I have a deep seeded hatred for private models. Not much else makes me enraged as much as this.
Maybe it's due to my time in the Half-Life2 beta community and how they'd hoard loads of content to only have it all vanish forever due to a harddrive crash or some shit. Then the rest of the people who have it are assholes and won't share.
I mean here in the perskin thread it's different, it's not like you have a chunk of history that you're keeping away from everyone except you and your friends.
It is instead a major inconvenience. I remember when Minilandstan's skin was private and the only one you could get from the OP was the not-argonian one. I remember people even flat out refusing to give me the model for whatever reason. It sucked.
Private content is dumb, selfish, inconvenient, mean, and I hate the very idea with every fiber of my being.
Perskins should be available to anyone who wants to use them.
If some fuck head wants to claim them as his own, then he's an idiot and we should let him know just how stupid he is.
But if some random shmuck uses one or two in his crappy gmod poses and gives us credit in some form, then so what? He's not hurting anyone.
I keep the extended version of my skin private because I don't want to force a 20mb download full of uncompressed textures on people who just want one model.
