(I choose the largest map I could find, GM_infinitive)
When I spawn props on that map, Gmod Crashes.
lol, a thread. -This is retarded you can't go speed of light or freakin lightning in garry's mod. -Hunta, wtf stop using your dumb ass equation shit like a poop-slinger to Americans <I cut the reason out cause it involved violence and fatuously 'important' people who weren't American> -Foxton.. yeah European cars sit the driver on the right side, but you're right they still suck balls =D >Now please stop slap boxing other peoples' countries. *cough*even if they do have screwed up teeth and a de facto constitution*cough* \\I love you SilverHammer <=D//
who are you
I was the second gunman on the grassy knoll. You know, rj
Actually, no. In the UK, where we drive on the correct side of the road, the driver sits on the right. Unless you're in a US car, which are all ass-backwards anyway. It would appear that you don't know what you're talking about.
why do drivers sit on the right? So that their basis eye on the road is more centered down the middle? Or is it because it lets them wack off while they drive?
I just started this to find out what the fasted vehicle anyone had made was (preferably with some measurement of velocity associated with it. And instructions on how to go faster.) Not a flame war on units of measure. Or what arbitrary side of the road one drives on. If I wanted I could have stated everything source units. Which would be more proper than metric OR imperial. But it would be harder to understand in daily life. If you have a physics mod you can easily surpass the speed of sound in air (yes it does very by density, and density varies by temperature so stating an exact speed of sound in air is somewhat pointless as it's constantly changing with temperature, I took mine off rough memory, the physics achievement I have lists the speed of sound [non definitively] 770mph or 1232kph or 18069.33 source units per second.) I just measured the maximum distance of gm_infinitive (it's largest map size possible I believe.) I found that it was 52993.7 source units (su) from upper north west corner to lower south east corner. And given all the junk on units of measure (which is all pointless as the game uses neither metric nor imperial and I shouldn't have stated anything in those units as both are estimated and meaningless in GM.) I converted the speed of light to GM units and it's 4,364,800 source units per second (sups). So to travel the speed of light you must cover the maximum distance of the largest map 82.4 times every SECOND. I did some calculations and found to my shock that light speed is possible if: 1) you increased the game frequency to 100hz or above (as it would be I think with single player.) AND: 2) were able to teleport from one corner to another of the cubic volume of gm_infinitive every game tick such that you made 100 jumps of 52,990su per second. And finally: 3) if all that jumping were added up into a single measurement of velocity such that the game detected your total change of position in 1 second was equal or greater than to 4,364,800sups (the speed of light in source units per second.) Then: You should get the achievement for breaking the speed of light in garrysmod. When I testing I had 3 problems, 1) my method of teleporting wasn't letting me jump far enough even though I could do it every game tick. 2) my game frequency was 66.7 and thus wasn't fast enough to allow me to make the necessary number of jumps per second to hit light speed. And 3) the secondary method I was using to choose coordinates to jump to didn't cause me to jump the furthest I could nor give consistent distances, so my velocity was flying wildly between 3 and 5 digit numbers. If I fixed all 3 of those I bet I could do it. Maybe without my physics mod even. But I'm not sure about that one.
I'm sorry, first I was all like wuhhhht?, and then I was like huhhhh?, then.. I got lost and gave up and had an iced tea.
Reading what I said? If so the short answer is: after calculating it, I found it's possible to break lightspeed. It's just hard.
tl;dr, shits too fast to be done.
shut up, valve is an american company, if you don't like it, tell crytek to make garrysmod, and then run around with your metric bullshit. 50 cal sounds so much better than your shit. 9 millimeter? what is that shit dog, guess what us americans call it? A mofucking pistol. Up your join douchebag. Miles are cooler. Fucking look at David Miles. Yards are cool too. I measure my dick in yards. Feet are awesome, with out it, thered be no 5 dollar foot long, just some shitty 5 dollar centimeter bullshit. To sum things up, shut the fuck up. [editline]10:03PM[/editline] WE DRIVE ON THE RIGHT Side of the road, beacause passengers get out on the right, safer for them. In fucking UK The driver gets out first, presumably the male, and lets the female get out on the dangerous side, possibly dying in an accident. Once again we fucking prevail, and you don't know the fuck you're talking about.
