it's not so much the editing as it is the image itself. there's a load of empty space at the top and left of the image, I can't really tell what's going on because it just looks like a bunch of people standing around in a dark room, and it's just generally bizarre and yet strangely boring. what is meant to be happening?

I don't know. I just quickly did this without any thinking, which was stupid of me. I don't really have any experience in scenebuilding either. Thanks for the advice though....
