Neither is better than the other. At the end of the day, both are soldiers that carry bladed weapons, wear lots of armour, and fight with assorted other soldiers that carry other weapons (pikes and bows, early guns) Both have distinct (even more so with Knights, which can come from basically anywhere in europe, whereas Samurai are specifically Japanese) differences in their background, culture, training, code of honour, etc but in the end, they are armoured soldiers wielding bladed weapons to deadly effect against their enemies, while being armoured sufficiently to duel the enemy's equivalent forces
Inferior training, armour and sword on the eastern side. Yeah totally :)
Ok ok. I'll admit the Samurai did not have the armour that knights had (due to almost no metal in japan until they figured out there was some in the mountains). BUT I AM CALLING YOU OUT ON SWORD AND TRAINING! Western swords were pumped out at hundreds a day. A few bangs on and anvil and cooling then they were done. Since Japan didn't have the metals to pump out swords like that they had to take time and care for the forging of each sword. The way the katanas were made was specifically to split it's target, while western swords were meant to cleave. Katanas could glide through their target without dulling the blade, whereas western swords, due to the shape of their blades edge, met resistance which would dull the blade. And for training they are pretty much equal. Both had the elites that were trained from their childhood and both had the untrained men given a sword and armour.
Until the knights show up with muskets and are all "fuck swords"
hint: those are reenactors of Muromachi Ashigaru
Silly me, and here I was thinking it was a rare picture from the year 1330. Also, seeing the sashimonos they are carrying. I'd say it's an re-enacting of the Sekagahara battle. Which was in the early 1600. Meaning Edo era, not Muromachi.

They still lose to european blades in terms of strength and durability. (skip to 5:45 to see the proper action) I could go on about training as well, but I've no reason to continue this debate. That reason being that whatever swords both warriors had, the sword was usually not used as much as people like to think, with polearms and especially blunt weapons being more used in Europe due to your enemy having armor that makes sharp weapons less effective. [sub][sub]oh yeah, here's also a thing: Knights had SHIELDS, samurai didn't.[/sub][/sub]
Samurai > Knight
They both suck. The Aztecs have the best shit.
Up until the Conquistadors and time fragged them
Samurai are p.cool
Knights however had the ability of flight Air superiority over fancy bendy butterknives and hats
Ninja's are superior over both
Easily the best:
Pssh. please. they ain't need no pansy ass augmentations or power armour, just a lasgun.
"Throw warm bodies at the problem, that'll work!!" Except the part where the only time the imp guard wins battles is when they have armor support. Personally its all about tzeentch nothing like 4+invulnerable saves on regular troops.
Nuff' said. [sub][sub]oh yeah, here's also a thing: Knights had SHIELDS, samurai didn't.[/sub][/sub]
Actually it's more of a matter of perspective: Katanas were only a pound or two lighter then most European swords, they were like two-handed swords, but not as powerful as a claymore. Knight armor is not as heavy as Hollywood says, if it was they wouldn't have used it. It was almost immune to slashing, and if it would be curved, it would be hard to stab too. Samurai armor also usually consisted of metal, it wasn't as heavy but it was metal armor. Samurais were better with bows than swords really, being the masters of horse and bows. Knights had shield and sword training, samurai did not and had little experience fighting shielded opponents. They both had martial arts training, and side arm like daggers. Both trained from youth, and both had a system of nobility/honour.