None of that made sense... and for god's sake I'm not english. You do drive on the wrong side of the road relative to the majority of the world and finally your units are fucking stupid with no real basis... I mean look a farenheit 100 is supposed 2 be human body temp that is how it was first made but it bloody well isn't. Metric is based on constants and is the international unit of science so get used 2 it
I have broken the speed of LIGHTNING! I had to go into singleplayer because I wasn't able to teleport in just 1 tick, there was at least 1 tick I where I could see the map below me moving so I may have gone across the map in 2 ticks or something. So I've gone beyond 3,050,666.66sups So I know it's possible to break the speed of lightning. I can see my velocity is exceeding 280,000mph (the best I can tell from the flashing numbers, 6 digits with 28 at the front) or 6,570,666sups. Also correction: 28,577,413.168sups Ok, THAT's the speed of light or the one listed that I must reach to get the achievement. Which means I must traverse at least 285,775su per game tick and do it 100 times per second... Now that I'm not sure is possible, but I'll keep trying since being inside the may not be a required aspect of this.

I've racked up a new fastest speed today: 697,376mph. I'm around 2.4% of light speed. I think I'm just confusing people by converting to source units per second. I need to know how many ticks it takes to actually arrive at the crazy distances I'm sending myself, cause there seems to be a velocity to teleportation it's not perfectly instantaneous. I'm going to see if I can get close to the edge of the server's tolerance for objects to out in the void. I also reprogrammed it to teleport me home once I exit my chair so I'm not lost out in the void. Oh! The method I'm using allows for fantastical speeds without any physics moding, but you do need a pair of different teleportation functions for Expression 2 chips. I think I've gone well into multiples of the speed of lightning. And at only a dismal 2% light and I'm running out of room to jump. I also found that singleplayer runs at 100hz, probably why it's the limit for multiplayer as well.
teleporting != speed
teleporting != speed
The molecules have to move somehow...
you mean pixels
i made a plane hat went so fast when i hit one of the invisible walls the plane went threw it but i diec
That's impossible, because they are WALLS that you cannot go outside without noclip, or: A) your wehicle was No-Collide: Worlded on every part B) you were noclipping whilst sitting down C) Your plane was incredibly heavy and used hoverballs to make it stay in they air, because to go that fast with thrusters, they must be incredibly heavy I don't think you did that, because not many people have the No-Collide World tool and know how to no-coillide with world (AKA no-clipping) whilst sitting down. Also, I am not english, though I'm saying whilst. It's dun to say, try it somethime. Whilst.
The molecules have to move somehow...
we are talking about a game engine, it isn't moving even theoretical teleportation isn't a speed, it is simply the creation of such a large gravitational field that space time instead of being 'dented' it forms a funnel and bends to another location, which technically isn't the object moving speed and movement is relative to a frame of reference, but that isn't relevant because this is a game engine...
I did a jeep with a shitload of thruster. Don't know at what speed i was, but i just exploded my head on a wall, insta died.
When I make a really fast vehicle then accidentally hit the edge of flatgrass and dienuggets, I spawn a chair and a black hole ent and throw a white hole (the other end of wormhole) to where the vehicle is and teleport there cause im lazy.. does that count?
I did a jeep with a shitload of thruster. Don't know at what speed i was, but i just exploded my head on a wall, insta died.
do you have bailout? that may be what did it
Bailout does that. Very annoying sometimes.
Guys, I got to 270,000 MPH with air density on 0, jinto speed phyeics to really high limit and a chair that was no-collided with the world. Going down it got faster and faster.
That's impossible, because they are WALLS that you cannot go outside without noclip
umm... that depends on whether source uses continuous or discrete collision. if discrete, it should be possible to move past the bounds of the map in one tick, before the game registers that you've collided with them.
I made a train once. I wasn't really going for speed but I made it go 200mph on straights and 75 on turns. It had rave lights :3
Rave lights are shitty. Fucking tacky.
remind me: what's the speed of sound? if it's lower than lightning it might be doable. alos clever system, slowed down it might have some applications in spacebuild.
I think the speed of sound is only about 650 MPH at sea level, I'll have to look it up
I think the speed of sound is only about 650 MPH at sea level, I'll have to look it up
just to say, it has already been posted - 330 m/s hence the rule with thunder and lighting, every 3 seconds the thunder lags the lightning, it is += ~1km away
Didn't we have a science forum for this kind of stuff? I think that the majority of facepunch has built their fastest vehicle with a random prop, four wheels and a shitload of thrusters that were set to the highest settings possible.
