Interesting. My first and last name = Good Record. My first name alone = Puberty. Dono = Irony. Note: Capital Letters have an impact on the outcome. For example: Milo = maid. MILO = Nude.
Ok ok. I'll admit the Samurai did not have the armour that knights had (due to almost no metal in japan until they figured out there was some in the mountains). BUT I AM CALLING YOU OUT ON SWORD AND TRAINING! Western swords were pumped out at hundreds a day. A few bangs on and anvil and cooling then they were done. Since Japan didn't have the metals to pump out swords like that they had to take time and care for the forging of each sword. The way the katanas were made was specifically to split it's target, while western swords were meant to cleave. Katanas could glide through their target without dulling the blade, whereas western swords, due to the shape of their blades edge, met resistance which would dull the blade. And for training they are pretty much equal. Both had the elites that were trained from their childhood and both had the untrained men given a sword and armour.
You need to remember a few important things. Firstly that the longsword on average is longer while being just as heavy, is made from far better steel, bas a crossguard and hilt that actually allows for a modicum of fencing has a functional point and two bladed sides. You also need to realise that knigthly swords were far more expensive than a number of cheaper mass made ones. And even those tended to be well made. As to Japanese metal folding techniques. You do know that they have existed in Europe and the middle east for far longer. Not toention it was the knights primary weapon. The katana is shorter, is a desigj not unknown in Europe (sabers follow a similar doctrine), tended to shatter quite often. Allows for virtually no fencing and was not the samurai's primary weapon. That would the spear and bow. And as a rule samurai often started their training later than a knight, considering they were more often small land administers compared to later knights who were often more akin to professional soldiers. Both were warriors of course, but claiming a samurai's equipment was even comparable to a knight would be a folly. And I now went horribly off topic:(

That discussion is way over
Samurais look cool and thats why they're so popular.
Why are you bringing it up again? That discussion is way over
I like to argue.;)
Why are you bringing it up again? That discussion is way over
because knights are awesome and samurais are hella lame and overrated
