And in the first picture, she looks like shes floating. The facial expressions are also overly exaggerated. It makes them look more happy than shocked.

First USE SUPER DOF, you're not going to be able to make anything amazing without it, unless you use no blur at all. Second, make sure your graphics are as high as physically possible. Prioritize antialisasing, texture quality, and dynamic lighting. Get everything locked in before turning them up and use a static camera so moving around with a low framerate isn't as much of an issue. Posing is awkward but I've seen worse, faceposing looks good. Practice, practice, and super DOF.

Resized the image so that it wont be too large.[/QUOTE] Another tip for you, when you're focusing, set the blur size to maximum, focus (it's much much more accurate this way), then lower the blur size again. Still, an okay first start. You just seem to have focused on his leg instead of his face. It takes practice (I have literally spent about a half hour just getting the right focus before) but you're on your way, keep at it.
