prevents a lot of fuckery that you could run into)
Nothing else. Really damn simple. You parent the armor to a chip on your tank, you make a simple aiming setup for your gun, and you go. Some of the finnicky bits are up to you to deal with, but for the most part, building tanks comes down to the design, not how you drive it or aim your gun (though that can make the difference in some cases).
Not seeing where your complaints are coming from, Mr. Reaper.
As for the engines, kaf's trying to design them so you just do a rope between the wheel and the engine, and it turns the wheels directly, instead of the crankshaft. As it turns out, an incredibly lightweight prop will not transfer enough torque because source physics. Instead he's doing a streamlined version of applytorque that'll work on any given wheel with the engine model.
Not that it matters, you can do the same damn thing with e2, and it's dead simple to do so. Ignoring wheel power basically admits that your tank has no actual limits to it's movement when it's had most of it's shit blown off. As such, it nerfs HE quite a bit when people use applyforce to move their vehicles.
Sestze...it was a misunderstanding on something. It's since been cleared up elsewhere.
I'm not going to hit you, I was just clarifying what the rules for ACF are, and how simple they are.
It is difficult to build for ACF, but not to build tanks. Not sure why people have issues making shit move by rotating wheels. Once you open the pandora's box of applyforce/thrusters for lateral movement, shit gets wonky really fast.

ApplyAngForce + some sturdy wheels + some 2 lines of code = tank
ApplyAngForce + some sturdy wheels + some 200 lines of badly written code = red's tank

:smith:
Yeah but your 200 lines of sloppy code ends up with a much better performing tank than mine
So are we actually going to be doing this? Note that if we're using any server-exclusive tech then I'm probably out, 150ms on an American server no ty, especially for combat where it'll rise to 300 or so
:,( makes me want to start building again but my graphics card is shit now and I cant even play any of my games. Thanks for the credit in the video it means a lot.
Makes me feel so old now that all the beasts I made back in my mad tank days have passed onto the other side before this video was made
Like my JagdPanther

Or the Sherman

Glad to see that there are still some brilliant tank builders about and I may just have to build one or two more now :D
Dear christ I remember those
welcome back :patriot:
They didn't even fucking function

I aint even mad.
They didn't even fucking function
The sherman didnt function, but then as you can see from the bottom of the picture, that was down to GMod 9 having one of its infamous menu bugs where all the writing goes.
The Jagdpanther though was functional, its was drivable, have an elevating gun and even an interior
I'd like to see RTC revived, and judging by the poll, pretty much everyone does (i'm ignoring those who voted every fucking choice).
Dat Hunting Panther, still looks good.
I'm really hoping someone can come up with a good way to do tracks. I'm trying to do 'em with E2, but I'm just not good at coding and stuff like that, I was always better at linkages, cams, pistons, etc. :saddowns:
[editline]Fucked yo mom[/editline]
actually, "better" is relative...I always sucked at this shit...:saddowns:
1000 intersecting wheels, 500 per side
it's more laggy than having 5 or 6 per side, but screw it it looks like tracks
