the hate comes from taking a cheesy lovable character from a cheesy over the top series and making him serious brooding and an asshole in an entry that takes itself way too seriously
also, people got over the hair thing pretty fast. the DmC hate comes from the overly simplified gameplay, REALLY poor writing, and pretentiousness of ninja theory and tameem
