I also went into a similar direction.
I do 2D and 3D art as a hobby and as a professional in the games industry as a freelancer.
That's mainly why I "left"... I just had to shift priorities.
I just became inactive but I never forgot my roots, I still pose in gmod from time to time, do source engine content or help out the machinima guys.

So far, I did trailers, consulting and gameplaytesting for several minor developers (mostly for ipad games, nothing too big but good money)

Then I worked on a super secret project for an international known german car manufacturer.
Sadly I can't put anything I have made in this project in my portfolio nor am I really allowed to talk about it.
I did some of the 2D assets for the game.
Later on, I worked on a simulator for a hydraulics manufacturer... they do rescue equiptment for firefighters and they wanted a little game to reach the masses.
I was the lead artist and overall the representant from the art side to the client and had to do the communication with the programmers one state away from me.
Sadly, the programming department was stubborn, old fashioned and not to reason with. They did the game in silverlight... yup, silverlight.
However, due to my professional handling of the situation, I took over the project and will work in 2013 with some other freelancers on a Unity 3D version of that game.
It's available to play online but it's embarrassing, the programmers even fucked with my graphics and did the horrible sounddesign.

Right now I work for a recently established out of some really well known industry veterans on a browsergame doing the 3D and 2D assets for the game.
Also inbetween I do some conceptual work in close communication with the programmers and the gamedesigner.
Again... pretty secret stuff but I do think, it will turn out very well.
Oh yeah, and I just started last year. So there is a lot more coming!
In between, I practise my 3D and 2D skills, have some good contacts to the AAA industry, attend to different industry conferences and
work on other projects (without earning a dime) like the Zeitgeist mod, carlRP or help with machinima.

I don't know what the future brings... I already got a bunch of job offers... but I want to stay a freelancer for a while longer to get some more experience.
Also I gotta put all my work into an online portfolio when I find some time.
That's awesome shit man. Makes me wish I would have gotten more into 3d modelling and texturing. For me it will always just be a little hobby of mine.

I've tried pushing him aside before,I tried accepting his amends before,but the main thing about it is that he keeps repeating the same cycle of being nice for a month then being a stump legged lamppost lorax eater.
I've wrote a couple big sentences of why I've hated jacknife before and some still think I'm just trying to get attention,trying to start drama,holding a grudge, ect ect.
I've known Jacknife for 2 years now and some people still think he's changed or can change and feel sorry for him because he's really hated for that. Now this is straight up my raw opinion, no bandwagoning or biasing and mainly from memory, There is a reason for this, Back when I was a newer guy here there was a member named Dale uk. Dale wasn't very liked and didn't have a very good skin, because I was new and also disliked I would often try and stick up for him because we were both in the hole. One day Dale made a new skin but it had obvious stolen textures he was shunned and kicked out from personal skin and Dale ultimately permabanned himself this was in 2010.
A month or so later there was a new member named jacknife because I enjoyed getting new member I greeted him of coarse but later members discovered that he was in fact dale and of coarse there was some upset but Lebowski told him to stay away from the thread for 1 month to prove he can improve.
somewhere along the line I later friended him and started talking to him yes at a point we used to be freinds-ish I found him related able to at the time because we were both trying to get out of the hole.
of coarse over this span of time of late 2010 to 2011 I slowly noticed Jack having and aggressive and asshole like attitude but I shrugged it of for the first few months.
This started to get worse and worse over time when he would show me a new skin and If I told him he has to many he would make an insulting remark and tell me of the irony, "at the time I kept changing skins a lot" but I just went with it because I was actually concerned if I called him out on it he'd get people to turn on me. After another month of this I finally spoke up and told him what a bad friend he was and he soon apologized for it.
The same attitude started again after Some members and I told him his skin looked like a copy of lebowkski.
I got tired of his shit and removed him but a few days later he send me a message apologizing to me again and like a fool I accepted it thinking he can change.
Later the year of 2011 I made friends with a guy named tailsdoll in the sonic model thread whom I became close friends with, but Jacknife would pop into the thread and give tailsdoll the same kind of attitude he still gave me.
He would even talk shit about him right to me and ask me why I'm friends with the guy
.Jacknife began making a signature pose which he copied off of Frost which was his skin standing perfectly still but holding one hand out to the screen ,A few perkinners and I thought it be humorous to mimic his signature pose which he became upset at me for this .In personal skins thread we got some new members ,Ninjanub and Justin Xs, pretty much right off the bat Ninjanub and Jacknife became good friends but I noticed some conflict between him and Justin. Jacknife wasn't just a dick to me he was to Tailsdoll, Justin as too calling his facemap shitty and getting mad when I pointed out his looked like rusty, Getting mad at The_Gobo and telling him to leave,being a dick to hunterspy.
Jacknife Yet again apologized to me and some others for this but went back to his same old ways.
2012 Because of His new facemap looking so much like rusty I thought it would be funny to make a facemap that looked like one of his but instead I used one of his with the permission of rusty. I made a pose with this skin

Even though I had Rusty's permission He got mad at me for stealing his facemap and even argues to rusty himself that it was made for him and even made fun of me, When someone told him he was being mean and said That I don't make fun of his addiction of playing dress up he said "no your just describing minimole" He left that same day with another apology making himself look like a victim and yet came back the same day stating "just because I left the thread doesn't mean I can't read it." He ultimately told Kali to fuck off.
The past months after this he started insulting my posing skills and even told me that I should get a skin and stick with it "at the time I had Jenkins N7 hoodie" As a reply I made this

As his reply he insulted me even more telling me my skin is shit and my posing was bad.
Jacknife even called me out in groupchat calling me "a fucking beaner" and making jokes about me needing a greencard because of my mexican looking appearance and when I commented about his skin which at the time was Jacknife from Mirrors edge recolored he made fun of my skinning again.
Jacknife later apologized for this and like a fool I yet again believed him.
I started noticing Jacknife was making generic poses of him standing with lense flair I thought it would be humorous to make parodies of these.
